Farewell Clayton Oliver

Featured Replies

Clayton Oliver is one of the greatest to play for the Red and the Blue. One of the greatest contested ball players of all time.

Not unlike many of those who are gifted with rare talent, it came at a price. His history caught up with him, as it does all of us, and he couldn't navigate it and ran off the rails. I have many friends in the same category - so I won't judge - but I'll still be disappointed and genuinely sad that it all fell apart when he was at the peak of his powers. I respect him greatly for getting back on track - so to speak - but I also agree with the club that his time was up. Some things can't be undone and a fresh start benefits everyone.

Thanks for the wild ride Claz, and for the greatest moment of my sports supporting life - Bang, Bang, Bang!

Unfortunately 3 years of [censored] footy have got u here.

Thanks for the flag though !!!

Thanks Ollie for the great memories especially in a dark time. Hope you remain healthy and find happiness but also that the rest of your career is filled with mediocrity (I doubt it though).

Also, we essentially just swapped Oliver out for Steele in… that’s not bad at all.

When the dust settles people will realise this was years too late and could have been much worse. Great player, amazing inside work at his best, but alas.

Hopefully one day Oliver realises just how much he [censored] up his career at the MFC and contributed to the teams downfall post-2021 flag

You certainly really hate an absolute champion Doc. Poor show!

Then direct your fury at Oliver. He brought this on himself and unfortunately, the club.

While the situation behind it isn't the same, it's not really different to the JUH trade - pick 79 for a player who was taken at pick 1. Or look at the Hogan trades in/out of Fremantle. They paid a king's ransom and sold him for pick 54 two years later.

etc. etc.

Good luck to Clayton, but clearly the situation had become untenable. We'll probably never know the real reasons.

What I don't understand. If He did all these so called terrible things why did the club keep selecting him week after week? Cannot recall any incident with him all through 2025.

Farewell Clayton, not the ending we’d hoped for but you left us with so many fond memories, I hope everything goes well on and off field

You will always be a fan favourite and part of the club’s history

Because the guy who was protecting him and who is no longer at the club was in charge of those decisions.

None so blind as will not see ..

I understand this is necessary, but I feel gutted. The best midfielder I have seen at the Dees. Power, amazing hands in close, played like a bull, played at top speed, effective, and wildly brilliant. His last 2 years have been a shadow of his former brilliance. And I will find it difficult - really difficult - to watch him when we play GWS...

Thanks Clarry for bang bang and everything you gave us. I hope your life get sorted in Sydney and you enjoy life again.

I don't hate him.

Its all good wanting to move on to the future, I'm glad to see people optimistic.

However I do think the next few days should be for grieving. These were generational players that at the end of 2022 you would never imagined would be leaving this way.

Things are short in the AFL. One day you're the happiest person that ever lived, the next day you're some shmo working in a box factory

Will never forget Bang Bang Bang.

Thanks for everything claz, forever a champion dee.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
