Absolutely spot. The fact Mike Sheehan son tim tweeted as early as round 2 about us talking to Roos was also true. AFL phone Roos and put in a case for him to come back to coaching. Neeld was a dead man walking as soon as Schwab got the sack. AFL got onto PJ and basically told him to start and look for a new coach as soon as he was appointed.I was also told Roos has already courted 2 assistant coaches from current clubs and could be announced during his press conference. The leadership group were on a massive high after meeting Roos and couldnt wipe the smiles off there face. Word basically got around to the players and there was genuine excitement around the place and lockeroom. PJ spoke to the players and told em to keep it on the low down until announced. RobbieF is correct in staff have been told. Excitement first but alot of questions going around in who will be moved on when Roos comes on board. Taylor Adams has spoke to the club. Doesnt seem interested but about to change. The Scott Selwood rumour is true. West Coast will play hardball. Just on the leadership group meeting. The players were in absoloute awe of him. They all raved on how he has this presence and auroa about. When he talks there is a pin drop in the room. Roos put forward his coaching methods and what he had installed for them. Players were blown away.30 points

MFC Staff had a meeting yesterday and were told that basically Roos is the new coach.18 points

We've actually been courting Roos since 2002. All he was waiting for was a 30 goal loss, Todd Viney's son to debut and a dwarf to be set on fire. The planets are aligned.17 points

Haha! People on here worried about Paul Roos defensive game plan. Gimme a break, our % this year was 52! After the last 7 years of poo we have all witnessed i don't care what the scores are, as long as the MFC is in front!! Regularly....14 points

Interesting that is exactly the same feedback I was given by my friend on the board.............................. who I may add went very silent on Roos after being adamant we were going to get him in May or early June. Clearly the board and administration smartly kept their mouth shut. This may have been a test......... so to speak. Certainly the old board and admin would have leaked this all day everyday and the deal would have been lost. The point is that no body knew how close things had got, despite obvious and clear on-going communications between the club and Roos. Well done to the club (assuming no last minute fcuk up!). I asked my "friend" who was going to be coach a month ago after Roos had sort of said no publically, and he told me they were still confident in getting Roos. I reported this here at the time but it seemed few believed. I had even lost confidence.12 points

There are some generous people among us. Some of whom have gone a long way to rescuing this club from the brink on multiple occasions. My guess...those people may be afforded some additional "comfort" by way of information.11 points

Our main PP has been the AFL assisting us in getting Jackson to the CEO posititon who in turn has procured Paul Roos. We have recieved much. A PP in this years draft is not tbat important to me. We need to delelop who we have and trade hard in FA. Too much importance has already failed badly with high draft picks. The club needs to work hard and get dirty, not wait for gifts.10 points

RF is a Foundation Hero, the staff are excited. And you don't have to question the veracity - I will vouch for RF.10 points

Alastair Lynch will not be replacing anyone. The List Manager position has been a vacant job since Tim was made redundant. Todd Viney is our General Manager of Player Development. George Stone has been a rumour to take the Player Development position, though most have linked him as a potential assistant to Roos. Jason Taylor is the National Recruiting Manager, he is not the List Manager. Geolf Walsh is the name circling the Football Manager position that Josh is currently doing (and has applied for) Just though this needed clearing up.8 points

Really have to congratulate on PJ and the club for daring to dream, targeting the best coach on the market and making it happen, with these blokes in charge i have faith this terrible era of the MFC is now behind us.7 points

It's an incentive. It promotes mediocrity and insinuates that AFL teams can act poorly and get benefits from it. That's the general argument that has been trolling around the forums of the AFL of recent. I invite the 17 other clubs to try it. If they think that what we've been through is worth it, come and try it out. See if you think a good Coach is worth what we've been through. Losing an Icon, a Leader, a Vision, Fighting Debt, Horrific Loss after Horrific Loss after Horrific Loss, losing players to stronger teams, being a joke, and MUCH MUCH more. If you think going through that perfectly equates to getting some money for a good coach, I welcome others to try it.7 points

I have been in Sydney for the last two days having some meetings and am back at the Airport waiting for my flight home to Brisbane. Sitting here in my Demons Polo Shirt has brought a few people up asking if I work for the club! Any rumours you want me to start?6 points

To be honest I'm happy with anything that prevents Lynch commentating games on TV. Maybe we can find roles for Brian Taylor, Luke Darcy, Tony Shaw, Dwayne Russell, Hamish McLachlan and Basil Zempilas.5 points

I'm sure we'd all prefer winning games 120 to 60. I'm also sure we'd also agree, though, that winning games 70 to 60 would be preferable to what we're going through right now. Finally, the notion that Melbourne with Roos = Sydney circa 2005 is not correct. One of many problems with both Bailey and Neeld was that they brought in game plans they wanted to implement, but that were being left behind by the competition. Roos brought in his Sydney game plan to counter the style of football that was winning Brisbane its premierships. I'd back him to read the game as it currently stands and work on styling a game that will suit the current AFL, and if that means defence, then it means defence, but if it means something else, then it will be that.5 points

