GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Essendon

Tmac having a bad one.

But our accuracy and their lack of ...is the world of difference

T-Mack struggling with May, might need to switch with Turner

Would love a couple more this quarter.

Lucky we’ve been accurate (and they have been a little wasteful), otherwise this would be uncomfortably level score wise.

Got to be cleaner around the ground and stay focused for the second half.

Death.

Taxes.

Melbourne struggling against Essendon in Gathering Round.

Dreadful last 10 minutes with Gawn in hero ball mode and plenty of others following his lead.

i'm going to have to mute gary lyon. he is too painful to listen to

…Super important to take chances

And it’s really disheartening that we are in this tussle (again) with this team. Win or gulp lose, having to battle these duds is lame.

Last 5minutes complacency has set in. Guys preserving themselves. There’s more bombers around the ball in vision than there is demons.

There is still a soft underbelly all about this going for safety and not going for it.

Van Rooyen.... back to Casey, Jeffo or Kentfield time!

A one man veil of negativity.

That was pathetic from us. Lots of work to do in the second half if we are to win this game.

T. Mac.. cooked

Kicking the ball off the ground and not picking the ball up. Pffft.

Soft tendencies.

We have so many tall defenders that Petty is spending half his time forward. Is this the set-up we really want?

Going forward, when ready, one of him or McDonald go out and Kentfield/Jefferson play forward.

Lever, Salem, McDonald, Turner, Howes are all very one pace. Teams with mid/smalls with pace cause enormous problems. Xav Taylor gets a gig soon surely?

Bombers have a sniff now. Just one good quarter away from ending their losing streak.

Dees have to stand up. If not for Melksham - for themselves. Their fans. Dees will be known as the Bombers [censored] on Adelaide Oval. Their bunny.

I have Bolting Blue in race 1 Werribee, should run well, would be a great double with the Dees.

An injured Bowey would be so much more valuable than Salem.

Just get the win Dees. Doesn’t have to be pretty.

Shocking display, look slow and lethargic. Not to mention how poor with the ball.

Time to start boys or enjoy gather round curse and being Essendon as first win..

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
