I think whoever the new coach is, the conversation with May is pretty simple. You basically say to him, "Mayzy you've got one year left on your contract, but you won't be playing at AFL level except in the case of an injury crisis. We look forward to you helping develop our VFL talent. If you're unhappy with that, then we're happy for you to seek a new home if a trade can be done".

Id keep him. Still showed against Geelong and Adelaide that he still has what it takes for perhaps a final crack at it.

You look at Adelaide, GWS, Bulldogs, Fremantle, Brisbane with all these gun key forward pairings, you’d be foolish to let him go especially how deplorable the midfield had been in terms of pressure and work rate, leaving the defense as sitting ducks.

May never had pace, he was never pacey and athletic like other full backs like Alex Rance, he’s your traditional 1 v 1 gorilla.

Asides from T-Mac, we really have no other body on body full back. I’m hoping with a new game style and more accountability, May can help the climb hopefully back into The top 6, even if he plays 13 games next season and managed a lot.

Viney, Salem, Tracc, May and Lever could all have been struggling with injuries. Until that puzzle is unlocked I think it is difficult to make a call. If many of them have been playing with injury, then next season things might get rosy again.

Every player, especially anyone right on 30 years of age and at this time of the year will be either playing sore or a niggle. Long season and alot of training at this time of year is based around recovery, sharp skills touch and injury prevention

Lets not attempt excuses because I can guarantee every club are carrying sore and injured players.

No player is rosy at this time of the year.

I know it wont happen but I hope thats the last we ever see him in red and blue as thr new coach will quickly realise that hes a suburban standard type player.

My understanding is that that was almost exactly the conversation with TMac at the start of this season.

I’d be surprised if we ever start a game with Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and Viney at the bounce again.

I actually hate that rule. The players don’t know exactly where they are on the ground, and it’s also the loudest part of the stadium. They need to get a little more leeway IMO. Protected zone is protected zone everywhere, but knowing that you’re 9 minutes from goal, not 11 is asking a lot.

Considering he gave away a 50 for the same rule earlier this season he should be well aware of it.

I'm torn on Melksham, on one hand he offers something up forward being a rare player with goal sense. On the other he plays lazy footy a lot of the time, playing from behind trying to work his opponent under the ball or take a speccy which rarely comes off. This is probably due to age/speed but it is still a limitation which is frustrating. If we had another quicker option I wouldn't be offering him another year (or only on the proviso he will be depth and likely play out the season at Casey).
