Kane Cornes: Demons prove you can't believe a word they say

When that documentary comes out, Cornes may be vindicated...

Does anyone have the source or link to the Tom McDonald interview? Thanks

In the new Amazon doco (coming out Feb 27).

In an episode of “Final Siren: Inside the AFL”, to air on Prime Video on February 27, Gawn says: “culturally we’re not right’’.

It came after a candid conversation captured in the documentary between Gawn and Melbourne defender Tom McDonald, who says: “It would be irresponsible to say the culture is absolutely perfect.

“We’ve had a player banned for performance enhancing drugs, we’ve had some other controversial stories.’’

This is an example of a situation where both arguments are clearly correct. Kane Cornes is a giant [censored] who loves the sound of his own voice, and the MFC has been guilty of many very ordinary performances both on and off the field in recent years.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, we are likely to very much regret participating in this documentary when it goes to air.

Seriously, who cares what any of these rent-a-mouths have to say.

I heard the Footy Show was looking for a new compere and guess what happened.

It's time to look forward, not back

We start again after a number of necessary changes both on & off the field

David Parkin on SEN today referenced that in order for a team to seriously challenge, that team needs 28-30 bona-fide AFL standard players

We've got a ways to go, but with a new coach and a revamped FD & Player list, the new journey begins

The first thing that we need to see happening?

Senior players standing up, playing well and leading the way

At last count, we have about 30 players on the list with at least 4 years experience on an AFL list. It's time for those players to deliver

If that doesn't happen, we're heading for another big off-season

Kane saying he feels vindicated paints it is though he was the only person in the media pointing out problems at our club and nobody believed him until now, haha.

Pretty sure the vast vast majority of the football world knew there were issues at the club 18 months ago, when CP was launching hand grenades after his injury and it was headline news for like, 2 weeks.

But Kane is right, I have Roffeys interview in my head being like ‘nah, this is all a media invention you guys, no issues at our club’.

Agree Macca, move on.

And what a bombshell, ‘clubs lie’.

Naughty naughty, go sit in the corner MFC.

Errors were made and key personnel needed to go, but we've made the changes accordingly

The players need to buy-in into the coaches instructions and we go from there

Apart from the senior players needing to lift, it's our style of play that is all-important

We need to share the ball as a first, 2nd & 3rd option. We did that against Freo & Brisbane last year and that was with a fragmented group (and won both games)

So team football (first) is entirely feasible, DZ

All clubs go into denial when things go pear-shaped. It's human nature

It's my belief that the premiership went to their heads (Demons)

What happened as a consequence was like night following day

The thing that annoys me and probably annoys our senior players is that there’s this narrative that we’ve tumbled down the ladder on the back of a few bad apples not being well managed in 2022/2023.

And whilst it hasn’t helped I really think that’s a load of junk because the vast majority of our players fronted up well in to 2024 at least.

We had club wide failures from the board, the ceo, the footy department, list management, coaching that impacted far more. Hence why most of those people are gone.

And we also had some bad luck with really good apples like Brayshaw and ANB leaving from matters outside our control. Even if we could’ve handled it far better Tracc’s injury wasn’t our fault.

Collingwood players took out more of our guys than our bad culture did!

The Dogs have lost Jamarra and Bailey Smith for peanuts.

The Cats have had Stengle need medical assistance in a nightclub and now on personal leave, Tom Atkins nearly killed someone driving off the road, a rookie allegedly assault a woman and Bruhn find himself in a highly compromising position even if he was cleared of a crime. Not to mention the coach and Smith firing off on women in the workplace.

And up in Brisbane they’ve now got 2 former captains who will screw anything that moves.

What’s occurred since 21 flag, is well documented and we are not isolated, our culture was comprised & cost us a flag, premiership coach & Norm Smith! you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out was going on, just look at our departures and recent retirements!

Ahhh Cornes. I remember Cornes sprouting how everyone could see the 'disaster' in bringing Grundy to the club when he was traded. Rewind to when we recruited Grundy, and he was saying what a stroke of genius by the Dees to bring in another premiership. When you get away with getting so many wrong, you dont get to 'vindicate yourself' on one you brought up like most journos did.

Tldr - your culture is only bad when you're losing.

The extrapolation that Cornes has made from a comment by a footballer, that the club culture wasn’t perfect, is absolutely laughable and it’s hysterical that he uses that extrapolation to pump up his tyres to the world.

Obviously a very slow news day, in the extraordinarily large Cornes head.

I know many people don't like him but he actually gets a lot right

Agree but he also gets a lot wrong, maybe more than he gets right.
