Petty kicking practice?!

Not sure he needs to practice his kicking. Might be better to learn control his mind. Looked like anxiety related to me. His mindset was bad all day. You knew he was going to turn that ball over as soon as it was kicked to him. No surprise this happened against Brisbane...

TOMORROW! Let’s talk flaws/mistakes/whatever tomorrow.

Please don’t kill the buzz.

What's the name of the post, how about you don't reply then if it bothers you.

From The Age:

'The Demons had exploded in the third quarter with six goals, as they took every chance inside 50 kicking accurately to hurt the Lions on the scoreboard. At one point they had kicked 10 goals straight from set shots via marks inside 50. They finished with 12 goals straight from 12 set shots.'

Unbelievable.

And this is why I'd take what Langford does over Oliver at the moment. I know that Langford has a bit of catching up to do with what Clayton achieved, but give me langfords 3 goals and his 27 possessions today. He barely wasted one & after his first fumble he barely put a foot wrong

The good thing is the backline immediately knew something was wrong & called the medical staff straight away

Knowing us, the tribunal will cite and convict both Pickett and Mihocek, and they'll be sentenced to 10 years hard labour in the salt mines.

Its a great sign of a good coach where they can get better performances out of players they inherit

Langdon playing his best season since 21. I thought he was heading for a de-listing but he has been excellent.

Chin playing very well

blake howes a big improver

sharp and sparrow performing much better

Credit to the fitness staff too. There are going to be lapses with a young side but generally we seem to be running out games strong.

Chin is getting deserved love but Lingers really stood up today. A cool head at pivotal moments.

Cannot emphasise this enough. In our wins at the G we look like we have 19 on the field as we continuously have the outnumber at the contest, behind the ball and forward of the play. This is often the hallmark of an ELITE side. Geelong were the masters of it during 2007 to 2011.

We are making good decisions and our ace in the pack in King's GPS data. Best example today was Sharp kicking the ball out of a pack to Latrelle on a half back flank, who sprinted away, passed to Kozzie who also sprinted down the wing and kicked it to.. Sharp. I'm sorry what? You freak. Intelligent ball use, vision and hand fast running to create options (and defend). Just fantastic football.

Tom morris is a genuine [censored] - tried to set kingly up for a “gotcha” moment 4 or 5 times in the post match.

The MCC members were going off with every goal. They were swinging their scarves around and around with the jig. It looked fabulous.

Uhm, if I may, point of order…

I expected us to win!!! I expect us to win every week coz you know why? Because it’s possible, that’s why. As our former coach said to me just before he was sacked… “Every week, at the first bounce, both teams are on 0.0.00”

More like you thought we could win. I don't know how you can expect it after the Essendon game?

Steven King post-game. He said he was too “outcome focussed” last weekend and he owned that in front of the group.

This week they got back to the process & didn’t drown in opposition analysis given Brisbane’s talent. King said they’ll continue to investigate the Petty concussion.

I can’t avoid reading it. It does bother me to read it, so I replied. I asked nicely to leave off until tomorrow the negatives that come from this game. It’s not a huge ask. But you do you, fellah.

So we focussed too much last week on what Essendon were doing and not just playing our own game? Is that what this means?

It's a shame Jefferson missed his set shot because I liked his game otherwise. Easily his best game so far.

Needs to take confidence from it. Keep presenting and putting in body contact and he'll be OK.

4 specific critical goal assists was very good, included were 2 excellent contested marks. King needs to say to him,... Son I'm backing you come what may for the next month or two, give yourself a chance!

Jim was certainly helping when Lions player marked on the line, played on and kicked a goal. Umpire called for review of mark, had to go back and take his kick. Passed to a teammate who missed. The luck of the Irish there!

No luck there that will be always checked to see if it's over the line or not, just like the Petty touched before the line

From my vantage point, Langdon, Langford & Kolt were standouts. A lot of grunt work

The way we're playing lends itself to the odd turnover, as we're taking risks

But never mind, if we're going to get to contention status, risks must be taken

Healthy crowd too (41k)

And our overall skills have improved out of sight. Especially the kicking to position. Up to 20 metres, 8/10, and the 40-50 metre kicks are rapid, drop punts that spin well for the forwards

JVR just needs to believe in himself as he could be a star of the game

It was his work up the ground that impressed me most. Some very good work in the contested on the wings.

I often got him confused with Howes as they are number buddies and have the similar laconic nature about them. Both were great today.

Tholstrup continuing to get better by the week, had some big moments late especially the long kick exiting the defensive 50 under extreme pressure taking a big hit and couldn’t have hit the kick any better! Could really turn into our next Angus Brayshaw can play all over the park but more importantly really buys into being the cultural guy that gets around everyone both on and off the field to create a united group that everyone wants to be a part of!

I guess so. Apparently he said it in his presser

Does that put an end to the Tholstrup knocking?

He was very, very good. He's obviously highly rated by the coaches to be biting off kick-ins up the guts.

Jeffo competed well and got himself into position to take marks ... just needs to start holding them. He worked hard to get to the front position. He might be alright

Despite the tall forward line, we teamed well up forward and worked hard to keep the ball in play up forward

The Lions had to work hard to get the ball forward from about 70-80 metres from their goals. Our defensive pressure was very good and we made them look quite vulnerable at times

It was a great comeback win as we looked in trouble at half time

We'll learn a lot from this win ... perseverance & belief

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
