  1. I don't mind Jones, not the most skilled player on the list but he certainly gives his all (Geelong game as an example). A last resort pick for sure, but we've had worse. As for Terlich: lucky bugger's played at the highest level, which is more than I have!
  2. Yes, the ancestors who died of heat stroke at the ripe old age of 45. But 30years ago I'd go for a run in this weather, now I take my doctors advice to drink plenty of water and stay cool.
  3. More deserving than Sylvia I would expect! However as life membership is given for 10 year service (I believe) Jack's still a few years away.
  4. Agree, great looking clash jumper and far better than the red, white/silver, blue wimpish things the team's used in previous years. And, I bet they'd sell better too!
  5. Hi folks, Is Ben Kennedy the guy who always has his tongue sticking out? Dangerous practice: I remember Doggy Brown almost biting his tongue off when violently bumped by Nathan Buckley during a match. Otherwise, to those able to attend practice and file reports, a very big thank you.
  6. You are probably correct. Jako was IMHO more of a freak player than Hogan but, I'd have Hogan any day of the week. i don't think Jako had the desire/passion to last too long at a club (apparently very lazy). Still at around 187cm he was a freaky full forward.
  7. Allen Jakovich almost did it if I remember correctly. And can anyone remind me if the Melbourne Football Club has ever had a 100 goal in a season full forward, I don't think it has. I couldn't care less if Hogan never kicked the ton in a season. I want to see a tough and multi pronged forward line with Hogan, Petracca, Kent, Garlett and Weiderman causing trouble to every other AFL side. ps: Buddy Franklin was the last AFL player to kick the ton in a season I believe.
  8. Agree! And our sponsors Opel and Webjet. Wow!!!
  9. The Hun is known as the Collingwood Football Club Gazette throughout the industry ( also the liberal party herald - but that's another story). Collingwood has the biggest membership and mention of Collingwood sells papers. Even if Collingwood languished at the bottom of the ladder the Hun would treat them with reverence. It sells papers! And with the utmost respect to Demon supporter who read the Hun, I'm reasonably sure most supporters would rely upon other sources for their news, thus the relative paucity of MFC column centermeters in that paper.
  10. N Jones plus Dunn, Viney, Vince plus, Tom McDonald should definitely be in the group. Smart, passionate and (going on the interviews I've seen) very mature and committed, future captain material.
  11. I remember Dennis Cometti commenting on vandenBerg during a game (can't remember which one) and saying he did everything very well, not brilliantly, but very well. It will be interesting to see how he progresses in 2016. A full pre season should see him progress from very good to very, very good. He certainly surprised me and played like he'd been in the system for 3 or 4 years - a solid B grader. I don't think he'll ever become A grade but B+ is not beyond him.
  12. Carlton purchased premierships many years ago, but it's difficult to do today. And imagine if we had a player like Tony Lockett on our list a few years ago, how would he perform with the team we had in (say) 2012. StKilda is proof that a star or two does not make a premiership team (not withstanding their 2010 effort). Hawthorn has a star team bolstered by a few star players: that's the formula IMHO.
  13. Can't get Fox Footy! Us country people are culturally disadvantaged big time. That was the win against Sydney? I remember booing Gerard Healey.
  14. I can see it now: Gawn taps it to Viney as Salem sprints in from the back of the centre square, receives the Viney handball and places a perfectly executed left foot stab pass to Petracca 30 meters out and straight in front. This happens 3 times in a row causing Alistair Clarkson to wreck the Hawthorn coaches box before sending Luke Hodge onto Viney. So Gawn taps it to Brayshaw instead who, aided by a block from vandenBerg, feeds the ball to Milkshake running off the back of the square. Same result!
  15. Somewhat off the actual topic but when I played schoolboy football I'm sure the stops were laminated leather nailed into the boots. And we would often disagree on the number and placement of the stops as well. Also like the late, great Jack Dyer I've never adjusted to seeing modern footballers wearing glorified runners (and don't get me started on the colours). In my day real men wore real black footy boots, the sort you could wear( without the stops) into combat against the red hoards sweeping down from the north. Ah they were the days And if young Weiderman is anything like his grandad, I wouldn't say no.
  16. As long as it is at the "G" and not docklands. Surely the AFL realise Melbourne supporters hate that joint. Easter Saturday, first game of the season, we could break the 20K barrier.
  17. I'm sure many of you remember the StKilda years with Tony Lockett, greatest full forward of all time bla bla bla. It sure got the Saints a long way didn't it! Hogan may well become as spectacular as Lockett but without multiple forward line options we probably won't be any more successful than StKilda.
  18. Well said! Fitzy tried his best under trying personal circumstances. When he first joined the Dee's I asked him his former allegiance and he replied Hawthorne. I wish him success.
  19. One bloke who's head should be on the Demonland banner. I understand the general support for Viney as a future captain of the club, but McDonald oozes leadership and would get my vote. Back to front, McDonald...Petracca..Hogan, the start of something really promising.
  20. Thanks Mono, you've said exactly what I think. Thanks Jordie, all the best for the future.
  21. I believe Aiden Riley was going to do big things for us as well, but didn't. He too was competitive, tough etc. (OK had to overcome a broken leg), but many on here were salivating at the prospect of seeing "Pig Dog" Riley breaking bones in the red and blue. It all came to little! Moore may well be different, but if he can't get a sniff at Port, it's probably not worth the gamble.
  22. Quite a character is Max, and another who will eventually bring the crowds through the gates to watch the Dees. He also appears to be a bit of a darling of the TV commentators, Derm for one appears to think he's pretty OK.
  23. IMHO a glass or two of wine (for instance) is no vice but quite beneficial. (However a bottle of scotch a day is quite excessive!)
