If we loose Travis Johnstone and Pick 4 we have been totally ripped off!!

With pick 4 we would have a virtually guarenteed A grade player and Travis is already a proven match winner and most importantl player we have IMO and in his prime. Judd is good dont get me wrong but not worth that much!!! I know everyone is Judd crazy but seriously that would bea huge mistake. TJ should be untouchable. Id rather loose a Bruce or Green.

Judd and TJ would be an amazing duo in the midfield...both brilliant in such different ways...they would be unstoppable and finally TJ wouldnt get the number 1 tag each week which would enable him to flourish!

PLEASE MFC KEEP TJ! Get Judd some other way....

yeh excitement wise id still rather the frawley trade instead of the petterd or TJ one... but we will be spewing if Frawley ends up a gun key back and we trade him while TJ keeps underperforming even with Judd.... i love Tj i have always stuck up for him and believe he has shown much more leadership as of late..... really hope we can keep him!!!

agree that bruce and green id trade before TJ, especially Bruce, the guy is way overrated cant even kick properly since about 2004???

TJ AND JUDD MMMMMM but yeh not looking good:(

From what 7 reported, TJ is a willing participant in the trade talks, maybe he wants to leave, TJ is good, but over the last 10 years should have been much much better, has never lifted to the heights he should have.

Wasn't Aaron Fiora pick four !

Pick four doesn't always guarantee you a good player. Chris Judd is a generational player. Pick four and TJ for a once in a generation superstar. Where do I sign.

Don't get me wrong I love Trav and think he is the most skilled player we have, but he is not getting the most out of his talent and maybe a change would be good for him. Anyway the pain I would feel losing him would be outweighted by my immense joy of seeing Judd in red and blue.

TJ and #4 is a fair deal. We are trying to trade for the best player in the game. We are always going to have to give up our top pick and at least one of our better players. Would take this any day of the week over the rivers deal (that is a rip-off). TJ has been a talented player, and it would hurt to see him leave, but if it means we land CJ, then he has to go

As silky as TJ'S skills are, he's still a very lazy player at times. I dont think we've still seen the best of him and he's 28.You cant give up Frawley because we dont have a backline as it is.I'd rather see Bruce go but if the deals been done I'd be happy to get a 24 year old proven gun!

I doubt it will be enough and if it is it's a bargain.

Judd will go down as one of the greatest players of all time. He's certainly the most explosive player I've ever seen. If he plays for the MFC for 150 games I'll be amazed if he doesn't finish his career as the greatest to have ever pulled on the red and blue. I'm not sure if some on here realise how good he is.

The MFC haven't had a franchise player since the AFL's inception in 1990. Not one. We need one. The significance of recruiting Judd is monumental. Not only on the field, but off it. Our membership will increase, our crowds will increase, our attraction to sponsors will increase, our merchandise sales will increase. The positive psyche of the club will increase.

If Judd comes to Melbourne he'll drag me through the gate when I feel half hearted about going. If we're playing interstate I'll make an effort to be there. We'll have 8-10 years of arguably the greatest midfielder of all time.

Pick 4 may turn out to be a great player, but the chances of him being a Judd, Carey, or Matthews are virtually non existent.

TJ is as good as gone if you ask me, irrespective of the Judd situation. Wherever Judd goes, I think you can safely bet your pay packet on TJ being elsewhere next season. Which is good, if you ask me. If we don't get Judd, I'd love to get another top 10 pick.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the Judd trade reported on channel 7 like this:

Johnstone & another yet to be named Melbourne player to Sydney

Jolly and pick 11 to Melbourne

Picks 4, 11 & 21 to WCE for Judd

Gain: Judd & Jolly

Lose: Johnstone, pick 4 & Pick 21 and another player

Now put like this it appears a massive win but the ??? is who is the second demon. In reality I think Johnstone for pick 11 is a massive win for us, Johnstone would be worth about pick 17-21 in my estimation which would mean we are being compensated to accept Jolly. That is obviously highly unlikely which makes me think the second Demon would have to be some one of quality and not a Brad Miller or Mark Jamar.

Also thinking that Sydney might be eying one more crack at a premiership with an aging list the probable targets for mine would be:

Green

Davey

Bruce

White

or similar...

That was the deal, even tho no one else could probably stomach it, I would be happy with Jolly and Meesan as our ruck combination for the future.

Shattered if we loose travis, he's my fav player, but the juice is worth the squeeze.

A few thoughts. The talent available on this year's draft apparently doesnt compare to the last few with a few obvious exceptions.

Travis Johnstone was a high draft pick who hasnt - for my mind performed. His played some great games, but anyone who says that he is more vital to our team than James MacDonald or Cameron Bruce are on some pretty hefty drugs.

When the gong gets tough =- quite often in this last season Trav has tended to go the soft option. No One can suggest that Junior on the other hand has ever gone teh soft option - Trav could have been a star - perhaps under a new coach he will still be one.

For mine I would say that the later two are about the only safe players other than Neitz purely because of his age.

Brent Moloney was pick 4 2003 to Geelong

Travis Johnstone was pick 1 1997

Brock McClean pick 5 2003

Colin Sylvia pick 3 2003

Nathan Jones pick 12 1st round 2005

Cam Bruce 1999 National AFL 5th round selection (Melbourne) No. 64 overall.

Jared Rivers 2002 National AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Melbourne) No.26 overall

Brad Green 1999 pick 19

Matthew Bate pcik 13 2004

A lot of pretty high draft picks. Moloney has been injured, but could you say that Travo, Sylvia have performed when compared to Brucey, Rivers and Bater.

.

Moloney was a preseason draft pick...

but ur point still holds true.

pick 4 guerentees nothing. espeically in this draft, pick 1-3 are certain (Morton,Cotchin and Kruiser) while there are about 5 players who are good enough for pick 4.

Johnstone has had only 1 top10 in bestnfairest in 9 seasons. that is so farkin pathetic for a player of his talent.

If we get the best player in the afl for a talented but inconsistent midfielder and a pick that guerentees nothing we would be laughing!

Not true. He was part of the Brad Ottens to Geelong trade. It was 3-way with Richmond, and I don't remember what we parted with, but i do know with absolutely certainty that he was not acquired via the PS draft.

You misunderstood me.

when he was drafted orignially he was drafted in the PSD (i.e. he wasnt picked up in the national, and geelong picks him up as a youngster in the PSD).

We got Moloney in a 3 way trade: Scott Thompson to Adelaide, pick 12 to Geelong, Moloney to MFC. We got [censored] ripped off. Thompson is now a star at adelaide, and moloney has OP

I think he meant that Geelong originally picked him up in the psd. We swapped pick 12 for him that we received via Adelaide from the Eagles.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
