Hopefully now he's got the game out of the way, playing against his old team it will free him up now & he can now play freely & enjoy himself.

Clearly was a tough thing for him to leave the Saints, but they moved him out the door. Their loss, our gain.

He is a leader. He is composed. He will be a great asset to guide and develop our young mids like Langford and Windsor.

V Saints in round 1, he was a strong contributor not just with the footy. 21 possessions. 9 contested. 7 score involvements. One goal.

With the loss of Clarry & Trac, we were blessed to be able to add Steele and for virtually a packet of chips in the trade.

A good positive first game. 💙❤️

A quality person and a quality player. The fact that St Kilda let him go for next to nothing is exactly the sort of decision making that delivers one premiership in 130 years.

We just need him to play a role each week, anything more than that is a bonus.

Also like the fact he thinks he didn't have a great game and needs to get more of it. High standards - especially when you consider he was at less than two thirds of centre bounces.

Very likable sort. Loved seeing all the players get around him after his goal.

He has a moment in the first quarter when the saints jumped us where you could see some guys getting a little bit tense and Steele got over to about 6 blokes and just calmed everyone down. Suddenly the players were smiling and we wrestled things back

that’s exactly why we recruited him. He’s a solid citizen, a very good player and a an exceptional leader and the saints are footing some of the bill

Steele going to the meeting with King not wanting to leave St.Kilda and coming out having changed his mind was the first tick of King’s tenure.

We were told he has poor foot skills. What I’ve seen at training and his 3 games for us, I’m seeing the opposite. His weighted kick to Max for his goal was sensational. He put it in front of Max and not on his head.

His foot skills have always been pretty good, the speed or lack thereof always the major concern

I'm very optimistic about Steele, as I think he is going to be one of the recruits of the year across the league, simply because he fills a gaping hole in our midfield.

He shouldered a huge load yesterday and, with no Viney, is going to have to keep doing that until we get more midfield experience into the likes of Langford and Rivers.

If he just plays that role every week, we win, and win big, from the trade to bring him in.

How this hasn't gained more attention in the off-season is baffling. A club has willingly traded/put their Captain up for sale - what does that do to culture?

What it has done is show us that buying B graders (or worse) on big $$ does not equal success. I think the Saints have lots of great talent, but I can't say that TDK, Silvagni, Flanders on big coin is going to be the answer

Isnt it great to see some honest talking. Obviously still hurting from getting booted from the Saints. And the big smile on his face when he didnt know the words to the club song.

I liked his goal as he only kicks one every 3 games.

He does seem like a really genuine bloke. Been mentioned plenty of times, but I think his worth to the dees will not just be his stats or even his on field presence.

% of Melbourne fans that wanted Trac/Olber to stay vs % of Saints fans that wanted Steele to stay. Combine the Melbourne percentages for both players and probably still less than Steele lol.
