PRESEASON TRAINING: Tuesday 27th February 2024
In Harmes Way replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
lol- my wife works at Calvary - it’s an aged care home. Not much support to our season coming from there -
https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1493891/a-letter-from-gus-to-the-demon-faithful I think Gus's own summary points to the medical team he appointed providing a diagnosis that he wasn't fit to continue playing. It certainly doesn't read that the AFL "forced" him to retire; more that he's sadly accepted professional medical advice.

Matthew Lloyd Worried About the Dees in 2024
In Harmes Way replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Injuries, form, game style in Feb/March doesn't really matter a stuff. Let's start to take notice and get worried if need be in late July. -
I remember saying the same thing about us in the finals last year.

Phil Scully is probably choking on his pie wondering how Tom missed out on making this list

And a snag from the DA team

Thanks for posting that WCW, very informative. I'm particulalry interested in the Beyond Bank presence as I'm a customer and the only branch they have in Melbourne is in South Melbourne, which is hugely inconvenient. I've been trying to deposit a cheque for three years. Hopefully they'll accept it at the ground. And I'll score a donut too. What a win.

I'd give us the points in the first three games - we were much better than Sydney in Sydney last year; dogs hold no fears for us and neither should Hawthorn. Port away in Rd 4 is 50/50, Adelaide again away in Adelaide on a 5 day break is probably 40/60 as is Brisbane at the G. I'd be happy with 4/2 but I'd take 3/3. Hopefully we don't win three then lose three. Not great for confidence/momentum and the rubbish that will get published in the H'sun. But a Wednesday night, two Thursday night and a Saturday night game in the first 6 rounds is unreal for TV exposure (even if three of them are interstate and I can't go).

Best thing about SM getting sick in the off season is that he won't be eating shellfish during the season now and missing a game.

If Jesus reincarnated and presented in the draft, I wouldn’t be trading Clarry to bring him in

Success has many fathers.

And he holds his own against bigger bodies

I hope the coaching group use the next 3 months to analyse every game this year - we had across our 25 games: 14 wins where we had more scoring shots than our opposition 6 losses where we had more scoring shots than our opposition 2 wins where we had less scoring shots than our opposition 3 losses where we had less scoring shots than our opposition Despite the fact we're the most frustrating team to support, there really is some low hanging fruit there. The style of game in our early season wins was quite emphatic. More of that please.

Vale Ronald Dale Barassi - Rest in Peace

I imagine the queue of people behind St Peter at the pearly gates would resemble a grand final crowd -
Are we all on the Giants bandwagon?

I agree with all of this but still have a beef with the afl syndicated team and the grief we copped through the draft when they came into the competition. My vote is for a night grand final and a massive power failure as a result of the Kiss concert at half time which will take 6 months to fix -

I thought the 2006 Comm Games got it right when they had him walk on water across the yarra with the torch at the opening ceremony. Agree with the calls to name the premiership cup after him. There’s a nice synergy with the Norm Smith medal -
Judging by most post game threads, I’m surprised you’ve gone with happy. Really happy I cannot get behind.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
In Harmes Way replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon the AFL felt they needed to let this go “as a football act” because the next cab off the rank will be a player getting knocked out when an opponent takes a hanger on him and knees him in the head. Then the hanger is outlawed based on this precedent, and then it’s a slippery slope to killing the game entirely. -

Gus’s brother Hamish called it https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/brayshaw-brother-hits-out-at-afl-over-collingwood-bias-after-maynard-collision-c-11876065.amp -
People or Collingwood supporters?

How dare Whately have an opinion on this, given he hasn't played the game. /sarcasm. But it's a spot on opinion. -

That opens a can of worms. The end consequence of this argument is that no players with past concussions will be allowed to take the field. That way the impact can be graded equally across the competition. As this isn't currently the case, impact has to be graded based on the impact to the player who was deemed fit by the AFL to play. -
You should also include the doggies in 2026 who won and had to play 4 finals

Really flat after that one. We won’t win many/any games with a first half like that. Great attitude to not drop the head in the second half. Got a mountain to climb now, but if anyone can do it, we can.
