High contact (with ground), high impact - contest result of kozzie kick

Result: kozzie suspended for 3 weeks

I know its a lottery at times, but this Comden/Mihocek one has me confused on where it'll land

New year, same sh*t

I wonder how long before, they might ask questions if it was a bit before the tackle, like why didn’t he come off etc.

It was still a dangerous tackle though, his arms were pinned and ridden to the ground, yes he released him right at the last moment but it had potential to be a lot worse, you could see the concern on Comben's face after the event.

Yep, yet another case of punish the outcome, not the dangerous action.

The MRO still hasn't been given a brain for Christmas

Michael - it was a dangerous tackle, with a player's head driven into the ground.

If you can't see the you really need to stand down.

For case for 2026 ....

Well, he couldn't have taken him fully to the ground unless he had partially disengaged his arm

No, Comben was a "won't be long" watch.

So whose Medical Report was that?

It doesn't say Melbourne's, Does it? Why not?

Ah yes, Michael Christian. You can guarantee that if Mihocek was still playing for the Pies, Comben would have been suspended.

Never will i forget his threat to resign if Maynard was rubbed out.

The final straw for me in terms of knowing that the AFL is obviously corrupt

What made it worse was the half the football public had Maynard as not guilty. Incredible

But there again, a lot of fans still pine for the violent days of old. Brayshaw became an expendable entity. Disgusting

Spot on Macca

Anyone know the MFC players that have already been done 2 or 3 times for umpire contact? 4th time will be a suspension.

My understanding is that Rivers got done twice last year, so he'll need to make a concerted effort to avoid umpire contact going forward.

Surely the AFL can't do this retrospectively? It goes against natural justice. It would be like announcing that if you had 3 jay-walking fines in the last 5 years and got another one next year, you would be jailed. If you knew the newly announced consequences, you might have been more careful to not jay-walk all those years ago.

It's a good point you make.

The article just says 4 times. 4 times in your career or 4 times in a season?

Adam Cerra had to go to the tribunal last year for making contact 4 times - over multiple years, NOT in 2025.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
