nobody know how he's travelling ?

I feel bad cos nobody has replied to your question! Hate when that happens.

So I'll say that I'd also like to know.. I'm really hoping injuries won't let him down again cos when he's good, he's very good.

Guess we'll soon find out when all the pre-season training starts..

In my opinion we wont be seeing much more of him, and he will be delisted at the end of the year. Its a shame, and a waste of talent, but the young man has been ravaged by OP and we may have seen the last of Beamer in full flight.

Moloney is too good of a player to just let go.

Give him time.

are u insane? he has the potentual to be a regular 22 player....and someone capable of being in the top 3 B&F each year. He is the sort of player we need...someone who can burst the packs. We didnt give up Thompson for nothing. I would be giving it 3 years to see, then perhaps go down the road of delisting but by then he will know himself and retire most likely.

My brother, who is studying exercise science, and is a bit of a fitness nut, assures me that it is possible to, through strict, regular, and specific, exercise, render a player immune (or near enough) to OP (even if he has previously suffered it), but to do so is very time consuming and may detract from other areas, such as skills training.

I have little doubt (even with Bohdan) that the club know what they are doing to manage Moloney, but I would happily sacrifice his skills to get him up and running again. I would hate to see us give up on him before exhausting all the possibilities, because I love watching the bloke in full flight. Never a subtle footballer, but a real battering ram of a midfielder with a booming kick on him.

Please, Im not endeavoring to be mischeivious in this thread ,just genuinely inerested. I really like this bloke when he plays. He's no nonsense, knows where to 1) get the ball 2) what to do with it. He delivers into the forward line with such explosion :) and then there's the dreaded OP. It just worries me that even if we can get him somewhat fit , will we be able to get him match fit and if so how long will it last. And all that is purely form a standpoint of what we ( as a club ) get out of him but at what expense ? I really hate to think it would have much longer term ramifications to hs general health.

Id love to see Beamer rip it up for us. Between say Him, a switched on Brocky and Jonesy.. we have one formidable clearance machine. I just have this sick gut feeling we wont see Beamer again and if a hard decision needs to be made , one that values him as a person as well as any potential contributions then it s better sooner rather than later

so if theres any real knowledge of where he's at.. am sure we'd all appreciate it :)

cheers

I don't know much, but what I do know is next year is the last year of his current contract. Should he have another injury-plagued year, I would think the club would definitely look at trading him (Even though he is my favourite player and has been since he came to the club).

When fully fit and given he's still relatively young so has improvement left I think he could be a very good player for us, but I just hope he can get over OP.

I would hope he's training before Christmas and gets a full preseason in, because mark my words if he does he'll be a very, very good player for us.

Posted

Id suggest if he cant get fully fit with us then he has no trade value and thats it...career over

Am hoping he can overcome it.. love watching him carve through the guts.

if not fit.. he'll need to be delisted.. just a reality :(

Only 24 next year, MCG suits his style.

Win hard ball, run 15 metres and kick it 55 metres. Early on he was our most competitive players, always getting rubbed down at 3 qtr time though, played hurt and still contributed.

And then he just couldn't go anymore. Cannot wait for him to come back, hopefully he will have a solid season next year.

But you have to keep in mind that he's missed alot of footy over the last two years and deserves to work his way slowly back into it.

Posted

I have no problem with him coming back slowly...if he can come back. If good and prudent management can get him back on the track oand on the turf in a manner where he can continue to contribute in his wonderful way.. "halelujah " my concern is he may not be able to overcome his OP etc. basically rendering him a non-starter. If so its only reasonable to assume he wont be playing footy...anywhere.

if there's a god after the judas debacle, then we deserve Beamer back :)

Posted

Beamer not one to give up too easily. If there is a way to overcome OP completely, I haven't heard it. It will take strict fitness and ab strengthening etc. Luke Ball is struggling, Sylvia again, Powell lost a year or to.

I just hope we give him every opportunity, I really rate him. Biased I know, and the added fact that he was a Dees supporter as a kid might be clouding my judgement, but he really is a great competitor.

Posted

I rate him too.. highly. would be marvellous to see the three Amigos ( McLean, Moloney and Jones ) do some damage in the name of the Red and Blue !!!! the oppositions wont know which way to look or go !! :) ( but Im biased too )

Another year out of the game and I think the opportunities for Beamer to return to the game are limited. he has not played consistent senior footy since 2005

Absence makes the heart grow fonder about how good Moloney was.

His first season with MFC was promising. However he had a number of aspects he needed to work opn including his decision making with the ball and defensive skills when he does not have it.

I hope he returns but I am not confident.

The bottom line wirth OP is that there is no surefire cure for it and each OP case is treated individually. His position out could be open ended.

Certainly was promising; he finished 4th in B&F in 2005 as a 21 yr old.

I don't think it is a matter of absence making the heart grow fonder, i think it's the opposite: many are forgetting how good he was before he was cruelled by OP.

If we don't see our charge for 2 or 3 yrs, we can afford to persist with him and get his body right.

love to watch this kidd play...... gets the ball, breaks some tackles, kicks a 40-50 meter pass into someones hands..

The way the game should be played.... doesnt [censored] round with it, or fall back into the melbourne ways of making sure they hand pass it to each other 45 times before looking to kick

Cant wait to see the boy back...

one of my fav players. but doesn't seem that fussed about his injuries when i see him on the odd case i make it to the rooms. I would think some one of his skill been injured as much as he has would be more anoyed than what i see.

He cant train nor play with no timeline for recovery and is not fussed by his injuries. You are kidding?? Its quite the opposite when I have spoken with him in other places. He plays a poker face in the rooms.

If we don't see our charge for 2 or 3 yrs, we can afford to persist with him and get his body right.

By what measure can we afford a player who has missed so much football?

AFL is a demanding and unforgiving game and I would be surprised that a player can miss 2 and possibly more years out of the game and return. Moloney was promising but he was by no means elite and could ill afford to miss so much footy.

Posted

I agree with that. I remember Moloney being the predictable player who would bomb the ball forward 55 metres every time.

It was great initially until teams worked him out, zoned back and cut it off.

I'll still have him in my 22 but he needs to get on the park and lower his eyes.

I'm confident our teams not as bad as ppl may portray.

Posted

What? Thats why he was soo effective.. cause he could pass long, not chip around with it, he could pass long 45-50 meters and hit a target.

no one is saying he was/is the comensurate footballer. But what he has we sorely miss. his game would evolve with more time.. better play options up forward and a new coaching regime.

His injuries have prevented him obviously from progressing.

Love to see him back on the park !! :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
