Get real guys. At least he had the good grace not to slag off at the club or any of its personnel on departure. I wish him well and hope he can piece his career together at his new club.19 points

That was our submission for Draft Assistance from the AFL. 30 points scored and a 50 inside 50 differential, together with the lowest inside 50 count ever recorded. Up to you other clubs, argue against that.12 points

21 disposals 7 tackles and was clean today. Was by far jimmy's best game this year and starting to look like he is adjusting to the tempo. Will be a very good footballer for us for many years to come. Another pre season, bigger, faster and more confidence will do him well. Keep it up Jimmy! Was just interviewed on triple M and said that he had little pre season and found it hard at the start but now he is getting more confident and running out games well.7 points

Told by a club official Clark to train with the main group this week and could play at Casey in two weeks. Game after is GWS so who knows.6 points

Today has shown that Neil Craig probably isn't the right guy for us going forward. He dropped Rodan on a wet day, and then proceeded to make no structural changes the entire game. Poor coaching performance. Effort can't really be questioned, although if you were to ask who went harder today, the answer would still be Geelong, so...5 points

19 inside 50's, I think he was watching the game being played in Geelongs forward line, like the rest of our forwards.4 points

From being at the ground today there was nothing wrong with our endeavour. A poorly skilled side is always going to be worse in appalling conditions. We would lose the clearance then not have the skills to get the ball out of defence. Score and inside 50 count was reflective of our skills and decision making not our effort.4 points

55 tackles in a half of footy - heading towards a team record high tackles. Playing the best team in the comp, probably the best team of the modern era and arguably the best team of all time. We are the second worst side in the competition. We are playing in Geelong, where they have won 37 of their last 38 matches (only losing to that year's Premier by a couple of goals). Effort is not the problem. Strength around the ball, proper use of the ball and knowledge of where to run are much bigger issues. Cats players working players off the ball and using teammates who instinctively run to the right areas make a team look like they aren't trying. Geez - any time a better team [censored] a lower team people whinge that the players aren't trying - conveniently ignoring the glaring differences between the sides. It's a dullards way of looking at a game (such as today's) where people essentially are saying that if the players tried harder we'd be winning. You mean like when we beat a terrible Bulldogs side by 3 points or when we were comfortably beaten by a side in first gear on our home ground in perfect weather for footy? You look like you're looking for cheap excuses and easy answers - they don't look like they're playing under the weight of 186, you look like you're desperately trying to attach an association that isn't there. Lack of run? It's bloody wet weather footy against a side dominating stoppages and using numbers well - we are a crap side with crap decision makers and terrible skills.4 points

As a matter of interest, Hogan's opponent from his 6 goal game was Michael Watson. Last week against Essendon he played on Gumleton (who kicked 5 the previous week) and gave him a bath and was named as their best.4 points

Superannuation. Not another one of those, we have enough washed up players at the club already.3 points

Disappointing selection and coaching for me today. Not that anyone could have helped us win this afternoon. This is the toughest assignment in footy by far. Combine that with the worst midfield in the AFL, plus pouring rain, and the result is just about right. I have no doubt we would have lost by a lot more under Neeld, and when you consider that we lost by over 100 against Essendon and West Coast at home, this result puts a lot into perspective. We did fight all day and our tackling shone through. Everyone put in physically and that is all you can ask for right now. Bring me a midfield dear AFL. Please also keep in mind that its been a long time since we've played in this sort of weather. In fact, guys like Kent, Terlich, M Jones etc have never played at AFL level in this sort of rain, or indeed in Geelong. We had no idea how to handle the conditions as a whole, which is where Frawley and Garland and Jones experience shone through. They knew how to handle it, but a lot of our kids did not. Good learning experience.3 points

Inside 50's this quarter are more than 15 to 1 and no forward line is going to look good if that occurs. We are an ordinary side with poor disposal playing the best team in the comp for the 30th year in a row, probably, at their home ground in the wet, and they have big bodied players, we have skinny kids. Dawes 3 possessions, Watts 4, Howe 5, Fitz 2 and that's because the ball is up the other end, continually; we need a midfield where Nat Jones is a third stringer, we need quality and we need class or the best forward line in the comp just won't kick goals.3 points

