Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

looks shizen, typical melbourne caves in too the requirements of the afl. whats wrong with our traditional jumper? if it clashes with somebody elses let them change.

it just doesnt work like that...the ignorance...the idea sounds good but if we are the away team, id rather us play good footy bieng able to see our team mates even if the jumper isnt that good...there is no need to rebel just for the sake of rebelling...eddie can afford that more than we can...we need to be on the AFL's good side or we could be the next team in the firing line to the gold coast...lets not rebel for the sake of it...its not that bad having to wear a clash strip

It's a clash jumper, you're not being forced to wear it to a Hollywood premier people!

You'll see it 3-4 times a year and you won't give a crap what we're wearing as long as we win. If wearing fluro pink helped us win a flag, I'd be all for it.

Nobody's clash jumper is any good. Either it looks too similar to the normal jumper (see Essendon), or it's altogether ridiculous. At least you can still associate Melbourne with that jumper. It's a bit boring, but it's not the end of the world. And as I said, silver is distinct. Using any other colour with red and blue (unless something hideous like green), would make our jumper too similar to other clubs'.

Absolutely awful

Why not the mainly red one that we use when we must??? Actually looks quite appealing.

Why change?? Where is silver in our heritage (some may say on the spoons in the mouths of some, traditionally).

i can't believe that people think this jumper is worse than the clash jumper we currently use...

if anyone remembers a question in the last advisory session, if the club had to add another colour to our clash strip, which colour would you prefer? i remember voting for silver, and i think they've come through with the goods...

there isn't too much happening, it's sleek yet relatively simple... hope to see the boys wearing it next year

At least it isn't white (avoiding the old jokes about being on the piste Queen's Birthday weekend).

As I understand it, we need a new clash strip due to the change in clothing apparel sponsor.

While it is clearly inferior to our normal jumper, I think the style and use of silver is acceptable as a clash strip. I think the use of silver is preferable to white.

However the club should make sure that its use is restricted to genuine clashes only eg. away against Essendon and Adelaide. I don't consider away clashes against the Swans or St Kilda qualify.

Yes and our is ridiculous! and there is the problem, it does not have to be, but once again a new jumper or logo come in for our club or most other clubs and they hire a bunch of twats who come up with some crap idea and they go with it probably due to spending ridiculous amounts of money on it.

There as so many better options, thats why this is some frustrating. We once again spurn a chance of adding a nice looking clash jumper especially in a year where we should get better media coverage and instead add a top that would stop you looking at the elephant mans face. How the media will love this.

I've got an idea. How about we wear a full white guernsey at all times and go back to being "The Invincible Whites". No clashes, ever, no arguments about design, no scary demons, just a plain vanilla football club.

Is that white or silver, cause I remember the old silver one back in the late '90s and it was awful. White would be better.

Many complaining over a jumper we will wear at 3 or 4 away games. Clubs should be forced to wear clash strips if they are the away team and the jumpers clash - simple as that.

At least its not fluro yellow like Chelsea, now that is bad...

Really does it matter what we think? As far as i can work out the advisory thing is a load of crap! The way every Melbourne supporter that I know votes they go the opposite way so do you think they will care what we think? The Melbourne Football club has a list as long as my arm of putting members/supporters second and I as much as I wish believe it won't change anytime soon...

Oh yeah I hate the jumper to.

Well Spotted JCash!!!! The "Advisory Panel" is a device to make MFC members think they are having input into what the MFC is planning. My bet is that the jumper as an example was already designed & the question in Advisory2 giving other choices including "teal" (not an option with red & blue!!!) was a no brainer set up to get silver as the result (not that will ever see the result).

Clearly the design has been in the works longer than when Advisory 2 done - doesnt that prove the point!!

No doubt part of whole deal with new apparel sponsor is to generate new round of apparel!!

PS old strip had to go!! Cos had the demon head which the chinese and ManU Red Devils dont favour!! (maybe MFC brains trust can sell the demon head logo to Man U?? Or perhaps ManU can just take it as is no longer in use?? I wud have thought a real marketing guru wud look at some tie up between Man U and MFC re use of the demon head logo in some form & given they are Red and we are Red & Blue - some synergies?????

Bit concerned the new strip might not look so good on the ground c.f on concept- as noted bit unbalanced btw top and bottom

4 questions:

1. Why do we need a third colour?

2. Why didn't the advisory panel survey have 'red and blue' as an option?

3. Had silver/white already been chosen as part of away strip by the powers that be?

4. What are our colours again?

we saw the new logo 1st on the Advisory Panel so it would be my guess that the new jumper (while not announced) is probably pretty close to final thing.

note: the initial reaction to the new logo on here was pretty poor but it looks like it has been reasonably well accepted now. I would think it would be fair to say that the same would happen with the alternate strip.

reiterating a few good points,

- it's a clash strip and as a result will need a point/color of difference to differentiate it. For mine silver/white is better than say pink/teal

- it is in line with the new club branding

- it has a much more modern alternative feel than depictions of mythical creatures/beings or

What high level sporting code in the world still has a playing strip with an illustration of their team mascot taking up half of the garment?

my only concern now is that when we sing "keep you eye on the red and the blue" we will be looking at the players middles... at least the club song never had any "demon" references added to it.

We need a third colour because it's a clash strip. It's not the V design on our home jumper that clashes, it's the colours. While a red jumper can avoid some clashes, it doesn't avoid all clashes. A true clash strip needs a colour that is not prominent on the home jumper.

It appears as though they've tried to keep the red V and blue, as this is the basis of the new logo. Even though the red V is thin and off-centre, it still has that Melbourne feel to it with the red V and blue underneath. If anything, it has more in common with our home jumper than our previous away strip.

I like the silver. Most other clubs have white in their clash jumper, and red, white and blue is a Doggies jumper. We had a pre-season jumper with silver in it a while ago and I don't mind silver being the focus of the clash jumper.

If they want to promote melbourne rather than demons and that is why they are changing the jumper, why not just do a red jumper with MFC (like carlton's CFC in the centre).

I don't like the idea of a third colour. It should be red with a small amount of navy blue like the current one IMO

Typical cynical and negative response from you Tony. When was the last time you posted something positive about the club? Your continued negativity and cynicism towards the club has become boring and is unnecessary. Try supporting the club, rather then bagging it at even the smallest of opportunities.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
