He's played less than 30 games and he will learn, and he isn't Robinson Crusoe in doing this.

Garlett and Bernie are best 22 in fact best dozen so they both have to come in no ifs or buts unless Garlett requires another week. Maric will go it alone against Big Max so do we need both Pedersen and Frost, which I believe will be one of the unlucky omissions. I think Oliver would have been given a rest if it was a 6 day turnaround but I think he may get another game under his belt and a rest the following week against the Saints. Brayshaw, Matt Jones and Hunt will be one of the other unlucky omissions. Petracca may be a chance but trying to find a likely out is something that after many long years is finally difficult

He is reliable and steady, part of a defence which is building nicely and does not require to much change at the moment

Lets not get ahead of ourselves we are still yet to prove we can win 2 in a row. We have achieved nothing

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 4
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6.Viney 5. Watts 4. Nate Jones 3.Gawn 2.Lumumba 1. Tyson this was difficult and it's something we are not used to having to think about a best 3 let alone a best 6, Bugg, Tmac, Wagner and Frost are all unlucky and with Bernie & Garlett to come back in and Petracca and Nibbler staking their claims we are finally becoming a footy side -
He also dropped During NAB score around the grounds this season on February 27th Port 20 odd points to Melbourne 1 point - LANGDON - well Melbourne doing their usual they are just no good Melbourne wont win 5 games this season Judd wont leave West Coast because they are one of the best at retaining players and don't lose ones they want to keep I believe David Mundy has gone because every player who puts off contract talks has moved at the end of the season Summing up my belief that if you thrown enough darts, you will hit the target at some stage. And my mail on the contract situation from a decent source the waiting till the end of the season is absolutely honest, Jesse is backing himself in to increase his net value and nobody even close friends know what the outcome will be.

When does Petracca get unleashed?
Pennant St Dee replied to The Sailing Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did you read the Casey game day thread it was in there, posted by bj Dee during the match I'm sure Ethan will accept your apology Posted Saturday at 7:28 PM · Report post Talk about a lippy Petracca! Lining up for goal and a 150kg Franky supporter yells out "out of bounds d**ckhead" Trac kicks it and turns straight around to the crowd and yells "what was that mate?" Brave. Or a little unwise. -

I watched on Saturday and saw him trudging around just genuinely frustrated with himself and everything which didn't go his way. His body language was poor and it was as if he was feeling sorry for himself that nothing was going his way. IMO he needs to be played further up the ground to get a more of a free run and whilst it may rob us of a FF it will bring our greatest weapon into the game. Whilst I was frustrated on Saturday watching myself I think he may be feeling pressure for the first time in his young life, there was no need for him to enter into any sort of to and from comments with the Ox, he is having a lot more work put into him by opposition, Dawes as bad as he can be always provided greater forward pressure and would at least prevent defenders peeling off, he is under massive media scrutiny for his performance and his contract status and probably for the first time in his young life he is being challenged mentally. Taking all this into account and his age gives me reason to cut him some slack, I am sure the FD is aware of this and working with him to address everything both on and off the field.

Outs: Kent first one out and whilst he has the leg speed we crave, he doesn't gut run and lacks the ability or want to bring himself into the game, he needs at least 2 weeks to a month in the VFL to find desire and the application required on a permanent basis to be an AFL player Brayshaw - looked underdone and I think Oliver may have been emotionally spent from the media attention last week, so would give him a light week on the track Harmes - not like the rest he has the work ethic but had a shocker although he wasn't Robinson Crusoe Pedersen - wasn't our worst and I see merit with him to give big Max a chop out against Goldy, but we look top heavy and slow, so Frost comes in for him Ins Dunn - needs to come back in experienced big bodied defender must in against Norf Frost - needed to assist with the forward structure, give ANB - smart footballer and a good decision maker which we need more and more of Stretch - need his run from the wing B: Jetta Dunn Garland HB:Salem Tmac Lumumba C: Stretch Oliver Vince HF: Watts Frost Kennedy F: Garlett Hogan ANB R: Gawn, Jones, Viney I/C:Bugg, Tyson, Vanders & M, Jones Lumumba is lucky to stay in as his turnovers and ability to run into trouble killed us, Bugg and M Jones need defensive forward roles and run with roles on Harvey/Atley split between them, Wells is the one I struggle to find a match up for

