I dont think there is anyone on our team thats untouchable. I posted a comment about 3 weeks ago saying Mclean should be traded and got a lot of bagging for it. There are 0 stares at melb. 0. I would very happly trade Mclean + Jones for pick 2. Fact is it will never happen. To be frank im really peeved at melb for resigning so many hacks including bruce and a number of others. Bruce would be worth a 3rd rounder which is what we need. I cant see melb being a contender for the flag for 6 years. We have a crap FB, no CHB no CHF and no FF. The spine of teams takes a long long time to get right. Hawks did it well creating a team around the spine. This is where CAC and danners failed. So i would be happy trading anyone. Players not worthy of resigning shouldnt be. Thought from my mates are that the afl will give the 2 new teams a lot of draft picks to which they can use to snare players from other clubs. If this were to happen it would be the best thing for the MFC. I just cant believe the amount of people that had a go at me for suggesting we need to tank. Not only that but slamming me for saying it will be 6 years before we have a good chance.

If Judd can only get pick 3 and a player and pick 20 what would make you think McLean or anyone on our list for that matter plus a draft pick is going to score us pick 2.

Oh come on Judd is a star. Mclean is a hack. Enough said

What can we do to get pick 2 ?

Nothing !! It wont be available , especially in light of changed drafting to come.

Get over it..learn to live with it.

Some of you either need to get realistic..or grow up..or both.. I'll leave it to yourselves to decide which !! <_<

McLean and Jones for pick 2 is nonsense. I can understand you're frustration with their inconsistent performances but if we did this deal we would be worse off in the short run, the long run and any run you want to mention.

We do need to look at trading people but not promising 20 and 22 yr olds. If we did this we would have punters like you typing about these mistakes we made listening to your advice.

I agree with some of the other things you said though.

The fact is Robbo should have gone, Bruce should have gone, Green should have gone but there are fans that don't want to see them go (some still don't with trapper) even though they realise they won't be around for our next tilt at a flag.

They've got value and we should exploit that, we have been far too protective of careers at the expense of the club winning a flag, but trading McLean and Jones isn't going to help us win that flag.

Is it possible to trade Yze_Magic for pick 2? He seems to always get his name in the papers so thats some free publicity for whichever team picks him (or her) up...

Wouldn't dare trade McLean or Jones.

if you look at geelong's list most of their important players are aged 24-28... that is the age where players are in their prime... we barely have any in this category, our players are either older or younger for the most part...

by trading jones and mclean, we're just delaying this window of opportunity for us... they must stay on the list...

Since when?

We get 16 or less premiership points we get a pick AFTER the first round.

Where do you get your information?

The rule is if you have 16.5 premiership points over 2 seasons then you get the first round priorty pick, had d**K H**D riley not of won us that game against Carlton and we lost every game this year, we would end up with picks 1 and 2 but we had 20 premiership points at the end of last year

Would we want Rich if we could get Ben Cousins?

Regardless of what he has done off field he is still a superstar player. Midfield of Jones, Brock and Cousins with Naita as ruck would be hard to stop.

The rule is a team gets the priority pick before the 1 round if they dont win more than 8 matches over a two year period ala carlton(2007). If you win less than 5 games in a season you get a priority pick at the end of the first round ala richmond (2007).

Riley was doing his best for his own coaching resume

please tell me YOU wouldnt be trying to win if you had coaching aspirations similar to Riley ?

Might seem a dumb question but maybe someone can enlighten me here. If we finish last this year and win only 4 games next year, do we get the FIRST draft pick in 2009 for sure? Thanks anyone.

Yes, If we won 4 games or less this year.

In that case it goes in order...

Let's say that in 2008 we won 2 games and West Coast won 3... And we came 16th and 15th respectively... (this is also assuming that everyone else, including the Tigers and Blues, won more than 4...) The draft would go:

(First Round) #1: MFC #2: WC ...... (Priority) #17: MFC #18: WC (second Round) #19 MFC #20: WC...

Then in 2009 let's say we won 3 games and WC won 2, (and again, no-one else won less than five) the draft would go...

(Priority) #1: WC #2: MFC (First Round) #3: WC #4: MFC....... (Second Round)#19: WC #20: MFC

Make sense?

Our best case scenario FROM A DRAFTING PERSPECTIVE is to have the Blues and Tigers win more than 4 this year and no-one else win less than 5.

Then next year we win less than 5 again. That way we'll get picks one and two. The only thing is that in that time the chances that no other club will winless than five is slim.

Also... this is all pending the changes being put in place for the new clubs. The AFL hasn't suggested how it will effect priority picks, only how the rounds are arranged...

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
