My tip is:

John Meesan Rd 1. First ruck.

Kyle Cheney Rd 1. No frills, hard worker, tough as nails. Clint Bartram all over again.

Addam Maric Rd 1. To add spice in the fwd line for round 1.

then

Frank Grimes, Cale Morton throughout the year.

Buzz Mcnamara. Next year.

Cale Morton is my tip.

If all goes well, he should play in Round 1, to give him a taste if nothing else.

Also, Maric might replace Yze sooner than we think.

Cheney - Round 12

McNamara - Round 15

Is Round 12 when we start trailing off and 'thinking about the future'?

Id like to see Morton out there next year and I wouldn't be surprised if Marric played a lot of games either. Him as a small forward means Davey can play as an outside midfielder/running half back which I can't wait for!

3 new young'uns, only one of them with any experience in the AFL? No. Morton has the best chance of slipping in after a good pre-season. He would only need to get the pill a few times to have an impact from all accounts. MAYBE Maric given his designation and our lack of tiny dangerous forwards.

big call mate, big call..

Yeah definete big call. If he does all good in the NAB cup i would expect he would line up on the bench. Use Paul Johnson as either defender or forward.

My round 1 prediciton -

Adam 'The Wiz' Maric will be sitting there at the feet of David Neitz at the opening siren, while Sir Cale Morton will come off the bench to thunderous applause about 10 minutes in

Morton - Round 1

Maric - Round 1

Messon - Round 1

Grimes - Round 6

Cheney - Round 12

McNamara - Round 15

I hope that doesn't happen!

That smacks of another injury ruined year where we've put the cue in the rack by round 15.

Morton - Round 1 V Hawthorn

Meeson - Round 1 V Hawthorn

Maric - Round 3 V Geelong

Grimes - Round 12 V Richmond

That smacks of another injury ruined year where we've put the cue in the rack by round 15 - like last year.

Agree BBP.

People get carried away with the expectations of draft day and forget that the players we have drafted are kids whether they are 17 or 18.

Unless we have an injury riddled year, I would expect few to get a consistent run in MFC in 2008.

If Morton is as good as everyone says I think he would be closest.

The big critieria for me is that they firstly settle into the AFL/MFC culture and begin to fulfil the confidence shown in them by CAC.

I hope longer term they become stars for MFC.

Morton to play early in the reason, the rest to stay in the cupboard, developing at Sandy, thanks to no injuries and good form of our senior players.

Totally agree with BBP and Rhino here. If the others play it will be out of necessity, so I hope they don't.

I thought I read somewhere that CAC said Cale Morton was unlikely to play for us this season... he is only 17, so we've drafted him young, and I think he will need a bit of time... however if he's ready, from what we've heard him say already I have no doubt Dean Bailey will give him a go... however I think we're going to have to wait a while to see his talents...

Addam Maric will be the first to play for us i think... the way he plays will translate well into AFL quickly, he's already used to being smaller than everyone else and getting knocked around a bit, so i think we will see him feature quite early in the season...

Grimes would also be a chance you would think, however I think Maric will be the first new draftee to wear the red & blue.... meesen is always a chance to play too...

I think three of the four will be having their 18th birthday next year, so they're still pretty young. I don't really mind if none of them end up playing next year - there are plenty of other young and inexperienced players who have been around longer, and we can't fit them all in.

In the eyes of some if Bailey if he is not playing them in the AFL by Round 1 then he is stalling their development. Its the only qucik fire way to bring a young player on!

I recall when Daniel Bell debuted in 2004, ND said something along the lines of “sometimes, these kids get a game before they are ready”.

Contrast this with Dean Bailey’s views that development is based on getting rookie players to play like 50+ gamers.

The philosophies appear to be at polar opposites. For what its worth, It wouldn’t matter to me either way provided players showing good form at Sandy are rewarded and senior players are not continued to be carried, regardless of injuries. It’s a “horses for courses” scenario.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
