Actually it's not. Apparently a lot of people who are members of the MCC and have had no interest in football (or have not followed a specific team) now nominate the Dee's on their renewal form as there football club. Same goes for new MCC members. Over the next couple of decades our proportion of the MCC membership will increase. I purchase both a Cricket Club membership and a $160.00 MFC/MCC membership each year. And over the last 4 or 5 years I've been pleasantly surprised as more of my friends have done the same!

6: Garland 5: Jones 4: Blease 3: Green 2: Jurrah 1: Jetta And I liked Tom McDonald's game as well. I was hoping he's get a game this year based on what I've read/seen at Casey.
-
6: Sylvia 5: Jones 4: Garland 3: Bennell 2: Trengove 1: Frawley And an Elephant stamp for effort to Sam Blease!

Agree, excellent game from the lad yesterday. On that form I couldn't see him being traded/moved on (as some seem to want).

The MCG dimensions are given as 160m x 141m in some publications (although the actual fence to fence dimensions are 173.6 x 148.4.) Docklands is supposedly 159.5 x 128.8. The ground does look a lot tighter than the MCG and certainly not 160m in length. A Western Australian man sitting behind me commentated on how small the ground was compared to Subiaco or the MCG. Are the docklands people kidding us with the ground size or is it just my (and a Weagles supporters) perception?

6:Frawley 5:Jones (gee, if only he could kick straight) 4:Howe 3:Garland 2:Trengove 1:Bartram (sh*t kick, but does a job on the opposition).

Over at 'Ology a poster is reporting that the BOM lost out to a Korean company. Big, big deal!!!
-
A bit easier than last week. And Watts keeps having a dip but watt's happened to Scully - not his best day at all! 6: Watts 5: McKenzie 4: Trengove 3: Garland 2: Martin (played OK) 1: MacDonald

Do any of the top international soccer teams use altitude training? Surely if it was any good, many of the better/richer European teams would be at it!
-
Didn't North Melbourne do some pre-season training at altitude in New Zealand this year? What's the difference between altitude training in Arizona and NZ? (other than the cost)!

Well, a bit of good news,Jack Fitzpatrick kicked six goals for Casey seconds on the weekend, and was named best on ground. OK so it was Casey v Frankston but good to see Jack up and about. I'm looking forward to seeing him in red and blue next year! (he's been a bit of a forgotten player around here)!!!

Yep, agree! However, Dean, sorry it had to happen like this. You seemed like a good bloke (and they'll welcome you with open arms into the ever expanding "sacked coaches club")
-
Good points you make, however Jim Stynes has built up so much goodwill for the club (no PR company could have done as well) that he must remain on as chairman (to use the correct title for the head of a sporting section of the MCC)even if it's a titular position. Jim is still the perfect figurehead for this club IMHO. However a strong and media savvy vice chairman would then be able to take on much of the day to day work Jim is unable to do because of his health issues. Just another point: since Andrew Leoncelli stepped down from the board I heard that Jim was supposed to take on Andrew's task of board member responsible for overseeing the football department. With his continuing health problems this may not have been possible - so maybe: 5. Ensure someone on the board with a football background is appointed to oversee the running of the football department.
-
Jim saved this club (with a little help from his friends) but I don't think he's been too well these last few weeks. And I'm sure today's result will not help him feel any better. I think the players (together with the coaches) are the ones who deserve a kick up the bum. They're the ones being paid big $$$ to play the game.
-
He isn't as talented as a few of our other players, but he sure has a talent to "see ball, get ball". It seems to be a talent lacked by most players on our list!
-
And what about Tom's management? If he goes to GWS how much more do they rake off his contract than what they would get from him re-signing with the MFC? Isn't it as much about the extra money (commission) they would receive?
-
I believe the bond is between Trengove and Tapscott. They were school friends and apparently Trengove was delighted when we took Tapscott. Frankly I'd be very upset if Scully left, but more so if another club poached Frawley!
-
I agree with all you say! And Max went at #34 in the 2009 draft.

6: Watts 5: Martin 4: McKenzie 3: Green 2: Scully 1: Howe

Yes DemonDave now I remember and yes, how times change! Dane Swan was in tears after the game and had to be consoled by Mick Malthouse. In those days he was nothing much of a player but boy oh boy has he turned himself around!
-
Who was playing on Adem Yze that day? Does anyone remember? I have a feeling it was one of the Maggies current stars (but may be wrong). Anyway as I remember (and I saw very little of the replay yesterday) Yze starred that day.
-
Not one Melbourne player was in the top 10 on the ground, however:- 6: Sylvia 5: Morton 4: Martin 3: Watts 2: Gawn (encouragement award) 1: Howe (encouragement award)

Saw the game on TV and Petterd was everywhere! Do we have a new position for him as an on-baller? Or was yesterday's performance just a fluke against a below average VFL team?
-
Throughout my many many years of watching the MFC, I can remember relatively few players have had an impact from their first game. Adem Yze for instance took a season or so to settle into the side (excuse the alliteration) and Russell Robertson was in and out of the seniors for a few years before settling into permanency. Luke Tapscott appears - at this stage - to be one of the few who felt comfortable on the big stage from the moment his feet hit the turf at the "G"! And even more so when his shoulder hit Rhyce Shaw in his first game! Luke Tapscott has certainly impressed me this year! Watts and Martin have dun good too.
-
At the beginning of the season I thought Martin was holding on by a fragile thread to the MFC and a career in football. So his improvement this year has been most pleasing. No, he's not a world beater, but I see improvement in his game week to week and with his reputed high intelligence, I should imagine he would keep improving as the year progresses. At Stephan's age we were all calling for Jamar to be sacked, which would probably have seen him back in Adelaide ripping it up for the Crows!