Disagree. The wet weather is a major disadvantage for us given we are hopeless at clearances and our best asset is our tall towards.I'm happy with our tackling. We are going hard at the footy, which is all we can ask for when we are getting so comprehensively beaten.3 points

Right now I am very excited that there is another day in the weekend! I was thinking today was Sunday!3 points

You are an idiot. Seriously, we are playing the best team in the comp, in howling rain, at their ground. Get a grip. We are down by 36 points and we are struggling. But to say we aren't trying is a pathetic comment.3 points

Whoever dropped Rodan when it was going to rain, with the ball on the ground so much, take a bow. A hard strong quick low to the ground player is dropped for a heavy track, gee.3 points

Most important or best? Best is what I think you've proposed. Most important would be the players we want to lead the club forward and be genuine stars of the competition: Hogan Frawley Watts Gawn Viney If those 5 can be in the best dozen of their positions (ie key forward, key back, floating forward, ruck, inside mid) we will go a long way to being a competitive finals team once more.3 points

I am impressed someone can start a rumour that Storm from Gladiators is Nathan Jones' mum and have idiots like me believe it.3 points

I don't know for sure but I suspect PJ is going to follow the tradition set by one of his predecessors who left his post to attend Wimbledon. I believe PJ's break coincides with the US Open Tennis and if that's the case there's every chance that, on his return, there will be an announcement that John Tomic is one of our new assistant coaches.3 points

I'm kicking off GAMEDAY with what, in hindsight, has turned out to be a rather bizarre coincidence in the history of Geelong v Melbourne meetings. This was my opening post to the GAMEDAY thread from last year's encounter between the clubs:- Byrnes and Gillies were the emergencies who came into the Cats' senior side to replace Selwood and Lonergan. Both are now with the MFC.Welcome to the twilight zone.2 points

I still reckon the boys have another gear of hardness to tap into. They just don't go hell for leather, and wet weather footy against Geelong shows that as clear as crystal.2 points

Oh god..the commentary. King: "I just love the way Geelong blah blah blah.." Dwayne: "Premiership defender David King there." McGuire: "<insert incredibly condescending comment about 'the Melbourne team'>" Dwayne:"<insert equally condescending and crap joke about how bad Melbourne are>" Dunstall: "At least they are matching the Cats in inside 50s.." Dwayne: "Coleman medallist and premiership player Jason Dunstall.." Make it stop. Please make it stop.2 points

I really like Terlich, but he is defensively lacking. Has to first and foremost shut down his opponent. Very happy with our tackling. And Toumpas is having a good start.2 points

Who's our most important player? When we have the ball, it's the guy with the ball. When we don't have the ball, it's the guy trying to get the ball.2 points

Exactly. The whole purpose of the review is to eliminate clear errors. Even if we pretend for a moment that the LBW decision was line ball - if teams are choosing to roll the dice and use reviews on line ball decisions in the off chance they might get overturned and aren't successful, then they have no right to complain when there are no reviews left to use on the genuine mistake.2 points
-
A poor decision for sure, but it shouldn't be forgotten the reason we couldn't challenge it. The referral of the LB earlier in the day was absolutely shocking and completely wasted our last review. Costly. While Pattinson should've known better, I place the blame pretty squarely with Haddin. He should've known the ball was passing leg by a mile and said as much immediately. Could cost us dearly, if it hasn't already.2 points

I like the look of him. Obviously the recruiters see a lot more of these players and I also agree we need a strong over the ball player, which may not be Kelly's go, but he reeked of class, poise and good decision making to me. He also doesn't fumble, just like the best talents at AFL level. I reckon he'll be a great player. But I'm not wedded to any player this year. Just don't stuff up.2 points

You guys who are tempering your expectations can do so if it's what you need to do to mitigate the risk of disappointment. My expectation is that he'll be a star and it will happen sooner rather than later, and that he's got the confidence and mental toughness to cope with the heavy weight of one fan's expectations.2 points

Now taking bets on the first "Hogan is a hack" thread to hit Demonland. Will it be: A. After his first game B. After only kicking 3 goals in the Nab Cup against Geelong in Albury suburban footy ground C. After failing to win the Rising Star Award D. After 3 games in a row in which he kicks just 1 goal2 points
