NOBODY desreved to become the first 300 game player at the Demons more than the legendary David Neitz

I'm not sure if he deserved it more, but he deserved it just as much as Neita. Robbie Flower was an out and out champion. Deserved a Brownlow and to be premiership captain.

Neita deserved to be premiership captain too. Ahh, there's no such things as fairy tales. Not with the MFC anyway.

It would be great if the boys got over the line for him, that would be the 'Cinderella story' of the season if we got up for Neita.

For one of the Anzac day games up in Sydney I ended up roughly behind the goals and had a great time watching Neitz kick a bag (and Greeny cutting across the 50m line like some kind of single-minded predator - how much do we all want to see that again).

What made it so much fun, even though I think we lost, was that early in the game Neitz missed a shot and some clown started shouting "you're s**t Neitz" every time he came near the ball. Six goals later people were echoing the shout right back at the pratt who'd started it.

Could a 'Neitz appreciation thread' be the only place where everyone on here will agree?

The big fella just brings the whole club together.

Apart from hs bags of 6+ goals from the post above, he has also booted

- 5 goals on 13 occassions

- 4 goals on 23 occassions

Therefore, he has booted 4+ goals in 66 of his 299 games

I estimate he has played between 70-80 games in the backline. Not sure how close I am, but I used this page to help me http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players...avid_Neitz.html

Simply put...

Neitz = Awesome

Couldn't agree more! its been fantastic over the last 10ish years to have neitz to barrack for! I always remember neita placing CHB on carey and not only shutting him out but kicking 5 of his own goals! And the St Kilda game - 8 goals of which 5 were kicked from outside 50m! Lets hope he can rest up over the offseason and have a good year next year he deserves to go out in style and not go out battling against knee/hamy/finger problems.

Keep on punching Neita!

There are not a lot of words that can do justice to the service David Neitz has given to our football club.

Through good times and bad (more bad it seems), Neita has always stood up as the inspirational captain that he is. He has carried our team, leading by example, always dignified, always humble.

He is one player we could always rely on, whether it be to kick a winning goal, or deliver a crushing body blow to an opponent. His strength of character and mind have never failed him, even when his body and teammates have.

Our club has seen 149 seasons, 12 premierships, countless number of players, but there has only been one David Neitz and there will never be another like him!

I hope that all Melbourne supporters turn up in numbers this Friday night, to pay tribute to one of our greatest, and show him the support that he so richly deserves. If he never wins a premiership, lets make this an unforgettable night for our champion.

Congratulations on 300 magnificent games!

He has an ominous record when it comes to them.

2005 against the Cats - It was his 250th game and he kicked 5 that night, including his 500th goal

2006 against the Hawks - Broke the club goalkicking record and crapped all over a pitiful Hawks defence with a lazy 6

2006 against the Saints - It was either the MFC games record or games as captain record he broke IIRC and he booted 8 in a dominant display against the Saints

His 300th this week against the Pies, are we due for another Neita show?

Well done to your kids Deesrock. you certainly must be a proud parent. Good luck and an honor to cheer on the big man on the ground

Congratulations Neita!!!

Words cannot do justice to what he has given the club over the last 15 years. He holds almost every club record and has been the glue that has held the side together for the best part of a decade. Has never really had a career slump. How many players have been All Australian at CHB and FF? While one can laud Neita by pointing out his stats, awards and records, for me the most impressive thing about him has been the way he has captained the side the last 8 years.

I remember in early 2000 when the captaincy was out of Neitz and Scwartz most people thought Schwarz was the better candidate. Even after leading us to a grand final in his first year as captain many people questioned his leadership. I was one of these people and felt that he didn't have enough of a presence on the field and did not do enough to lead from the front. However, with every passing year Neita has excelled in this area and it would be a foolish man to suggest that he is not one of the most inspiring captains in the league these days. I still remember Gary Lyon's game agains Richmond in 1997 the first game after Balme was sacked. I though I would never see a more inspirational piece of captaincy than his effort to play that day, but Neitz's effort against Essendon this year would have to be right up there. While most of us here have never had the pleasure of seeing a premiership we can take some small comfort in the fact that we have seen a true champion of the Melbourne Football Club.

When the Melbourne team of the century was announced David Neitz had not done enough to warrant inclusion. However, if a best team ever was done next year as part of the 150th year celebrations the question wouldn't be whether Neitz would get in, but rather where would he line up. Would have to be a chance to displace Norm Smith from full forward.

Thats awesome! i might run out on the ground and join in, think they will let me??? :)

Actually as the night has gone on I have gone from being really excited for the kids to being a bit peed off - why can't I do it too????

Can't wait for the big night now - so hoping the boys can pull this off for Neita. He fully deserves to celebrate this milestone with a HUGE win!

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
