I want corroboration from any of the more reliable sources (twomey or Cleary especially) before I buy too much into this. Xander seems a good bloke but wouldn’t put my house on his sources just yet.

Xander is a good one.

Perhaps this has driven the Clarry decision, we could increase our offers to Flanders and Humphrey and be really really happy fans if it plays out well.

I said it in the other thread and I’ll reiterate it here

Why the [censored] would Humphrey want to come play for us?

We can’t even get Flanders to commit at this stage and his only other suitors are bloody St Kilda and Essendon. Essendon?!!

Would love to see this happen, but not sure how many recruitment fights we’ll win with Collingwood and Carlton in the battle

Humphrey doesn’t want to be a forward, he’s an inside mid. If Petracca goes to Gold Coast his minutes will be cut down in there further again. We’re blowing ours up, there’s a spot there if he wants it with an exciting young group around him. I also think we could offer crazy good money, and more than those other two clubs.

Humphreys and Flanders with King wouldn't be a bad result in all this mess. I wonder if that's the grand plan, or one of them anyway.

I'd be over the moon if we landed Humphrey

I loved his quote when he was interviewed at the airport:

“Yeah happy to be at the Gold Coast Suns… at the moment. See what happens”

I wouldn’t be overly ecstatic if I were a Sun supporter with that level of enthusiasm by Humphrey Bear.

It would turn this so called dismal off season on its head if we could get Humphrey.

I’d liken it to trading a 30 year old Trac and getting a 21 year old Trac in return.

Both players are goal kicking bulls.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
