Melbourne to ditch Alice Springs game from next year?
monoccular replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I presume that your question is rhetorical. Clearly Gil's primary agenda is to ensure the survival and success of his marquee clubs and the rest can just take it or leave it. There can be no possible excuse for not scheduling a bye for both competing teams following a game in Darwin.....no excuse whatsoever. If I were to meet Peter Jackson I would ask him straight out - "Peter, why have you not demanded a bye (for both clubs) following the Darwin game. If not, why not. If so, what is Gil's response?" As far as Alice is concerned, this should be no greater problem for either club than any other interstate travel. -
Melbourne to ditch Alice Springs game from next year?
monoccular replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the Darwin game is to continue, the AFL must in the interests of both teams and of OH&S schedule it immediately before the bye for both teams. Alice is a different story - not nearly so physically testing or draining. -
Clayton Oliver signs new 2 year deal.

Seraph - I suspect that barring injury, Brayshaw's second season would be as impressive as his first, but of course we will never know. -
Holding the ball / prior opportunity / incorrect disposal
monoccular replied to Bluey's Dad's topic in Melbourne Demons
umps....smarter....than what? Amoeba? Exactly....but imagine the knee jerk reaction from HQ. It will soon become no contact allowed, like AusKick under 8s. Good idea, but I can't see the AFL ever taking that one on. A bit like their "clamp down on staging" a few years ago.....absolutely nothing ever happened. Because leaving the field is mandatory for blood rule, optional for injury. -
And where does the AFL lie in this league table? - pretty high too, though probably little noticed outside Australia in world rankings. I think I recall that there was 'some unease' at Eddie's club when the two 'innocents' who were laced in NZ after ingesting lamb, or perhaps some other substances. But there were only two so the rule was not tested.

Holding the ball / prior opportunity / incorrect disposal

IF the bloody maggots paid the throws the differential would be the other way Of course they love the theatre of it all and do like being the center of attention I generally don't like seeing players injured, but really guys like this are dicing with death or at least serious injury, and their dangerous antics should not be encouraged by the authorities. Eventually one will get the injury they deserve In fact actively discouraging these antics, and my other pet hate, driving headlong head down into an opponent, is in the interests of all players. They should be penalized every time ... would soon stop. -
Well Jake has only had a couple of games this year - when he gets a few more under his belt then maybe, especially if he does a bit of marking and scoring at Casey.
-
I understood, from other cases, that there is some WADA rule that bans clubs who have more than maybe two players found guilty of drug offences. If that is the case then, yes, Essendon should be banned, because that's the rule and the penalty for club / state sanctioned PED programs.

Not having see him play, would Huelett be an option as a tall defender? His photos have him looking like a huge strong monster.
-
Except that the Hawks had just those two: if the cards play right we could have a trio! And it does give the opportunity / necessity to give Frost another go at defence. OMcD is someone else to look forward to, whilst Garland and possibly Dunn are definitely in their decline.

So professional of our club to come out now and say he is being rested for an extended period......I know some "old school types" will consider this as being soft, but Angus' welfare is paramount and if he is allowed to make a full recovery then he will be all the more valuable to us too.....a win / win situation. Good luck Angus

Jetta gone for a week, Vince free to play.

An opportunity to bring back JT#9 -
Too true that we were actually beaten by a better and more experienced (playing together) side - no disgrace in that. I doubt if Spencer is ready yet for an AFL game though hopefully with a couple more at Casey he will. Any chance that Huelett could get a run? I would prefer OMcD to H - needs games under his belt, and is possibly part of our future. H isn't.

Jarryd Roughead's return to health, and football - update
monoccular replied to TeamPlayedFine39's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is very sad news. Brings back bad memories of Jimma - I hope that he has a better long term outcome. A bugger of a disease and totally unpredictable. Unfortunately though, sun protection is very much underrated especially amongst the "invincible young", but even when it is well followed there are failures. Get well, Jarryd. -
Maybe, but let's not experiment with this at AFL - if it is tried for a few weeks at Casey and it works, then yes, maybe.
-
He has become an important player and will be missed this week

Geez bandicoot - I am just so glad that you don't have any say whatsoever in our player management. Your totally inexpert opinion thankfully matters not. Exactly - give him as long as the medical experts think he needs. Saying he will be back in 2 weeks is just mind boggling - perhaps bandicoot has had a few too many concussions? + And he is now back with a vengeance. Angus is far too good a talent to risk in a year we are not destined for the top.....managed properly he could well be a very damaging asset when we are up there for a genuine crack at glory.
