The crowd. It took a second for everyone to register it was him but MY GOD I've never heard a louder scream. Pure goosebumps.

You can literally see the crowd rise as soon as he marked the ball.

Everyone knew exactly what he wanted to do.

As Leigh Montagna said on First Crack.....Strong Aaron Davey vibes.

That was my first thought too watching him live for the first time. He has the same dancing feet, like he's floating across the field.

The confidence to take that last bounce before kicking his goal when saints players were closing is insane. Incredible to be doing that so early. He'll get caught a fair amount this season as he did a few times yesterday. But that doesn't seem to rattle him too much and he'll get used to AFL pace and timing as he goes on. As King said in his presser Koz and Trelly have the freedom to play their game as they're both so dangerous. Fun times ahead.

What incredible confidence especially for a debutant to take that third bounce and leave the Aints defenders looking like under 10s.

There is so much to look forward to.

I do wonder how long before opponents catch on that he does this thing.... runs straight.. then zags to the right ( his ) to skirt round a defender. ( bouncing when required )

Hopefully a lot lot more in bag of tricks ๐Ÿ‘

I suspect I'm not the only one who has watched that goal a couple of times. What I've loved on close inspection is how deliberate it was. Not a simple case of 'I go fast, I go sideways too, watch me go!' but a genuine anticipation of what the defenders were going to do, and a dash into space that actually didn't exist until the defenders kept going to where Latrelle suddenly wasn't.

This is the sort of thing that tells me he can be damaging at AFL level once he adjusts to the pace and gets fitter (which admittedly are 1-3 years off).

At the moment he's too slight and likely aerobically won't be able to hold his spot in the side for long periods at a time, but the way he finds space, and uses it, is a stand out (except yesterday when Koz was leading into the goal square and he got caught in two minds as to whether to kick it, which he should have, or pass it to Koz).

I can definitely see him needing some time to get his body ready for the constant physical hits of AFL footy, but I thought I heard King say he was in the top five runners at the club already (which came into consideration when the list team looked at whether he was worth a risk in the first round). I could be wrong or have misinterpreted that.

I think opponents are probably well aware that he does this thing, but knowing that's what he's going to do and stopping him from doing it are two very different things.

Agility like him and Kozzie have got is a rare thing and I don't think there are many that could match them in that department well enough to lay their hands on them.

Agreed, I could see Latrelle in the open, an open paddock to run into and was just cheering and hoping that he'd pull off what we'd seen him do in preseason on the big stage.

He has what many dont... speed, agility and TEMPO.

These are the magic ingredients of magically creating space where one seems.

Flash could , Robbie ( the Master ) ..Pendles..

Trav J too.. These aren't alone but come to mind

What i like, really really like is the syncronicity between Trelly and Koz takes it exponentially. Going to be an absolute hoot and a holler watching them together. They feed off each other ๐Ÿ˜‰

Absolutely love him. He's already my new favourite player for the Dees.

I'm wondering if he has the confidence to kick straight running into goal? All his highlights at SANFL, preseason and over the weekend shows that he prefers to run around in a circle and snap. This will see him run into a lot of trouble later, hoping he has the confidence to just back himself in and kick straight. He hesitated a few times when he had that opportunity and either wanted to pass it off or nearly got chased down.

Regardless, love what he brings.

I think he has... but two things come to mind... nit always a clear path.... and he would be very aware that he's the new kid. He seems very keen on "team " things. He's not selfish. Possibly as he matures and grows into his part, he'll understand better when there ARE times to be that player, kick that goal. He's even now imho quite adept at not overreaching the moment.

Hell, for a first game he's exceptional

Good as the goal was, my favourite moment was down the other end. Trys to break away with ball, tackled, actually brought down to ground level, stands up, little shrug, loses the tackler and happily trots away with the ball.

He threaded his way through players like they were witches hats. It was right in front of me my only thought was WOW!

The speed at which he got back up was amazing.

Mind you, should probably have been called for holding the ball. (Not the only bad non-decision yesterday, though.)

Glad he wasn't. That was one of Roo's goals, from memory.

Who called it better?

Was woundering why the kid in the stands was 'going off' even more than I was, then after watching it for tge 3rd or 4th time realised he was probably one of Lattrelle's family members and that's why the cameras were on him.

How good is that and absolutely gold in the current circumstances for Kozzie to have a special family moment like that with Latrelle on the field.

On the kids' right (left of screen) you'll also see a handful of Melbourne players having a big smile.

Who doesnโ€™t love Trelly, amirite???

Well, letโ€™s show him how much we really love him by voting for him. Trelly is a candidate for the round one Goal Of The Year.

VOTE FOR TRELLY GOTY

And while youโ€™re at it, please vote for Jai whoโ€™s been nominated for round one Mark Of The Year:

Edit: Trellyโ€™s up against Jack Crisp. Do we wanna see a Filth player beat him? No, we donโ€™t, do we!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourneโ€™s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last yearโ€™s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although itโ€™s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sundayโ€™s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to foolโ€™s gold.
