  1. Paul Roos-no,not sure I'd even like us to win games watching his gameplan The next cab off the rank is probably Scott Burns or Alan Richardson and I know that Dean Solimon is very highly regarded up here at the Suns but he's probably a few years off a senior role but he'd certainly come in and harden up our softkok pea hearts!
  2. When you bring in average players, expect average results! N.Jones was tagged by Cornes but Cornes killed him the other way.Jones, when you get tagged, you are responsible for your opponent,I was at the Suns-Saints game last night and when the Saints had the ball,Ablett was shoulder to shoulder with Sam Gilbert, his tag for most of the night. We still don't man up when the oppositition have the ball and with that, you won't win a game of football ever.Port kicked the ball to unmanned teammates all day resulting in easy goals.I was disgusted when Frawley wouldn't chase-couldn't be bothered. The recycled player experiment will be a failure on Michael Voss proportions. The absolute bottom line is we don't work hard enough when we don't have the ball. The only way this MIGHT be rectified is recognise the worst offenders and send them to Casey for 3-4 weeks and keep doing that all year if that's what it takes.Sooner or later,we will learn which players will bust their arse when they don't have the ball and the ones that don't can play the rest of the year in the VFL,because their work ethic is nowhere near AFL standard. Sam Blease should never start as sub again,he came on and had more disposals than 4 team mates that played full games and showed more desperation than most. Congratulations Jack Viney and Matt Jones, both can hold their head up very high. To only lay 54 tackles when we had so much less of the ball is a DISGRACE,that number tells me everything I need to know about our application & attitude. If nothing changes,Bombers and West Coast will hammer us by 100 points and maybe even the Giants in Round 4. I was on such a high watching the Suns beat the Saints at Metricon last night and now it doesn't get much lower.
  3. This is very poor coaching by Neeld.Far too many uncontested mark after uncontested mark,we are giving them too much space. When the opposition get the ball,we have to be shoulder to shoulder all over the ground so they have to kick to a 50-50 contest, that's how Swans beat the Hawks in the GF. We are not manning up and the ball is moving uncontested down the field for too many goals,Neelds fault. Thank God for Viney and M. Jones.
  4. Great report RR,i was also at the game and in my report last night,i stated that when Ablett,Swallow,Hunt ,Jaeger,Rischitelli and Matera got going we had no answers and our midfield will struggle all year.I agree Toumpas isn't ready yet and should spend time at Casey. He looks good in space with with disposal but so do 90% of AFL players. He'll struggle early racking up enough numbers. Everyone keeps saying we had our spine out,but the biggest problem we'll have this year and in 2014 is our midfield. We only have one quality mid in Jones, but you put Jones in Collingwood or West Coast's midfield and he'd be ranked about no. 6-7 and we don't have the support he needs. We will lose the midfield battle in 80% of games this year and our backline will once again be under enormous pressure and our Clark & Dawes won't get enough supply. So yes,we have an improving spine but our midfield will keep us bottom 2-3 this year.
  5. Just back from the game and i'm very disappointed with our lack of intensity 2 weeks out from round 1,where if we bring the same attitude,Port will smash us by 10+ goals. It was 28 degrees all game and our players just didn't look interested. We got off to a good enough start, leading 21-7,then the Suns as I expected dominated the midfield with Ablett,Swallow,Hunt,O'Meara,Rischitelli and Matera taking control, lucky Harley Bennell didn't play. Our midfield can't stand up to that. In the second quarter,we had the ball on half back flank and we kicked sideways for 3 minutes and Hogan was one out at Centre half forward with no other players within 40 metres and we wouldn't kick it to him one out,GIVE THE KID A BLOODY CHANCE FFS!!! What happens next, turnover. Our gameplan was poor all day and Neeld was easily outcoached by McKenna and the Suns have far superior footskills. Strauss was yelling at Toumpas for being out positioned in our zone set up.Byrnes kicking was appalling, kicking out on the full and missing targets all day.Gillies tried hard but won't cover Rivers.Rodan is a livewire but doesn't have a great defensive side,Howe was quiet as was Col. God,i wish Hogan could play this year like all the other 18 year olds!
