PREGAME: Rd 03 vs Carlton

Featured Replies

Not sure what to expect. I think its a coin toss as to who wins. Dees looked awesome against the Saints but were outclassed by Freo last week. Blues have been stuttering playing two good quarters then woeful 3rd and 4th quarters in the opening two games. Blues have some injured players available again but not sure if they have the necessary conditioning in their legs. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think there will be pre game events and activities for the kiddies so get your little ones decked out in CFC monogram face painting 😁

Should be a good day for the footy and may the best team win 🏉

i don't think kolt is big enough to take on cripps - we'll probably just let steele go head to head with him - so i would really like to see him go to walsh

they're both hard gut runners

Yeah cripps will be to strong for kolt. I'd stick him on Walsh or Smith if he starts to get the ball

I wondered why they chose the last nine meetings and not the last 10. Then I remembered Round 9 in 2018 where we beat them by 109 points. We’re long overdue for that kind of win again 👊🏼

We should win.

They have no forwards now. matches our backline.

They always start strong and fall off hard.

As long as we are consistent we should be able to stay in it and get up I think.

So I went into the demon shop to pick up a present & was going to also purchase a gawn 250 stubby holder & mug only to be told they haven't arrived yet.

Come on Melbourne be more organised. You knew his 250th was coming up.

I love your optimism re Fritta’s 200th. Would that be every regular season game plus every final including a drawn grand final?

Viney won’t make it this year either.

Will Lever?

10th Demon EVER to reach 250 games?

In 150 years? Good lord

Must win this game, got a feeling Max is going to produce (yet another) performance for the ages.

That's a lot of kids running out Sunday. Although max said on mmm yesterday George gets overwhelmed & is terrified of mascots & had a nightmare over the harvest pea mascot

I may have a slightly different view to most of you but I am a little surprised that everyone is saying T-Mac replaces Turner this week.

Given that our emphasis under Kingy is speed of ball movement and on top of that the slight tweaks to rules (quick ball ups, out of bounds etc) have increased speed throughout the AFL game as a whole, I am a little surprised that Jed Adams isn't one of our three tall backmen, especially now that we have lost Turner's pace.

Adams played well last week in VFL (I am reliably told) and is the quickest guy over 100m at the club. Kozzie would easily beat him over 20m though.

King has already shown his liking to prioritise playing the fittest players at our club and that's partly why our best 2km men Kolt and Sharpy are in the side and they have rewarded him by being two of our best players both weeks.

But adding T-Mac alongside Lever and Petty does not imbue our defence with the pace needed to play at such a breakneck level of 2026. I am very happy for T-Mac to come back in because he provides versatility and has a little more height to play on Hudson O'Keefe or McKay. But it should be at the expense of either Lever or Petty. Adams should replace Turner.

And clearly our other defenders should be on notice because Xavier Taylor must play in the very near future because he is our future.

Finally I'd also say that as much as I enjoyed the spark that Latrelle provided against St Kilda, his game against Freo was not up to standard and he should be given a firm reminder over the next two weeks by watching Sunday from the stands and the following week by playing in the VFL.

While Laurie deserves his spot, I'd say it's hard not to bring in the lively and somewhat manic pace of Moniz-Wakefield.

I'd even say there is a case to drop Sparrow for Laurie, but I can't see that happening.

My changes: In: Adams, Moniz-Wakefield, T-Mac, Laurie. Out: Turner (injured), Lever, Latrelle P, Sparrow.

Expected changes: In: T-Mac, Moniz-Wakefield. Out: Turner, Latrelle P

Would prefer him to tag Jagga - he'S been learning from some top talent. Will stand him in good stead as he matures.

Speed on the ball doesn't just mean quick players everywhere on the ground though. One feature I've noted from T Mac over the past 5 or 6 years is that he has a habit of driving us out of defence with a 50m pass down the ground to a player in space out the back.

As I understand it, he's probably dropped back a few spots, but from what I understand T Mac is still one of the top 10 if endurance athletes at the club. Maybe not great agility these days, but his other strengths in defence is reading the play and taking strong intercept marks, so I think there's still a place in the side for him on that basis.

Glad to hear your review that Adams is performing well at Casey, because we do need that key back depth for the future. Other reviews I've heard of his performance of late have not been great, but it's a long season and I hope these negative assessments aren't on the money and he works his way into the team.

Adams first half last week was excellent. His second half was the opposite of excellent.
I suggest TMac will be called on as ruck chopout or to play on McKay if Petty goes in. The role is more for Tmac than Adams.

To say we owe this mob is an understatement.

At least we have had 8 days to prepare for this one and if we bring some better defensive efforts across the board we should win this.

Why? Is Fritta going somewhere after this season?

So, two massive milestones on the one day. Shame it’s our away game

Sparrow seems destined to break out from the shadows under King but so far remains the invisible man. You’re right that Laurie probably deserves a real shot at this point.

As for Latrelle, he’s such a prospect but you’d imagine needs confidence to play to his best. Not sure dropping him will have a positive effect on his development.

X Taylor seems more the type that needs systems drilled before throwing him into the defensive end of the field.

TMac is way underrated.

Rivers isn’t going out, but might want to learn to tackle. Another who isn’t firing under King but should be.

And when he is re-signed is he going to be gifted games?

Glibness is a two way cul-de-sac.

Bayley has struggled for a couple years now and our new gameplan suits him in the offensive phase as the wankers say, but it certainly doesn’t in the defensive phase.

Lazy MFers are going to stick out like sore 👍’s.

Carlton have won their past 4 games against us by very small margins, but it's been due to their accuracy more so than being the comprehensively better side on the night.

Carlton - 44 goals 24 behinds.

Melbourne - 38 goals 45 behinds

That was then...

This is now ....

May the belief be strong with the boys !!
