  1. Shattered about Tomlinson. Was so happy for him that he’d finally found his position, and so happy for the team that we’d finally solidified our defensive structure. Will be impossible to replace.
  2. I would, happily.
  3. My understanding was that we were keen for him to accept a significant offer from the Gold Coast, which would have netted is a top 10 pick (7 I think). I don’t believe we were keen for him to leave to Collingwood for next to nothing. Collingwood came in very late in the process when the GC trade was all but a done deal. Howe accepted significantly less money and we received significantly less in return.
  4. Credit where credit is due - Goodwin is the snr coach and for better or for worse, the buck stops with him. His tenure has seen: 2017 9th 12 wins 2018 4th 14 wins + 2 finals wins 2019 17th 5 wins 2020 9th 9 wins (17 game season) There's nothing too shocking about us playing well and I don't see anything more or less remarkable when compared to similar 'false dawns' with Leigh Matthews' Lions, Thompson's Geelong, Clarkson's Hawks; even Beveridge's Dogs. All these teams experienced a degree of success with a young list, then fell away, only to return to the top a few years later.
  5. Outstanding sustained and intense pressure. Got about as much chance of being dropped as Gawn.
  6. Good, honest player; very happy with his development. Bit of James McDonald about him imho.
  7. Freeman - gee, that's a blast from the past! I was very keen on him over Salem in their draft year. Good to hear he's able to play VFL football after all his injury issues.
  8. Due to our 6-0 start, most mock teams with be biased toward us and the Bulldogs. With that said, the following Demons would be safely in the squad: May (though last years omission gave me pause for thought) Lever Salem Langdon Oliver Petracca Gawn From that list, Petracca and Gawn's high profiles, coupled with stellar form, would put them safely in the team. They're both now at a standard and reputation that they're pencilled in before the season even starts. The next rung would be Oliver, Lever and May. All three have high profiles, have been promoted by the media and, in the case of Oliver and Lever, have made the squad/team before. You're then left with Salem and Langdon, who are currently playing at AA standard, but don't have the media attention at this stage or a run of consecutive years where they are in All Australian contention.
  9. I’ve always rated Spargo and have tried to defend him over the last couple of years. It became quite challenging at the back end of 2019 and start of 2020. He’s always been a very ‘smart’ player, but he’s added a hardness to his game this year that has seen him really start to show what he is capable of at senior level. He’s only going to get better too.
  10. Anyone feeling sympathy for North Melbourne wouldn’t need to look far through the game archives... we’ve been on the end of some absolute pantsings by the Roos over the last 25 years.
  11. I don’t recall a worse reaction to a loss from an opposition supporter base; they are going nuts! Despite their massive success, there is still a deep running insecurity in Richmond supporters.
  12. Not a not particularly funny joke cracked by not particularly funny people. The ones who say it are usually the only ones that laugh. With that said, as far as club supporter stereotypes, there are far, far worse than ours.
  13. You seem to be trying to fire off as many edgy comments as you can in a short amount of time. You’re disrespectful... we get it. Put down the phone, go outside, and yell at the neighbourhood children.
  14. I think you might be missing the middle-ground option. You can play your first game of football without be tasked with manning one of the best players ever at the peak of his powers.
  15. Never expected to see Weid and Brown in this week, but am disappointed to not see Weideman named. Goodwin talked a lot this week about not wanting to lose the ‘chemistry’ in the team and I suppose it came down to that. Would prefer to see someone like vandenberg as the injury sub and the young guys playing full games to develop at Casey. (We’ll smash these has-beens)
  16. He was very good last year.
  17. It's showing that other people's self-esteem is high enough that they don't need a the boost from anonymous posters on a fan forum. You don't think he's a forward. Great. Others disagree. Great. No one needs to admit to being right or wrong at this very, very early stage of his career.
  18. And a 2 time Brownlow medalist as well!
  19. Easily the best since ‘94 IMHO. If anything, he’s so consistently good, he’s underrated.
  20. Always has moved beautifully. Seems to be a player who needs to believe he belongs at AFL level. Some take longer than others - hopefully soon!
  21. Going against the grain again, but I find the club and many supporters stubborn fixation the the MCG precinct to be counterproductive. West Coast, Fremantle, Brisbane, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, have all moved away from their heartlands in order to give their clubs room to grow. We don’t even have a place at traditional home and we still refuse to move. Any available land that we can secure in Richmond, Jolimont, etc. will be very small, with next to no room for expansion. I’m genuinely concerned that, by the time we have it built, we’ll be looking for a bigger base again in 20 years. Demographically speaking, the number of Melbourne supporters who have any recollection of the MCG being our base is slipping into a minority. It doesn’t hold the nostalgia to young people that it does for those who saw our last premiership. When you see the space West Coast have and Hawthorn are planning to build, it paints a scary picture of future inequality. The longer we leave the acquisition of significant land, the worse things will be for us.
  22. Earl Spalding played both ends.
  23. Billy Stretch was excellent too.
  24. For me, it's weirdly more to do with sponsors. If I see the TOOHEYS or LG logo, I feel happy. If I see a KASPERSKY or WEBJET I feel sad. With that said, I think both our current colour schemes look great, and I also quite linked the Blue guernsey, with the Red back.
