That’s going to make you rather ancient rjay as l’m no spring chicken.

I don't feel it (most of the time) but I guess I'm getting there.

I did the speaking course with Geoff when I think he had moved off his on air positions, his partner in crime Don Kinsey (also an old radio man from 3DB) was heavily involved in running the Children's Hospital appeal.

Possibly nerves, some people wind up like clockwork springs when going public. Speaking to daughter number two, long distance today she’s doing it!!! 😱

I've heard it with a few presenters/interviewers lately. As I say Geoff would be turning in his grave but it seems like it might be a thing, a bit like in language where we now have "learnings" and we "versus" a team.

Not a big fan...

Edit: Sorry Thomas for derailing your thread, I think you will be a great acquisition to the club both on and off field. Looking forward to following your career.

No, his father Geoff was the voice of the ABC for many a year.

...before your time I'm guessing.

edit: He used to run a public speaking course with Don Kinsey...one of his big no no's was the upward inflection at the end of a sentence. Said something along the lines of people can't take you seriously when you sound like an overly excited teenager.

Yes, I did their course and they were great for improving my diction, pronunciation and confidence in public speaking. They worked very well together.

I was gunna do it but thought Yeah, Nah, I speak proper so no need.

I am liking this pick more and more as the days go by after seeing and reading about him.

The dynamic aspect of his game his so impressive. Speed, endurance, leap, ground ball work it's all there. The low centre of gravity could make him pretty menacing, from the limited footage his defensive tackling pressure is great and makes opponents feel like they're in quicksand.

These are the picks JT generally excels in.

Gee - can't believe the nitpickers and pendants on here taking pot shots at our media people, and even our ex media people. Really? Nothing better to do in the off season??

It’s called having an opinion.

Doesn’t SHE?

Have the new players been briefed on avoiding the Ghosty hug at training?

It's probably not you 'Robbie', the spell checker/auto whatever on here does some very weerd things at times.

I think its always good to get the Gippsland Power lads. A lot of the power youngstars end up at Casey if they don't get drafted. When you are from Gippsland, you are used of the long travel growing up, so the Casey issue is negligent to a lot of the kids drafted out of Gippland, or any already in the AFL system. The more Power kids we draft the better, so long as its warranted.

Not just on here... the other day my Outlook tried to autocorrect "Hope you're well" to "Hope your well"! 🧐

“Avoiding”? “AVOIDING”?!!!!

I’ve told almost every one of them it’s in their contract and if they don’t believe me they need to get a very powerful magnifying glass and check out the finest of fine print on the bottom of their contract.

CJ said he couldn’t find his contract but it doesn’t matter because he likes the hug at Gosch’s.

So there!

Imagine if a male supporter did that at an AFLW training session....creepy

Spaniards would advise against it.

Be proud of it, Robbie. It's a nice bit of off-season-filling you've achieved for us! 😊

Idk what this means, but a male supporter hugging the W players at training would never happen IF THE PLAYERS HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. Same goes for a female supporter hugging the M players at training, or anyone, regardless of their gender.

The club isn’t worried about hurting a supporter’s feelings. If a player is creeped out or for any other reason doesn’t wish to engage with a supporter, trust me, the club will immediately put an end to it.

It’s not unprecedented. There have been cases where a supporter has been banned from contact with players. As recently as 18 months ago a huge fan (and player-sponsor) of the W was unceremoniously cut off from all contact with the W players due to “unwanted attention.”

I hug the W players at training, too. But this is never an issue on here 🤷‍♀️

Looking forward to seeing a team coached to use its advantages. Hoping this results in a spread of goalkickers, but also when a player is identified as having a good mismatch we put the foot down and exploit it before the oppo has a chance to get a plan in place.

On Matthews himself, Im really looking forward to his contribution at the top level but if it takes a full year to get him to his best, so be it.

I don't want to have a dig at Goody. He's moved on and we must respect him for what he did.

But I don't think making changes on the fly so to speak was one of his strengths. Sometimes he was painfully slow or did nothing at all.

Of course he should have checked in here on game day every 2 or 3 hours to sharpen his skills and make the 1000 recommended moves.

But in all fairness, he did make changes but often the game was done and dusted when he did. That and things like always playing Petty out of position were his only real negatives.

But sometimes his stubborness or persistence paid off.

He achieved the ultimate in shaking off entrenched attitudes and an almost real voodoo and bought home the bacon.

He's made a distinct place for himself in the annals ( careful) of AFL history.

Thanks Simon.

This is a thread about a new recruit Tom Matthews

I am happy with this guy. Leadership, hardness, skills, speed and goal kicking. Was nominated as the best 'trainer' in their pre-season. A little bit of Jamie Elliot about him from his highlights - one can dream.

Let's hope it can translate to senior level. I wish him all the best.

sorry if missed in here, is there any indication when the young fella will be able to resume full training?

Then stop commenting off-topic.

Pet hate: people who post off-topic then none-too-subtly remind someone who replies that they’re off-topic.

Wow he looks like one of my 13 year old daughter's year 7 classmates....I am officially OLD