Agree with this because it wasn't like Bombers stayed close and just got a run on late, they were switched on from the get go and it was plainly obvious they were up for the fight. Any sportsperson understands the need to give 100% to get the job done today. Sides like Hawthorn, Sydney and Meth Coast understand that before the bounce but our boys had 4 quarters to address it and failed to despite having momentum on a couple of occasions to take the initiative when they got their noses in front and continue to build momentum In our darkest days we came out against opposition sides playing in a similar way to the Bombers with less talent but more intensity and desire. Whilst we would be in games up to half/3 quarter time the opposition would regroup and overrun us, we had opportunities to do this on Saturday we got in front in the 3rd and 4th quarters but the players at these points thought the job was done and on each occasion failed to put the Dons to the sword and deflate them. We gave them back momentum and allowed them to get their tails up and overrun us to win. I don't want to hear a word out of the playing group this week the usual we are disappointed in our own performance and are going to try and redeem ourselves this week. They need to dig deep this week and for the next series of games North, Pies, Tigers and St Kilda are all winnable and they need to have the mindset of other clubs and do the following things Beat North or at the very least give their best effort and be in the game right up until the final siren Move on from the North game immediately and look to the Pies, should we beat North not start talking about the 2 in a row but just look at going in to beat the Pies Move on to the Tigers to win As above with the Saints and in all of these games no complacency and no being satisfied with yourself due to one decent performance It's all about taking each week at a time and we need to start playing in this manner not saying the right things like we are hoping to beat Essendon this week to win 2 in a row for the first time. I had an idea we were in trouble when I heard this last week from our playing group, it should have been clear that Essendon are a proud club, this is their first home game for the season and we would expect they want to repay the faith of their 50k members who have shown faith in them. We know the Bombers are going to come out firing and we need to be switched on for what they are going to throw at us. Saturday was totally unacceptable and they should be embarrassed with themselves but part of me knows the majority aren't and like Saturday they are expecting their team mates to dig them out of the hole
-
I'll be there and as I have said in another thread haven't forgotten what they did to us in 2013 to the tune of 148 points, James Kelly nodding off as a total lack of respect to the opposition when singing the Cats song after they beat us in 2008/9. Us getting ahead of ourselves and letting them get their tails up last season in NAB and in the season proper. They will be lifted by their first home game of the season, the walk to the G and some of their greats being at the ground. It will last for 15 minutes and we need to be up early and not complacent, right attitude and playing with intent and we should put another big dent in their season and turn it ugly as quick as we can. Come on the new MFC make a statement and win and win well

MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 1, 2016
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
4 letter word Starts with P Ends with E Re watch the round 2 video last year and see why we were smashed after half time -
1) If you're brought up in Perth you know who Carey is especially with the great Jakovich v Carey duels over many years 2) If your family originally hail from Adelaide and you were a Crows fan growing up(as Jesse was) i'd say you know who Carey was Watching footage is one thing, but actually sitting down and talking with greats of the game, getting their insight is entirely different

Condolences to the Couch family. Very sad news and was shocked when i heard this morning makes you think when you realise not much older than myself and out cycling on a Saturday morning RIP #7

I'll be there for this one and by god I hope we win and if/when given the opportunity we put our foot on their throats. That 2013 game of 148 points must burn those who played that night as much as it does me. James Kelly arrogantly yawning during the song at the end of a loss to the Cats in 08 or 09 is another reason why I want to hurt them bad

Who Are You Most Excited to See Play in 2016
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Been a long time coming with a list this long but take your pick and with apologies to ANB, Brayshaw, Stretch, Vanders and Oliver (How good is it not to expect a 1st year player to be our saviour and shining light and allow them to develop) Salem - think we landed a beauty in him Kent - I think the penny has dropped, he has the tools and the speed to really hurt opposition Petracca - loved what I saw in 2014 Nationals and the pre AFL willingness to knuckle down Trengove - obvious reasons and many forget the footy smarts, discipline to adhere to team structure and ability shown before injury Hogan - 2nd season and has everything Viney - jumped up a class last season expect him to become our number 1 mid by seasons end Tmac - can he make the early season form of 2015 to a consistent and regular occurence Gawn - Has the preseason and miles into the body to go with the ability and the ruck craft he has learnt, could be a big year -
Jesse grew up in Scarborough and is a Marist/Claremont zone boy, certainly wouldn't be heading into Northbridge, with a long list of friends from the Western suburbs. He still keeps in regular contact with a lot of the Claremont and Marist boys and catches up with them whilst he is back in Perth. I know a few of the lads he knocks about with and families he grew up with. In case you hadn't heard they have coffee here, Freo is well known for it. A lot of what I hear does little to concern me as to wanting to return to Perth, but until he signs there is always that doubt, there are some circumstances which concern me but whatever happens, it happens. I don't believe for 1 minute this nonsense he didn't like growing up in Perth. His family no longer lives in Perth but he spends a lot of his off season and in season his breaks back in Perth. He spends that time here, heading out with mates from his childhood. The main reason he would want to stay in melbourne is to stay with the new mates he has formed bonds with and to be part of something with them Jesse and his manager are playing this game perfectly he has 2 more years to run and barring a shocking injury his price will rise and rise. Currently you have Freo being talked about, they wont be throwing the kitchen sink money wise at Macarthy just more than GWS were offering, but don't think for one minute if there is any talk of him wishing to return that Meth Coast wont also be in the race. Josh Kennedy will be 30 next year so hardly commanding massive dollars or a long term contract. We currently have him and since Roos and co came on board we are certainly in the box seat and IMO he is ours to lose, we just need to keep this momentum going and keep heading in the right direction with this young core we have and not rest on our laurels. We will know by early 2017 what Jesse's intentions are

