I've mentioned this before. You can't create a list spot by paying out or delising a player. McAdam is contracted for next year. He's on our list regardless of what he does, or what we do.

My understanding is that the AFL made an exemption in the case of Gus as he was 'delisted' by them.

Yes you can. We did it with Lachie Hunter. Essendon did it with James Stewart not long ago.

If you do it before the final list lodgement the money goes into the 2025 cap.

Do it after the list lodgements and the player goes on the inactive list. Although I believe most of these have been retirements or agreed upon by the player involved.

I canโ€™t imagine weโ€™d do either tho. Give everyone a fair chance under the new coach at least until the end of preseason if not mid year.

Iโ€™m not sure how you would know thatโ€ฆ. Bbq?

Objectively though (ie looking at draft pick points values), 2 & 13 for 7 & 8 would have to be up there with one of the most lop-sided pick swaps in history. Iโ€™d love if we could get it done, but I think it is a fair way off reality.

I dont know it. Its just opinion based on what it would realistically from a points view. Our interest in Robey has been mentioned as has West Coast openness to trade for the right deal.

What might Pick 7 plus Suns F1 get us this year I wonder?

Would be interesting to know how Taylor rates the top 10

Well technically 2 + 28 (not 13) is close to exact from a points view so if you could squeeze 2 + 13 out of meth coast then I think we should hire you in Lambyโ€™s team!

Don't we want the F1 for Humphry next year.

So this would mean no bid on Dean until pick 10. Yes ? Is it easier for Carlton if this occurs .

We would not want to be charged with collusion

I hope we can get one great kid and the other a workhorse if it is a poor draft.

2 champs like last year very doubtful

I would like to think we have spoken to Dean, in view of the shambles that Carlton is at the moment.

We'd have to throw in a future 1st I would presume.

2, 13

For

7, 8, gc f1 (10-16)

Whether it's worth doing that I'm not sure. I have complete faith in JT to identify draftees and whether it's worth condensing our petracca capital for a specific target(s).

I like how aggressive we are to target players in the draft (Lindsay a good example) but sometimes I do feel we short change ourselves in the future with our pick swaps that possibly hinders our trading flexibility in subsequent years.

For instance, we could potentially find ourselves in the Butters (or Humphrey) race next year and holding onto two first rounders could place us ahead of many clubs to get a deal done.

So, for those who follow under age football in detail, what's your view about the quality of the draft, and, in particular, what's likely to be available at picks 7 and 8 (wherever they finally land)?

Iโ€™m not an expert but purely by the way the regular draft guys like Twomey talk about players before they were drafted if you were breaking the draft in to tiers and excluding academy/father son Iโ€™d say:

S tier (Daicos, JHF, Harley Reid): 0 players

A+ grade tier (Sheezel, McCluggage, Anderson, Jackson, Langford): At most 2 players - Duursma, CDT, it might be a reach to even put them in this batch.

A tier: (Serong, Flanders, Sanders, Ginbey, Caldwell, Lindsay) at most 3 players - Robey, X Taylor, Sharp

B+ tier: maybe 8-10 different players but very light on for talls or sure thing mids. Itโ€™s mostly flankers who can progress to midfield or star in their role.

We're no chance for Humphrey now. He wanted to come home to Victoria and we were the only option due to having capital to get him home. There are other clubs he'd prefer to play at though. He's been talking to Hawks and Pies also, and dropped hints on social media he's keen on the Pies.

F1 is now ammo for either hitting the draft next year or filling other needs. Taking two first rounders to draft this year and next year would be fantastic. That would give us 8 first round draftees across four drafts. Get those right and we'll be top tier in the league for talent coming through together and setup for a decade.

I'd hope for another gun midfielder and a small forward.

Gun midfielders dictate games and win flags.

Small forwards influence finals games more than key position forwards. With the modern game being about speed, gun small forward are game changers. Brisbane are the perfect example of that. Their two key forwards were basically worthless come finals, but Cameron, Bailey, Rayner, Lowman etc. just won them two flags in a row.

With that in mind, Robey and Dovaston sound perfect, but not sure Robey will be available at our pick. That would be like drafting another Petracca and Kozzie essentially.

And letโ€™s not forget Noah Yze is a possible rookie (is there room for him?).

If we trade 7 & 8 up, then I like the look of Robey. If we go with 7 & 8, Iโ€™d be hoping for Noah Hibbins-Hargreave or Grlj and Dovaston.

Noah's draft year was last year, and we did not nominate him then, so not sure we'd have any interest this year as we are short of list spots. yes, he looked good in the last few casey games but needed to be taken over the year as a whole. Even Liam Pickering on SEN did not know who Yze was , thought he was a son of Yze Yze, Adem's brother. Like Dovaston and Grlj.

Ideally we get two players like Butters or Kossie who start as a small forwards but build endurance and strength to move into the midfield.

Maybe we want someone like Robey at 2 and Pickett at 28...

For me:

. Best possible outcome is trade up and draft Duursma

. Best vaguely likely outcome is Robey and Grlj

. More likely outcome something like Lindsay and Grlj

I'd rather use the 2 picks this year and next year.
Even if we swing at 50% it'll work out ok.

We might have an outside chance at getting one of Grjl, Sharp or Taylor.

But its more likely we're going to be choosing from the next batch: Lindsay, Cumming, Marsh, Phillipou, Schubert, Farrow.

Have had a look at the rankings and mock drafts that are about and this seems a likely order at this stage

1. WC โ€“ Duursma

2. GC โ€“ Uwland

3. WC โ€“ Duff-Tyler

4. GC โ€“ Patterson

5. BRIS โ€“ Annable

6. RICH โ€“ Robey

7. CARL โ€“ Dean

8. RICH โ€“ Grjl

9. ESS - Sharp*

10. ESS โ€“ Taylor*

11. MEL -ย

12. MEL -ย

As I say would love if one of Robey, Grjl, Sharp or Taylor drop to us but I think its unlikely at this stage.

I understand the hype around Doverton but could still just be too much of a reach. Absolutely understand the need for another small forward especially of Kozzy keeps spending more and more time in the midfield.

I like Lindsay too and losing Judd it makes a lot of sense.

I still think if there's a mid that Taylor likes (because he picks them well) we should take one with 7 or 8.

We have to keep building our young midfield stocks because we're pretty thin there. Riv and Langford look like potential A graders but not so sure about X and Windsor yet.

If we get our house in order this year, and make positive steps, there is no reason why we arenโ€™t a chance to get Humphrey next year.

Come on Picket, Clarry was my favourite player too, but I am not going anywhere and neither should you.

Neither of us know how far off the rails Clarry fell, but we can be sure that he would never have been traded, unless it was absolutely necessary.

Why take a useless pick and pay some salary unless we had to?

This trade had to be done and now we move on:
