I don't get the desire to move up the draft. Unless we're getting pick 1 even the top end looks pretty average.

but threes another Dursma !! Surley this third one like Joel selwood is the best of the bloodline?

If we have absolutely zero chance of getting BH, which sadly know I think is the case. it would be great to see something like this:

Trac, 24, 35 (Oliver) & 42 (Worth about 1161 points)

for

7, 8, 15. (pick 15 is worth 973 Points)

Gives us 7, 8, 15 and 27 to take to the draft.

Not Ideal considering the draft quality, but at least we clear the list of drama/distraction & large restrictive contracts. That draft hand could potentially land us:

  1. Josh Lindsey 8. Sam Grlj 15. Lachie Dovaston 27. Latrelle Picket.

Replacing the butchery via foot of Oliver and Trac with the elite usage of Lindsey and Grlj would be a massive step towards improving under Kingy. Adding The two small forwards will also greatly improve our forward pressure and scoring power.

Might line up something like this:

This is the most skilled 22 the Dees have seen in a long time. Also loads of pace in this side which is required in modern footy. A very young side but it would be super exciting to watch!

Stage 2 is continuously reaching out to BH and making it clear we will be coming for him again next year.

Where does it say JT loves him?

There was a Code Sports article that we were the first club to interview Sullivan Robey which was done by Jason Taylor.

Correct - it was noted that we ideally wanted Robey to keep a low-profile in the lead up to the draft. Unfortunately for us, he's had numerous head-turning performances since our initial approach that have caused his name to be lit up on the boards of national recruiters.

Still a little odd seeing a Best 23 without CP5 and Clarry.

Cal just said on trade radio that he expects us to move up the draft board if we get 7&8.

We might turn pick seven and eight into pick seven

There's a bit of an elephant in the room here.

Maybe we don't want picks at all, certainly not 7 and 8 that will become 11 and 12, because JT says the talent is too thin. Sure, we could try and package 7 and 8 to get up higher, but if Essendon can't get up higher with picks 4 and 5, what hope have we got?

Essendon are reportedly interested in trading up for pick 1 to get Duursma so targeting a different pick.

Richmond are open to trading one of 3&4.

Eagles are also reported to be interested in moving up into top 10 from 13.

All the above has been reported by Cal.

I think we are in a good position to trade up if we get picks 7&8

Wonder if we have a nibble at one of Essendon's early picks with our F1, should Essendon want to spread their picks over a couple of years

Interesting to compare the Merrett/Curnow offers to the Trac one if we go down the Pick route.

Should we be asking for more (once line fully drawn through BH)?

Hawks deal for Merrett is essentially same points wise as what’s mooted for trac 7 and 8 with us giving a pick 24 back, Hustwaite isnt worth a 3rd round pick and future first from them would be up in the late teens I’d expect. Trac was the better player at his peak but Merrett was the better player this year

merrett is also an elite kick , there is a reason hawks are chasing him and backed away from Trac

I like how it's broadcast that we'll trade Trac no matter what..

Yes how is it that Merrett wants out, plenty of rumours about issues surrounding him and club. Yet according to AFL media the Bumbers are standing firm on not letting him go.

Unless there's the 'trade o' the century' offer put forward by the Hawks.

Yet, according to AFL media, we are seemingly willing to throw Tracc at GC and take a second rate deal with no player coming back.

Is this a true reflection of how far we've fallen as a club i wonder?

Whatever the deal is for Trac it is done and dusted and proabably has been for a few days.!

The AFL is holding back an annoucnement to create suspense and anticipation for the last hours of Trade Week.

The same for Curnow and maybe the 'go slow' with Merrett.

Would anyone with the choice of Merrett or Trac, actually pick Trac?

Good skills trump bullocking power these days

I would. Honestly. I don’t think Trac has hit his ceiling at all.

And we saw what a player like Trac can do in finals, ie. Dangerfield style. Trac is what every contender needs.

Merrett, only maybe moneyball bc Trac is too expensive unless you’re the Suns.

Depends on the current make-up of your team. Especially in finals. As Hawthorn found out

Petracca seems to have a useful player manager in Tom.

There have been so few leaks during trade period regarding us. Strange!!

Who cares, it’s not like we are winning games with them, no loss.

EXACTLY. In fact i think its harming our midfield more because they are unable to execute their roles. A well-balanced midfield with each player, playing their role is a more effective unit. I think Rivers, Viney and Spaz will provide the mature bodies with Kozzy also on the outside. We'll then have Langford, Lindsay, Windsor all rotating through over the next 2-3 seasons before our midfield reaches its peak potential and the window at that time, will potentially re-open. We will also have other players join no doubt through trade and draft that will add depth.

Humprey would have been a good acquisition, because we dont know exactly what 7 and 8 will hold.

Some of the usual suspects haven’t been hanging around the club for a while.

I think it’s just a reflection of the wording coming from each club, we have said Trac is free to look so long as we get a good deal, bombers have always said there is no deal no matter what.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
