  1. Ah well... It lives! Walk past the Blazer Bar ground floor MCC and there you will see the MFC blazer on display next to the MCC blazer (which I proudly wear), the MCC (Lords) blazer, the Hong Kong Cricket Club blazer and others! But back on topic: debt free and in the black, thank you PJ. Now for a better season in '15 and (I hope) an even better result!
  2. Big Al was certainly not the best or worst football player I have seen in red and blue but I do remember him starting out in the ruck with some promise. And I remember Steve Febey commenting on his potential in that position. As a fullback, not so good! It was not really his position but at the time he was all we had (if I remember correctly) and he battled on as best he could. However Big Al has a good brain and will succeed in life while many ex football players end up as no hopers. Good luck Al in your new job.
  3. Great game! And good on North, people seem to hate them because they keep beating us year in and year out! Well that's football, two teams play each other and one team wins! When I was a kid, North was a joke of a team, now it's the other way round. In future we may become as good or (I hope) better than North Melbourne, but for the moment I enjoyed the game last night and I reckon they might just give Geelong a fright next week!
  4. Hi Ron, Agree with you on this, and IMHO Frawley is probably being (ill) advised by his manager who sees in the move a nice little bonus! (Managers are another topic worth discussing at length one day)!
  5. I've given it a D. At the beginning of the year I thought we would probably win 7 or 8 games, that we won only 4 was very dissapointing. The output of Jack Watts and the injuries to Clark, Hogan and Trengove were my lowlights, as were the disgraceful performances against Brisbane and GWS! Howeve the canny recruitment of Vince, Cross and Tyson is to be applauded. As for Salem, Michie, JKH, Riley et al, we shall see! The saying that 90% of the game is played above the neck is probably correct, unfortunately too many Melbourne players appear to lack neck or head! The image of headless chooks comes to mind!!! I await the of season with interest. P. Roos has said it will be tough: I hope it's bloody tough.
  6. At the beginning of his career, Jones was constantly criticised for his disposal skills. He could certainly get the ball but often coughed it up with an errant kick or handball, such skill errors have largely been eradicated from his game. Riley is being given time by the club to find his feet at this level and (we hope) contribute to to the future of the club. Jones said that it took him till he reached 100 games for everything to "click" into place, Riley certainly has less time than that, but given his apparent desperate attitude he certainty gives one the strong impression that he wants to succeed. The club chased him so obviously they saw potential. Another 15 to 20 games played after a full pre-season should tell!
  7. Agree, I think Roos could have a positive effect on the kid. I think he is young enough and talented enough to fix his disposal!
  8. Could someone with more knowledge of such things download or provide a link to the article "Why the Demons must embrace the Red Sox" by Tony Joel senior lecturer in history, Deakin University. It's certainly worth reading.
  9. Frankly the only chance we have is if the whole Hawthorn team come down with the (non fatal 24 hour) Ebola virus.
  10. What went right: Neville Jetta What went wrong: Me going to that soulless joint to watch the worst football match ever! And if they ever invent a game called Allstar Championship Pointing, Jack Watts will have found his true vocation!
  11. I think Dom Barry just signed on for another two years, while Terlich may be in strife.
  12. Does anyone know if my MCC/MFC Platinum membership card admits me to todays game?
  13. I'm sure he won't be the last player to leave this or another club for money. But the way he left and the lies he told are the reasons many Melbourne supporters feel betrayed! And there have been many instances of very good players knocking back big offers so they could stay at the one club!
  14. I believe we ( the Melbourne Football Club) asked him to join us (the Melbourne Football Club). And I'm sure as you say he enjoyed being paid for his work which as I have been told was as much off the field as on it. In years to come Mr Byrnes will look back at his career in football with a satisfaction.
  15. Both have been very good, but Vince with his experience and aerodynamic hairdo just takes the prize (I'll bet Adelaide are kicking themselves for letting him go)! However it's Tyson we will all be following and cheering for the next decade.
  16. Remember Tim Watson, great footballer, great bloke. Great coach?
  17. I hope we have found a real hard nut inside player in Riley. One of the few positives to come from yesterday's feeble game. It will be interesting to chart his progress with a full pre-season behind him. Viney and Riley were our only real standouts IMHO.
  18. No, no, no! We have a far better senior leader at the club right now in Daniel Cross.
  19. I certainly had Jetta in my best player list yesterday. His improvement this year has been very pleasing: at last a really good small and tough defender. Pity the Hun and the Age didn't have him in their best Melbourne players, but then their journalists always watch a different game!
  20. 6: Dunn 5: Jetta 4: Jones N 3: Kent 2: Watts 1: Tyson Sorry Grimes, Cross, Frawley, Jordie, Viney and Salem.
  21. I think the real tragedy for the players will be seen in 10,20, 30 years time!!!
  22. Jordan (as his parents probably named him) will be on our list next year! And I bet ya Jake (as he's called on Wikipedia) Spencer's real name is Jacob!
  23. We kicked 4 goals, that one was disallowed by a very negligent umpire is of concern. Had it been allowed as it should have been and we ended up 4 points down who knows how the rest of the game may have unfolded. That stupid umpiring decision was the real turning point to the game. Who was the umpire? I trust he'll be confined to goal umpiring in the north west Darwin Development League next weekend!