Trying to understand Watts' mental application in a game is confusing but I find it stems from his basketball excellence. The main reason he does not chuck himself at the ball (in the air or on the ground) is because he makes the choice of keeping his feet in every contest, even if that contest demands that he fling himself at it. The same principle exists in soccer, where you rarely fly in with a bold tackle. You sit 1 - 2 metres away and keep the opposition player from being able to attack where they want to. Jack often appears to be controlling a space, or hanging back to defend a space, but rarely chucking himself in to get the ball. This surely can be taught. Also, his brilliance in the 2008 under age championship where he caught the eye of all the recruiters were - this is fair dinkum - his pack marking and goal kicking. Because the defensive pressure is underage footy is poor, he was able to run and leap over packs without physical pressure being a hindrance. Neither Bailey nor Neeld have been able to help bridge the huge physical gap and he still plays like an U18 footballer. His tackling really is woeful - but I firmly believe this can be taught. Give him a KPI of at least 4 tackles (that stick) a game and see if this changes his understanding of physical contact and going hard for the ball. It is his pack marking / contested marking that is the main worry. Out on a lead no problems. But jostling and pushing off, blocking for others, steady core strength all seem to evade him constantly so he goes back to being 1 -2 metres off every contest waiting to respond to a play rather than making the play. Having said all that, I am still in the 50/50 mindset with him regarding trade or not. One thing I will say. When he gets the ball in his hands his decision making and skills are sublime. Best kick at MFC since Trav Johnston. Just wish he would go and get it more often and make the play.5 points

Has anyone considered that it was not Green, nor is it Watt's role to get in and under to get the ball out, but rather to receive the ball so that they can use their elite disposal skills to best benefit the team. I don't get this obsession with Watts needing to go in and get every ball. Watch other key forwards and rucks etc, they don't go in after every single ball. There are plenty of examples of Cloke, Buddy, Roughead, all hovering around the outer of the packs waiting to receive the ball, rather than being the one digging it out. I think in general, Watts' work rate has improved dramatically this year. I thought he was great against the dogs too. There was one passage in where he lead through the middle in the first quarter, when Tommy Mac had the ball coming out of the back half, and he had about 10 mtrs on his man. What happened next.....Tommy Mac didn't see him, so Watts then sprinted to the wing. Tommy Mac gave the ball to Chippa who kicked to Jones, who drew the free kick, Watts kept running, received the handball outside 50, and then delivered to Kent for the goal. Many are often quick to criticize Watts' work ethic, but he was on about a 70metre lead, from out of our forward line when Tommy didn't see him, he then ran probably another 50 metres, to get to a position to get the handball receive before delivering to Kent. He did not stop pushing to get into space, he kept working to be in position to receive the ball. I've seen multiple examples of him working into space only to be ignored, and then working hard to get back for another lead. He has dominated players like Dale Morris on the lead, who couldn't keep up with him. That's his strength, and he plays to it. So we may want him to be a Jonathon Brown, but he's not that type of player. He is a leading forward with speed, more like a Josh Kennedy type. Sometimes I wish people would focus on what improvements he has shown, rather than just lamenting how he isn't playing how they want him to play. If he's playing the role the coach has for him, then he is doing his job.5 points

Assuming Roos is coach, I'm in favour of sticking with Watts. Roos' impact is going to be cultural and psychological, I think game-style will flow from these. I'd like to see Roos work with Watts on his deficiencies. If Roos was still coach of Sydney and Watts was looking for a trade there everyone would be saying "well that's an environment where he can finally realise his potential".5 points

Personal opinion 'stuie', but I would play Clark in the ruck. I think he adds another player to our midfield and will get a lot of his own ball, something that Jamar and Spencer don't do. Boyd does run through the ruck and would be the relief for Clark, as we've seen with Grundy this year if you are good enough all this development talk for young talls doesn't count. They can come in and make an immediate impact. Clark is probably our next best mid anyway, if his foot is right to go then he is right to play any position on the ground. I don't go with the idea of protecting him as a forward, there's no place to hide these days in AFL footy. Of course if we don't get PP1 it's another argument, I would still look at Clark in the ruck though for the reasons above. I just think we are one man down if we take Jamar or Spencer in. Gawn I think has more upside but is still a bit off yet and needs an injury free run this preseason.5 points

Whatever it takes...except for drugs. We won't do that. We won't tank either (we learned our lesson on that one), and we probably won't play dirty. We might flood if Roosey wants us to, and we're definitely gonna kick it long a lot. But we promise we won't go down the boundary line EVERY time...just most of the time. Is that too long?4 points

In relation to roos and having the discussions with Watts and co, not sure if anyone noticed but the excitement Watts showed after kicking one of his 4 goals tells me he is staying and that the boys know Roos is on board also. We wouldnt have got this reaction from him if he was at his last game for MFC.3 points

For mine, it's pretty simple. He doesn't want some ridiculous bells and whistles "I am the messiah" thing at the b + f. He just wants to come in and coach a football club that wins games, and in doing so, establishes a culture of excellence.3 points

It's not hard to figure out why Roos wants to wait to announce it, wouldn't you want your family with you for support for such a life changing and big announcement I know we are impatient and want to know now but we may just have to wait3 points
