It will probably come down to something like, if BH wants to come to us and say Suns relent and want our 2 first rounders and if those picks could get us say another Langford and say another Disco, what do we want more?

Also another poster mentioned Paddy Cross. Of course he is untested, but say BH is a 20 possession 2 goal a game player and Cross becomes letโ€™s say a 14 possession 1 goal a game player, does that affect the above choice?

Then factor in the improvement of say Culley, Howes, AMW, Langford, Kolt and Windsor and say Trelly and Matthews start showing something, how does that effect the choice.

In other words it is a big investment in a player that has to be carefully considered and of course I didnโ€™t even touch on the issue of a long and large contract that will be needed to get BH and the effect it has on our salary cap and player morale.

Those that think 2 first rounders for Humphrey clearly don't watch the Suns or project players development. Fourth in their B&F last year behind the Brownlow medalling, current captain and All Australian and prior captain. He is super clean and dynamic and unlike some others of his age has high impact per possession. Will only improve as he further builds his tank and maturity.
Happy for us take a proven player with potential to be elite with 5 years development into him over a swing at 2 more kids (though we are pretty good at nailing them). Kay defensive posts if required can be filled via trade or free agency in my view.

Exactly.

People wouldn't stop at any less than two first rounders and a future for Trac and with good reason but this guy has serious potential.

I'd shudder to think what we'd have to give up for Humphrey after holding Petracca to ransom and milking 3 firsts.

Another factor perhaps..

The ol' bird in hand worth 2 in bush but replace as One capable player now v 2 maybe in future.

If we start to get on a roll we need to pump up the tyres and wind out the throttle ...NOW.. not years into the future.

Ol Humpty would be of far greater value imho than stacking up the cupboard.

Just my 5c

Then i wont be paying. Anyone that pays 3 rounders for potential just needs to look at Harley Reid. He is one more average season away before being declared overrated. I havent seen a game yet where Humphries as outright dominated. He is good and solid, but if we are looking to cough up 2-3 first rounders i know i'd be picking up the phone to Butters manager and seeing if we can deal with Port given he is a RFA.

This is some of the funniest stuff I've read for years.

Hopefully the backline Young Angus, once he settles back into the fold, he isnโ€™t really a swingman and he is our tallest defender, he Lever and Disco can work out who should be on who. We have TMac, Adamโ€™s and possibly Berry as backupโ€™s but we need some luck with injuries and concussions.

Berry? It was a stretch at Adamโ€™s.

You mean โ€œmilking โ€œ 3 firsts for a Norm Smith Medallist, Premiership, All Australian and B & F player, widely regarded as one of the best players in the AFL.

Remind me what BH has achieved so far.

Petracca might have the rewards but he ainโ€™t that player anymore. Iโ€™ll watch with interest this year. I reckon we were more than well paid for him.

Agree, but Suns arenโ€™t stupid and they paid that price to get him, to hopefully add icing to a flag tilt cake.

Iโ€™ve read Cornesโ€™ and SENโ€™s top 50 players for this year and BH isnโ€™t mentioned in either. Has anyone rated BH as a top 50 player?

Is comparing prices paid for Petracca and what Humphrey could be worth realistically relative?

Whilst we got what would be viewed as fair, it was pretty easy for the suns to pay that price. Picks 6&7 wouldโ€™ve been eaten up for their academy picks anyway so we traded the right amount of points back (second rounders) so they could get them.

I might be wrong, but it seems like they got petracca and two top 5 picks for a 2026 first rounder. Obviously some second round pick were used too. Point is, they were never using picks their top 10 picks anyway, so the price they paid was pretty easy.

Exactly, picks mean nothing to GC these days, they donโ€™t need them as long as they have enough points to match their academy kids. Weโ€™re very lucky Petracca chose GC because we would not have gotten a deal like that anywhere else

BH is based upon what he could do. That is why GC have held him. No point trading a player who is showing signs of being the next Dangerfield. If he breaks out this year, he will win their B&F, and then what would be the asking price? 4 first round picks? He is still under contract. If BH does desire to come back home, given he is in contract, it would be an open market.

Who said he wasnโ€™t worth 3 first rounders? It might be 4 by the end of the year

โ€˜Mid to late first rounder and a secondโ€™

Itโ€™s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourneโ€™s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last yearโ€™s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although itโ€™s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sundayโ€™s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to foolโ€™s gold.
