MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12
monoccular replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Viney named in the 25! Miracle recovery? Maybe that is why he didn't try the tribunal out risking 2, knowing he was a possibility to return after 1? -
Especially as, IMVHO, he has not been missed, particularly. His long term welfare is paramount, (as is the case for all concusees
-
Quite possibly. And quite possibly he will spend more weeks at Casey to 'recover' and work on a few aspects of his game. Another preseason in the gym will hopefully see him build towards an AFL ready body. Only then will we really know.

Melbourne to ditch Alice Springs game from next year?
monoccular replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
P. Are you naïve enough to think that the AFL have any interest in running a fair and even competition? Next you will be saying that the MRP behave with integrity and impartiality!! -
A suggestion to the webmaster when next considering an upgrade is there any way that we could get the thread title IN BIG BOLD PRINT at the top of the box in which we type replies? This thread is headed Sam Weideman and Liam Hulett but we have seen much of the last page discussing just about anything but.
-
I saw it only on TV but never for a moment even considered that he shirked - he misjudged a miskick. But I agree with the many who have said he certainly needs to lift next week or risk a trip to Casey.
-
The Hawks seem to be able to get away with anything - Mitchell's repeated kneeing, Hodge crashing opponents into the point post etc etc ...... Minimal or no penalty. I thought that the MRP were coming down hard on head high contacts, off ball contacts...... what a confirmation that they are just a corrupt body.
-
And as I recall there was a 50 m as well. He was pi55ed off about that. Talk about umpires who think they are bigger than the game. At least Bannister had the guts to come out and say he stuffed up that headlong drive in front of the Hawks' goal. Neither helped our cause of course.

Hear here. A very important part of our march forward.
-
Don't feel lonely - I am sure there are many who share your thoughts but have not chosen to articulate them. Frost offers far more than Garland, who I suspect is in terminal decline due to inability / unwillingness to adapt to the new order.
-
I would be far far more concerned were JW#4 to get injured doing unfamiliar ruck duties than CD#6 - we have coped pretty well without the latter, but the former has been pretty important this season.
-
Supplementary question, Angry Has he shown any promise, indeed has he been tried as, a back up forward / ruckman. Looks from training photos like he has a huge body for his age. PS I think you have covered this question on the current thread Dawes Ruck

Applying FORWARD PRESSURE. Not for us please..
monoccular replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good point Tony. -
I would like to ask KC or others who have seen Hulett regularly - is he a likely back up ruck option, in the medium term if not sooner? Is M King (the one currently uninjured) looking as if he will get a game in the next year or so? Does Weideman really look as if he will never become a back up ruck? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Whilst not disputing the data presented re tackle counts, of course not all forward (or anywhere) defensive pressure is reflected in tackle numbers. Hard chasing, corralling, bumping, spoiling etc are also very important but not reflected in those numbers. I suspect that these areas have also been lacking particularly in our losses. -

By winning consecutive games - when did we last string together more than two...two for that matter. -
Like it did Saturday for Garlett you me an? Do you mean they will need to crumb Dawes' dropped marks? A suggestion I think from the Casey thread of Spencer and Gawn rotation deep forward ie goalsquare would also stretch them and force one tall defender to stay back would do similar things, and allow ruck dominance throughout the game
-
Good to see Spencer named in the better players, and Hulett too. A question for KC (and other regular Casey observers) - how would you say Hulett is progressing as compared to Weideman? Who do you see as closer to a game for the Dees? Are they competing for the same position? Are either like kelt to get a few games this year?
-
Sounds good Looking forward to the summation by those who were there, and their thoughts on who may have earned a promotion.
-
I will second that. How is the time going?
-
And how is the spencil going overall? 4th game is it? Any closer to AFL?o
-
Who else? Dawes won't ruck The momentum change free to debutant in front, even though he missed, was appalling. He drove head down into the tackler, and we keep getting told this will not be paid. A disgrace. He didn't stage, he just caused the high contact. "Play on"!!

It was our only Friday night game that year, and one of few we get. I seem to remember DumbItriou saying something like "we give them a Friday night and nobody goes. Don't deserve any more". It was the opening of the Bejing Olympics FFS. 8/8/08 -
Has JKH done much? - has had a long layoff.
-
Yes and yes, they sure should, but won't I read that Pedersen was sick with pneumonia which if true would see him out for quite a few weeks. Pity, because he offers so much more - can mark, can ruck, will ruck.
