Brad Green.... Where to play him in 08?

Featured Replies

As we all know this guy can pretty much play anywhere on the ground. But where can he be most effective???

We have seen him on a wing, or a flank with his lovely kick into the forward line. But we know the kid can also mark very well, is it worth having him as a permenant forward, kicking 50 or so a year? or should he be in the guts where we can get more ball use out of him?

??

oh ... just about anywhere within 60m of 37. 49' 12" , 144. 59" will do !!! lol B)

I'd probably like to see Green running off the back flank or in the midfield at this stage of his career, his experience would help the young fellas in the middle and his kicking improves our delivery into the forward line. Having said that if Neitzy is injured and our forward line is struggling like it did this year I could certainly see Green holding down a spot in the forward line playing out of the square and kicking bags of goals, this is where I can see him playing later in his career in a similar role Brad Johnson plays for the doggies. He showed glimpses of brilliance up forward in his early days.

I also like to see him play in the forward line ala Brad Johnson but then i'll be selling Brad Johnson short. Brad Johnson's a star.

I don't think his possesions hurt enough in the midfield. Shut down player at best.

So IMO his best possie is forward line where i believe he could kick bags.

daniher tried him forward, he was crap, very little return in terms of goals. a great mark, and a great kick.

in having said that, he shold be on the FF

He really is just another play that hasn't hit the expectations everyone had for him. Hopefully Bailey doesn't take any of that crap and gets the best out of him

he's an outside midfielder.. ( with plenty of courage ). he needs some space. He plays the link man to perfection..leave him there.

On the half forward flank, to help keep the ball in the forward line and exert some pressure on opposition defenders when the ball is not marked directly.

He's a lovely mark and kick, but IMO his influence in the midfield is minimal. He will never be a champion midfielder, but he could be a champion half forward.

I like the wing for Brad - a goal kicking wingman.

This year he again was played in numerous positions - forward, back, run with roles and should become a better player for it... however it is now time for him to make a position his own.. and the wing is it!

to me thwere are basically two types of midfielders...those that go in and get the ball..and those to whom its given to to deliver forward..thats Greeny's role I think.. to recieve and move. . No one really plays on the wing or flank so much any more...players just gravitate there as the bal ldoes its "thing ".

Agree play in TJ's role. Kick into F50.

HF: Bate Newton Green

F: Davey Neitz Robbo

Put him in the forward pocket. He has the best lead in the club and his kicking is fantastic. That's where he would hurt the opposition the most.

Plus given he is a leader, he would no doubt chase his opponent, something that is vanishing from our forward line. Some forward pressure is much needed, he can provide it. If there's trouble in the middle, put him there for 5 minutes.

Ideally I'd like Green to play as a forward, but I don't think 2008 is the time to switch him back there, given that we'll still have the likes of Neitz, Robertson, Newton, Yze, Davey, Sylvia and others playing down there. Yze and Neitz will be finished in twelve months time so openings will start to develop up forward. Green's not in TJ's class as a deliver to the forwardline, but then few in the league are. Brad improved this aspect of his game in 2007 I thought, although he still tends to kick the ball too high into the forward 50. I'm happy with him playing in between midfield and the forwardline in 2008, but moving closer to a permanent forward as his career goes on.

I think you will find Bailey will use him as an attacking Half Back

i like the idea of green and bruce getting the easy possesions from the hard work of brock, sylvia and jones and using their super skills to drill it into the forward line

Back-Flank

I like him on half back, great mark and kick, good reader of the play so can chop off attacks and courageous.

I think with TJ gone he'll play that attacking half-back role.

as he's done in the last couple of seasons... playing on the wing, and dropping back into the hole helping out the backline...

Now TJ is gone Green should be in the midfield

LOOSE MAN IN DEFENCE.

Been saying it for years now.

It is his calling.

He can be like Brendan Goddard.

Yep. Done and done.

If the radar is back in (it did seem to be improving again) then I'd also like to see him out there for maximum minutes, by using him for the occassional stint as a marking target inside 50m.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
