third round pick for clarry won't do his self esteem and mental health any favours

His manager will tell him itโ€™s the equivalent of a first rounder - he wonโ€™t know the difference

We chose to blow the relationship up, despite Clarry being invested and wanting to stay

We did this

When you not only blow things up, but also let such a blow up leak, you have no leg to stand on

GWS are happy to put in the effort we obviously no longer want to put in, while we pay for it

How to lose a trade 101

We did not do this, without influence from Oliver and you know this he is invested to a certain degree, heโ€™s not without issue and not meeting expectations of required professional standards in 2025.

Why do you think clubs arenโ€™t jumping at him for $6-700k and a Future third

Probably not. But it should be a bloody good kick up the butt.

Imagine three years ago someone suggesting that weโ€™d trade Oliver in a few years for a future third pick. Wild. And sad.

ย

I get that a F3 for Oliver seems ridiculous at first glance but what would you trade for a 28yo who performed as Oliver did in 2025? Certainly not a 1st rounder. Perhaps a second rounder but then thereโ€™s the off field issues to consider. So, a third rounder it is. Finally, who wants to pay someone worthy of a third rounder $1M+/yr. ?

GWSโ€™ offer only seems ridiculous to us because of our emotional attachment to Oliver and his past (onfield) exploits. If the offer truly was ridiculous, there would be an auction taking place but there isnโ€™t.

If a new coach & admin think itโ€™s time to cut our losses, letโ€™s do so and move on.

But it is completely bad faith negotiating to make your first offer and a low ball offer at that, the day before trading closes.

Tell them if you canโ€™t afford his salary, we will look at a player swap, to assist your salary cap and save your pick.

This is real dirty dealing by them.

Tell them the wheel will turn if that is how they operate.

Surely we could bring his salary forward and pay it off over the next year or so? Frontload it, we'll have space once Trac is off the books.

As if he would give a [censored] about what picks are being swapped for him lol.

He is in the states probably having the time.. of his life.

Fickle. Donโ€™t bother coming back when the times are good again.

Glad you think there will be good times again! I admire your supreme optimism very much. Sadly, we are only going to go one way, downhill.

We just don't have the cattle to go upwards.

Yes because the cattle we have had the last two years has pointed us to the upwards direction.. oh wait..

Club put Clarry through the ringer. He had every right to spit the dummy after the way the club treated him. Natural, human reaction. Thanks Mr King.

This is a joke, right?

I agree with this though. Our comms team strike again.

Am I naive, I assumed it was Oliverโ€™s management that leaked the details of the meeting? It was the nuclear option but it helped them

I was just thinking about that. Front loaded contributions are a lot more palatable.

The issue with frontloading is that if you give it to someone and their money drops off too much they might agitate to go elsewhere and get back on the bigger coin again.

Aren't we giving to Clarry while he plays for the Giants?

Ahh right sorry didn't understand what you meant.

[censored]. You lot think Lamb alone is pushing Clarry out? There is a list management team, which includes the new coach. We want him out, it's effectively a salary dump.

Not a salary dump at 50% I'm afraid.

It's a pure dollar decision and 50% salary for five? years in return for zero is an easy decision....

NO

After 65 years of membership I am joining with a few of my mates in refusing to renew my membership next season.

I hear you Bobby, I really do.

A 35 year member myself, and Iโ€™ll be downgrading from GFG to just a regular membership next year. Purely because of my ego and not wanting the streak to lapse.

Itโ€™s amazing how quickly this club has gone from the pinnacle to the depths of inadequacy we find ourselves in now.

We can probably do that and easier if May leaves.

I still think we should have a go at a Giants player, to give Giants salary cap relief so we need to pay less of his contract.

Canโ€™t say Iโ€™m surprised by the proposed deal here. Right from the start I was advocating that it was better to keep Oliver and make the most of a bad situation.

Very silly comment. 2019/20 were not that great but guess what happened in 21. We have some very good young talent and in my view it's upwards and you need to follow another side if you think differently.

To many negative people around here. Stay on the horse or get off.

Look, it's a tough time for us Demon supporters losing our former champs

I honestly thing the club is doing the right thing now to right the ship and I'm excited about the future (pretty much)

I believe they're doing the right thing, sad it is happening and apprehensive about our future ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

A salary dump is getting rid of a player and his salary for a [censored] pick

Weโ€™re getting rid of a player for a [censored] pick and paying him 700k as well

No, heโ€™s in Melbourne. A mutual friend saw him this morning near AIA. They stopped and chatted, Clarrie was on his way to the gym (AAMI Park).

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
