YES DEES brilliant choice.

CJ, Florent, Steele. make it happen.

Get him in for the clarry pick we get from gws. Good character and decent player for the next two years while our youngsters come on

I'd take Steele as a plan C where we very likely end up with neither of Flanders or Humphrey's and end up just drafting the best kids we can get.

Plan C activated

No.

This actually makes me angry at the thought.

We are better off backing our current players. Rivers, Windsor, Langford, Sparrow, Lindsay etc.

Another Jack Billings type trade. Bugger off Lamb.

Looking forward to seeing our media "draft mark" after this circus - struggling to see it being A+

Oh FFS

Jack Steele? Did Viney just do a knee that I dont know about?

Only makes sense if saints paying a chunk like we are with Oliver, in a way it would off set that to a degree

Wow this trade period is starting to make the McAdam trade just not that bad…

We were right, I followed your lead.

Steele is still a good player but we don't seem to have a coherent strategy around our list build at the moment. Not sure 30 and 32 year olds on good money are what we should be chasing.

Can you explain how they’ll link it?

I’m struggling to follow that train of thought.

The fact that he has to weigh up to leave the Saints just shows how far the mighty have fallen.

We have list spots to fill and need folk of good character to help rebuild. He doesnt have to be playing footy to have an impact on the playing group.

What people miss in this stuff is the power of having great people and leaders at the club. Something we have lacked in. It's not just match day that counts, it's the leadership and development of the younger guys, training standards throughout the week, team meetings etc. Plus if its for nothing in exchange, he's great insurance for onfield.

If it ends up being the pick from the Oliver trade then I like that deal. A good leader, experienced and a good person, who still has some decent footy left in him.

Just goes to show that the Oliver trade is entirely linked to off field stuff.

Because on-field, he's a much, much, much better option than Jack Steele.

He is the sort of player who makes the young kids walk taller. Tough bugger. Protects his players.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
