GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Essendon

Pre-breakfast game for me with a 5.15 ball up. It will all be over in time for a celebratory coffee. Good way to start the weekend (I hope).

Pretty confident we will get the 4 points. We are a different team to the one from seasons past that would usually drop a game like this.

I think we win by 7/8 goals.

Gees, I’m impressed. I sound confident!

Go Dees!

What an opportunity hey?

4 & 1 staring us in the face ... a win and we might be a contender (maybe)

A loss and it's another re-start

Seize the day!

Of all the teams I hate.
I hate Essendon the most.
Must win game.

Are you serious?? You hate them more than the filth??

Beating Essendon in Gather Round for a change, won’t that be the sch!ttt. Beating Essendon period, for that matter.

Words can’t adequately express how I feel about Essendon. There aren’t adjectives in our lexicon that can sufficiently convey the intense hatred I have for them. In the absence of such this will have to suffice:

GO OUT THERE AND GIVE ‘EM SHEER HELL DEES!

MAKE THEM SUFFER LONG AND HARD.

GIVE THEM 120 MINUTES OF PAIN AND HUMILIATION.

Us by any margin, the bigger the better.

15yo me is hoping the fat slags who bullied her mercilessly at school are at the match today sitting in torrential rain watching their team get brutally taken apart by the mighty Dees.

I certainly do! And I’m sure me and Fork ‘em aren’t the only ones who do.

I don’t just hate them more than I hate the Filth, there’s daylight. There’s 10 Lapland summers worth of daylight.

If we have to drop a match I’d sooner lose to Collingwood than Essendon.

Essendon are a poor team and I reckon will be wooden spooners this year

But every dog has its day and for some reason they have the wood over us during gather round

We need to be ready and switched on from the get-go. Don’t give these suckers an even break. They have no answers for Max and Kossie. Or for our pressure.

Unless we get complacent, we should win this comfortably.

Dees by 30-50 points

This will be closer than you think. Dee’s by 137 points.

I’ll be happy with a “WIN”!

However a 137 point win would make me De - lirously’ happy!

Your 15yo note gives your hatred context but the filth and Maynard honestly 💩🤮🤮🤮

I think we'll win, but this will be an interesting watch. Most teams this year have played "keepings off" with Essendon recording huge uncontested mark tallies. We're a low disposal but highly efficient team. If we win clearance and inside 50s I think we win. I think Brad Scott may try and play keepings off against us (they had 160 marks against us last gather round), although that hasn't been their style this year. Thankfully there's no Jy Menzie (now delisted) running around to kick 4 goals against us...

Hoping for no rain - I feel that always favours the opposition.

I also hate sitting in the rain :.)

Looking ok outside for the moment - fingers crossed we are allowed to use our skill and it’s not a slog fest like the other games.

There's a beautiful expression that "the opposite of love isn't hate, it is indifference".

Collingwood are an enemy, a toxic liability to Australian football, a combination of grotty inbred sneering inferiority and the unaccoubtability of the rich moron shielded by family lawyers and devoid of civic virtue. It is a duty of all football supporters to do harm to the Collingwood football club.

Essendon are an inconvenience. With due respect to Ghosty's personal glorious vendetta, success this week is to play our way, earn the four points and move on.

Fact is, if Essendon were dropped from the AFL the only thing we'd miss would be the memes.

Demons by 50 with the coach putting the focus on winning every quarter and learning to not let inferior teams get a look in.

Essendon on the canvas and the Dees with expectations to win. What could possibly go wrong.

This is the game that will start to show me how much our mental fragility has strengthened. Last year we lose this.

Interested to see how much we back up our manic pressure from last week from the get go this week.

Also how we choose to use Melksham (congrats on 250) and Fritsch together and what it does to the forward dynamic.

I’m not sure about anyone else but im very nervous for today’s game. I’m not sure if it’s because we haven’t beaten Essendon the last few times we’ve played them in gather round or how there were the games we were expected to win under Goodwin and dropped. Please dees don’t get complacent, I know we can beat them but again these are the games we would always drop the last few years. Go Dees

It will be interesting to see if a wet deck and heavy pill have any effect on our capacity to run at speed.

I have a feeling that complacency may have played a part in our first qtr against Freo. I'm hoping they haven't lost the eye of the tiger!

I hate the pies and Essendon equally

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
