  1. No. 2022 was crueled by injuries and we did not allow for recuperation and recovery during the season. 2023 was crueled by losing Petty and Melksham (who surely would have been worth 1-2 goals) and the illegal hit on Angus that affected our options in the first week of the finals. Maysie was right - we are as good as them. Let's hope that better injury management and greater fortune with the timing of injuries will enhance our prospects for this year.

  3. Came down to injuries in the end, just a kick in it, to win the cup everything has to roll your way.

  5. Sounds a lot like "my mate Shannon worked at the Dees so i liked them - now he doesn't they're done". Slow news day.

  6. I reckon he could. Sestan has some real x factor about him and like Mcvee, who is another Taylor special, his point of different is his foot skills. But like Mcvee needs an AFL tank and body - which he looks like he is working on. Sestan has the ability to kick those across the body on the 45 kicks that players like Daniel, Miers, Guthrie, Crisp and Nick Daicos are so good at hitting. With all teams employing zones and and all team defence having players with that skill has become increasingly important to cut through congestion and find free players.

  8. It was Biffen Lakes 5 posts ago. By the end of the day it'll be Biffen Puddles. That sounds like a delightful place, actually. 'I'm off to Biffen Puddles for the weekend'.

  9. Great article. I think that the stats around Max are a little misleading. Last year he missed quite a few games and also shared Rick duties a lot of the time.

  11. Results however will tell the tale of Casey being the major training ground with about 20 advantages over Goschs In our drought breaking 2021 premiership. The facilities at Casey recently only upgraded are second to none for professional footballers and not just a field made out of open space like Casey. And the size of the ground and its surface plus dimensions of the MCG which no doubt assists our AFL boys adjust to training and moves on the same size. About the only advantage of Goschs is location which some Club supporters allow to blinker judgement on Casey for any little event that is played or held let alone the historic playing home ground advantage to both the AFL and VFL teams. An hours drive into the country was the privilege of our immortal 2021 heroes and could well be again in 2024 if we lift the flag again. Yes it would be nicer if we could actually gain admission to the ground to watch our heroes on occasions. Mr Picket excluded also unfortunately.

  12. There are only two leaps in our demographics which we need to overcome; Gawn and May. It is unfortunate that Jackson left (booooo) and that our veteran forwards stumbled enough to make Petty to forward a near-compulsory move in 2023. Otherwise I'd say succession for both positions is well covered. Ont he bright side, we have a wave of drafted talent coming through which would normally be associated with a bottom-4 team and I suspect an equally surprising salary cap position by the end of 2024. Given our recruiting record over the last 5 years I'm confident that we can rise to the challenge of targeting two very specific roles with perhaps a 3-year delay before any other positional needs become urgent.

  13. Absolutely spot on. A series of unfortunate facts that many doomsayers either ignore or choose to forget. (see Kane Kornes). With a bit of luck with injury this year and the new blood, I reckon we will be OK.

  14. Shh… you’re making too much sense for the media and the negative nancies on Demonland In all seriousness we have had mitigating circumstances the past two seasons - particularly 2023 - that have meant we haven’t been able to perform at anywhere near our best, particularly come finals time Clearly there are some coaching, gameplan and personnel weaknesses that have exacerbated this, but more than anything it has been bad luck with injuries that has crueled us And I reckon new recruits, fire in the belly and a bit of good luck will take us a long way in 2024

  19. Excellent article. And written with a good in-depth analysis of what is already known, but without the red-and-blue eyes, that we all have. Makes some excellent points about the Petty forward option and how it affects others, and in fact, the whole team. And also makes a truly relevant point about our wingers, and importantly not using statistics as pure numbers, but points out the relevance of the numbers when compared with Collingwood wingers.

  20. Take as long as you want 'SWL', personally I can't see the point. I'm looking forward to season 2024. I wonder what it will bring???

  21. TMac had no runs on the board last September. He was a complete liability in both games. He couldn’t move. It was actually embarrassing to watch. Unforgivable from a Selection pov, but it was done not once but twice, whilst 2 fit blokes were not used. will take a long time to forget last September

  24. Emailed the club today to find out training dates, but alas, the office is closed until Jan 18. The club seems unconcerned about fans wanting to support our team at training. The only message on the website is from last year advising that all training would be at Casey due to works at Gosch's Paddock. I'm keen to take my grandkids to a session before they go back to school.