2016 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Pennant St Dee replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
Like the look of Josh Rotham as a second/third round defender. See him as third tall defender and someone who could take over from Dunn in a couple of years. Doesn't have the brain fades and ill discipline and reads the play very well. Powell-Pepper having a few issues and may slide, nothing over the top but not as focused as he has been previously. Ainsworth was impressive last season as an underage player so expect him to be right up there this season. No doubt the two kids out there who shoot up the rankings from nowhere this season. Kid 1: is that kid out there who has grown over the summer and will start to dominate and show enough promise for someone to take the punt Kid 2: the Petracca/Dunstan type who just has that desire to succeed. They will do extra training drop weight and give their all to get the best out of themselves, once these kids hit 18 the attitude starts to show and they become standouts to recruiters. -
Still my greatest memory as a young Dee, it was always a dream to see us play in September and for much of my childhood it was never achievable, I enjoyed seeing us put together good runs of stringing together wins here and there and I remember 1984 when we put a really good run together mid season but by the time September was approaching we had dropped off, apart from that period in my childhood following the Dees there was nothing to really get excited about. Mid 1987 looked like just another year which was our best ever and sure I had the Night Premiership to hang my hat on. I recalled seeing the Bombers win the Night flag around 81 or 82 and I hoped we would in time develop like they did. I still don't know how it happened but as September approached it was just another year for us, we put wins together 2 became 3 and it looked like we were at least finishing the season well and maybe those kids who won the Night Flag were going to develop like the Bombers and be pushing for finals in 1989. 3 wins became 4 and now we were an outside chance, it was unlikely I knew that sure I was a Dees supporter and as a child of the 70's I didn't have the memories of those who were fortunate enough to have been born in my fathers time. So I woke up that Saturday morning expecting a galant effort but as per the norm my Dees would lose and I would again watch the kids who followed the Hawks, Roos, Blues and Bombers ( I know they didn't make it but FMD they were unbearable through those flag years) pumping their chest out through September. As usual on a Saturday me Da did some odd jobs around the house before we headed to local footy in the afternoon and I was listening to the game on radio. Da was a North Fan at the time and in between jobs he popped his head in every now and again to check the scores. Halfway through the third, I remember Da saying well your not far away now son maybe next year. I guess like many of the younger Demonlanders who have lived through the last 10 years the 70's and 80's were very much like that. Dreams never came true for us and I was resigned to missing out again. I grabbed my jacket and headed out with me Da for the drive to a local game, we listened to the game on the car radio as we always did and I still wanted my boys to get over the line desperately even if the Cats were going to ruin my day. All of a sudden it turned and we got on a roll against the Dogs I didn't start to believe but like most kids the win was all that mattered, September was something I wasn't thinking about until they kept crossing to Kardinia for score updates. Like all kids growing up in that time who didn't follow them I hated the Hawks, I wanted the kids who followed them to go through what we had for so long, at that time I wasn't aware of what their supporters had gone through for so long before the 70's and 80's, all i knew was they were the loudest supporters in the schoolyard and I hated them. But now as it was within touching distance, we were kicking away from the Dogs and I was now willing the Hawks to lift there game against the Cats and make my dream come true. My Da even said to me you boys are a chance here and he was now cheering for the Dees. I remember the roar of the crowd which at the time I thought was the final siren and a win for the Dees, but me Da said shhh!"THE HAWKS ARE IN FRONT. Those last few moments went on forever I was fearing the worst, surely it couldn't happen. We listened in silence and when the final score from Geelong came through we both gave an almighty roar. It was and still is my greatest footballing memory, at the time I never understood why my father was so enthusiastic in cheering for a team he didn't follow. Being a father now I fully understand he was sharing my dreams listening to the last quarter. The innocence of a father and son enjoying happiness together, me the sheer joy as a supporter and me Da being able to witness it as a parent. Da forked out some hard earned dollars and we were there for the elimination final which was magical and the rollercoaster kept going on for another 3 weeks. I cried my eyes out when Bucky nailed that kick at Waverley but nothing could dampen that September for me and those moments my father and I shared that Saturday afternoon in the old Kingswood. Thank god 2007 to 2013 is behind us I have memories of the dark days of the early 80's turning to August 1987 and beyond, I remember the shocking years of 96 & 97 turning to the yo-yo's of the late 90's and early noughties and the years of 2004 to 06 which were our chance that we wasted as each September approached. I may be well into my 40's but when our time comes again that crazy 15 year old kid from 1987 will appear again cheering like a lunatic kicking and handballing every possession, spoiling every entry into our defensive half and living every tackle. Go Dees

Trent Croad 1 decent performance for Freo, 2002 vs Dees at Subiaco, Croad bagged 7 and the Wiz kicked the winning goal after the Siren Still shudder thinking back to that game
