  1. Jeff Farmer's departure for me, he was an excitement machine at the dees and a player I always loved watching play... in hindsight this departure was made somewhat easier to swallow due to the fact he didn't reach the heights he did with us when he went to Freo... Same with the Woewodin deal. Whilst not a departure the re-ocurring injuries to Stinga and Schwarz in the 90s that kept them from becoming competition elite were pretty devastating.
  2. Really excited about getting Tapscott to the club, was hoping we picked him at 11 but glad he slipped through to 18. Exactly the type of player we need across half forward, tough, imposing, and a massive kick.
  3. Did a search on youtube for 'Max Gawn' and got this? WTF? Is this who we drafted, looks tall enough to be, what is he doing? Haha Anyway anyone got a link to footage of him playing football?
  4. Do we have any picks in the rookie draft? if so which ones? We're obliged to take Newton and Meesen aren't we?
  5. yeah taking the [censored]... Seriously though, Thoughts?
  6. Should we pick him up in the PSD?
  7. Is it possible to delist McNamara and then re-draft him with our first selection in the rookie draft? Not sure what the rules are there around rookie'ing someone who's already been on a senior list? As he was taken as a bottom aged player he is still quite young, i'd rather keep Tom Mac on the list than use pick 34 but if it's possible to have both then why not! There is bound to be a long term injury *touchwood* to someone throughout the season which would give Mcnamara his place back on the senior list if form warrants it.
  8. Count me in, happy to make up the numbers and play a pinch hitting role off the bench up forward or in defence. Cheers.
  9. "Can't remember this much action on the 1st day of trading. Still a bit to come. Our focus is keeping/improving picks, with an eye to the PSD" - Cameron Schwab on Twitter. I like our approach, just sitting back quietly trying to lure someone into the PSD.
  10. I thought he handled himself ok in that interview and didn't take any low blows at the club on his way out unlike Robbo who can't seem to keep his mouth shut. He didn't want to be at the club, that's fine, we moved him on and were compensated fairly. Time will tell who has the last laugh!
  11. There's two sides to this yes we could miss out on draft picks should we win a couple more but imagine how sweeter it will be should we win a flag knowing we never lowered our colours and tanked like a Carlton. Go Dees!
  12. The eagles didn't want to do the Judd deal either but had no choice. The draft pick and Bell offer was just an example. The point is that snaring a young ready made (and let's be honest the go home factor is as good a reason as any to identify a potential trade target) could potentially put the whole rebuild process for us forward a year.
  13. What are the chances of the dees getting in his ear and trying to lure him back to Vic with a big offer. Would love for us to aggresively chase a player like Dangerfield in the trade period. Pick 16 or whatever it is we end up with and Daniel Bell would be a good win for us IMO, they got Scotty Thompson off us in what would have been similar circumstances. Any other young guns we could be targetting that would slot into our top 22 and fill an immediate gap? I realize this is highly unlikely but imagine getting picks 1 and 2 and someone ready made like Dangerfield.
  14. Bit broke this week but bumped my donation up to $25 - DN122888
  15. Hmm sounds like a similar plan our former coach had with one Brad Miller - that worked out well didn't it? Give him a position and let him own it, we already know he has what it takes to play back if he's not required there then leave him as a forward so the bloke can learn the trade, chopping and changing positions 4-8 times a game won't help his development IMO.
  16. Jamar's playing for his career, the second half of the season will show us if he has anything to offer moving forward! Personally I think he could be of value but needs to have more impact around the ground, get more of the footy, hurt the opposition etc but i'm sure we and Jamar are all aware of this. I.m looking forward to seeing the Russian back out on the park. He's a massive dude he should just go out their and smash heads.
  17. What other dees players are people considering? I have Grimesy down back already and Spencer as a 4th ruck (I figure he will be playing by years end and at 83k it's all you need to spend on a 4th ruck). The only other dee im considering is Morton as a 5th midfield option his kicking hurts his efficiency from time to time but he does kick goals and knows how to find the footy, I hope his teammates will actually see him waving his arms around in plenty of space out on the wings this year then he'll rack up even more possies. Apart from those three I can't really see myself taking the risk on anyone else at this stage... maybe Benell, Jetta or Bail as a rookie Midfield emergency but there are probably better options. I considered Ricky P but he's a big risk with injuries the blokes just to courageous (if that's possible) throwing himself into every contest means he'll prob be injured 50% of the year, hope that's not the case though.
  18. A couple of thoughts and observations from today's game... Grimes will be a 200+ game player barring injuries very composed down back. Bail will play regular senior footy this year, very tidy with his disposal and know's how to find the footy. Benell will be in our best 22 by years end without doubt showed good run from the back end. Sylvia is a tease. Jetta showed some real glimpses and will get a few senior games this year. Newton is the worst player I have seen in a dees jumper, well until i saw Meeson today... man what a donkey. Our more established midfielders need to lift if we are to win more than 4-5 games this year... Mclean, Jones, Moloney this means you. Our no name defence held together quite well under pressure. All in all some good signs today in what was a bit of a nothing game but when you look at who were playing a win shouldn't have been out of the question.
  19. my mate swannie who i mentioned earlier is now a confirmed starter!
  20. I'll come along for another run to help make up the numbers. A friend may be joining me - Swannie (TBC)
  21. I just got a fantastic email in my inbox which was personalised, encouraging me to buy my membership (I'm getting one for xmas which is why I haven't got it yet). The email read along the lines of we just recruited the number one draft pick Jack Watts the next recruit we need is 'Earles' (my last name). I thought this was great marketing and something I haven't seen from the club before, anyone else get this? I'm really impressed with where the club is heading and the improved focus on marketing the club at every opportunity. This email has come on the back of an exciting weekend where we drafted some really promising kids and the personalised touch will grab alot of people and up memberships. Great work MFC.
  22. Hey Guys, Just confirming I am right for Sunday - my fitness levels have not improved from last year so I will be a bit parts player coming in where needed, most effective around goals.
  23. I think the comparison of Garland to Scarlett is a little off the mark I think Garland Silvagni is a better one. I saw a lot of similarities in the way garland played in the last half of the season to how sos played, similar agility and closing speed. I would definitely be leaving Col in the backline, undecided on Martin though thought he showed a lot in the backline so wouldn’t be against building a solid back half around Garland and Martin.