  6. I'd pick Swan before Cotchin,Selwood,Watson and Dangerfield. Those 4 are very good footballers but haven't produced what Swan has the last 4 seasons.Runner up to Judd in the Brownlow, won his own Brownlow the next year and had a great year last year. Very short sighted Mike.
  7. Some good points above but it's not all about the list only. You only have to go back to the GF,where the Hawks had the more talented team on the day but the Swans had the superior gameplan which ultimately won them the cup. Hawks couldn't stand up to the pressure for 4 quarters, they couldn't get their 30 metre chipping game going because the Swans owned the space. As much as we need to build a very talented list,if Neeld doesn't get the gameplan right,we won't play top 4 football, same goes for Giants & Suns.
  8. WOOHOO, Suns v Dees @ Southport I'm a member of both Stoked!
  9. I find it absolutely staggering that for a club like ours which is over 150 years old that we only have 14,000 more members than GWS,a club that's been in existence for 1 year!!!
  10. Can someone record it and upload it to Youtube for us Interstaters?
  11. Jesse,please sign here,it's your new 15 year contract.
  12. This thread comes up every year, when will Col explode? In the 8 or so years he has played AFL,he has been a just average footballer with a couple of spike games a year,a la Daniel Wells and Kozi. Below is how Col's season pans out every year, from 1 to 10. 3,3,4,3,5,4,8,4,5,3,6,4,5,8,3,5,4,3,7,2,4,5 Stop thinking he can/will produce the 8's week in,week out!!!! Guys,he's a 5 out of 10 footballer and has 8 or so seasons as proof.
  13. The deal for Jesse Hogan for pick 3 may have included a "let Toumpas fall to us at pick 4 and it's a done deal" agreement.
  14. I'd normally agree on making your own history with your own number but Ronald Dale was the greatest Demon of all to pull on the Melbourne jumper and to see Jack running around in 31 will be amazing. No-one has done the no.. 31 justice since Ronald Dale Barassi.
  15. I'm happy overall, although don't know much about the two mature age recruits. I wanted Wines over Toumpas but time will tell. I'll be at the MCG tomorrow to watch my nephew, Scott Boland play his first shield game for the Bushies this season so I hope to see a few Dees players there. Go Dees/Bushies!
  16. I'd take Wines for his inside midfield grunt and NO go home factor. Toumpas in his own words on Youtube yesterday,is an outside mid, albeit classy and is a good finisher. So we'd have 2 JT/SA captains on a wing each when we need as much hard, tough, midfield grunt as we can get. Pick 4 better be Ollie Wines. But this will be very interesting as our recruiters didn't expect Toumpas to be available thinking it would be Whitfield,Brody,Toumpas. and we'd take Wines. We went through this exact scenario 3 years ago in deciding between a claasy outside SA mid (Trengove) and a hard, tough inside stay at home mid in Martin, I'd take a hard, tough inside stay home mid over a classy outside go home factor mid anyday of the week.
  17. 7 wins, gameplan down pat and no injuries. Every player on our list improve their kicking skills on both sides, that's where is the game is going.Davey and Green kicked right foot 4 & 3 times in their career and got into all sorts.
  18. Very happy with our draw,no Friday night games but 4 Saturday night games which i prefer anyway. Should win 6,best case 8.
  19. What's the most they can do,take Jack Viney off us? I'll bet my boat nothing comes of this because at least 6 other clubs did the same thing and the AFL know it. The AFL dangled the priority pick and every club in the position made it happen. Put a nice big juicy bone in front of a starving dog and tell him not to eat it! Get your hand off it Vlad!
  20. Care to name the rest of the hacks that wore our jumper that day that are still on our list? Or are you only interested in Knifing the players in the back that have left the club? Gutsy!!!
  21. Can't believe we've still got Bail,Bartram,Bate,Bennell & Davey!!!
  22. Swings & Roundabouts. We got Viney @ 26!!! Move on
  23. Good luck Riv,sad to see you go,wish it was Garland. It's only going to take a Frawley injury and we'll be relying on Garland and Sellars and the inexperienced Tommy Mac & Watts. This will set us back more than most people realise.
