Brad Green.... Where to play him in 08?

As we all know this guy can pretty much play anywhere on the ground. But where can he be most effective???

We have seen him on a wing, or a flank with his lovely kick into the forward line. But we know the kid can also mark very well, is it worth having him as a permenant forward, kicking 50 or so a year? or should he be in the guts where we can get more ball use out of him?

??

I'd probably like to see Green running off the back flank or in the midfield at this stage of his career, his experience would help the young fellas in the middle and his kicking improves our delivery into the forward line. Having said that if Neitzy is injured and our forward line is struggling like it did this year I could certainly see Green holding down a spot in the forward line playing out of the square and kicking bags of goals, this is where I can see him playing later in his career in a similar role Brad Johnson plays for the doggies. He showed glimpses of brilliance up forward in his early days.

I also like to see him play in the forward line ala Brad Johnson but then i'll be selling Brad Johnson short. Brad Johnson's a star.

I don't think his possesions hurt enough in the midfield. Shut down player at best.

So IMO his best possie is forward line where i believe he could kick bags.

he's an outside midfielder.. ( with plenty of courage ). he needs some space. He plays the link man to perfection..leave him there.

On the half forward flank, to help keep the ball in the forward line and exert some pressure on opposition defenders when the ball is not marked directly.

He's a lovely mark and kick, but IMO his influence in the midfield is minimal. He will never be a champion midfielder, but he could be a champion half forward.

to me thwere are basically two types of midfielders...those that go in and get the ball..and those to whom its given to to deliver forward..thats Greeny's role I think.. to recieve and move. . No one really plays on the wing or flank so much any more...players just gravitate there as the bal ldoes its "thing ".

Put him in the forward pocket. He has the best lead in the club and his kicking is fantastic. That's where he would hurt the opposition the most.

Plus given he is a leader, he would no doubt chase his opponent, something that is vanishing from our forward line. Some forward pressure is much needed, he can provide it. If there's trouble in the middle, put him there for 5 minutes.

Ideally I'd like Green to play as a forward, but I don't think 2008 is the time to switch him back there, given that we'll still have the likes of Neitz, Robertson, Newton, Yze, Davey, Sylvia and others playing down there. Yze and Neitz will be finished in twelve months time so openings will start to develop up forward. Green's not in TJ's class as a deliver to the forwardline, but then few in the league are. Brad improved this aspect of his game in 2007 I thought, although he still tends to kick the ball too high into the forward 50. I'm happy with him playing in between midfield and the forwardline in 2008, but moving closer to a permanent forward as his career goes on.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
