Absolutely, a lot of the current verbatim and messaging is just puffery by the club due to the trade dance.

The Petracca trade will get done as will Oliver. May is the only one who is a chance to stay, though that isn’t by design.

Absolutely. Puff your chest out and hope for the best. If Trac gets done, it’s because we are happy for him to be out, not because we have no choice. You don’t go to market saying we want him out though.

I can 100% confirm the Walter thing. The suns have been trying to extend him for months and have offered 3 different variations of an offer that he’s been totally unwilling to sign to date

I’m not sure if someone is in his ear or if it’s about game time but the suns are desperate to sign him and haven’t been able to so far

Me, clearly un-jaded about being burnt by Judd.

We want Petracca gone, this isn’t some ‘if we can find a suitable trade, we’ll work with all parties to facilitate something’ good faith negotiation à la ANB last season.

King is cleaning house.

Is this intel or just your opinion @BLWNBA ?

Because like a few others have pointed out it doesn’t match the public stance of King and Guerra

Reading into it it seems like King would prefer Trac to be there next year in a way that he doesn’t for Oliver and May

And why wouldn’t he? We’re a significantly worse side without Trac if we don’t have a high quality player coming back the other way

Personally I hope we play as hard ball as possible, and be willing to bring Trac back in if Suns don’t play ball

Thanks for adding Jed Walter to the rumour mix! I needed a boost.

So, the new and improved final result of the trade frenzy fantasy will now be;

Spargo becomes Mihocek.

McVee (to Dockers) becomes Steele (from Saints) via ontraded picks.

Petracca (to Suns) and Oliver (to GWS) become Humphrey and Walter (both from Gold Coast).

May becomes a late pick, although I don't even know who wants him at the moment.

We probably shape our draft to sneak one pick in the mid-late first round for a player we rate higher than others do, and then lurk at the back end to collect White and Sinnema and some speculative kids. The classic high-low draft pattern that we built our list on.

Go into 2026 with a major shift of leadership figures and a metric walrus of salary cap space to hunt with.

Another Snoop Dog reefer smoker!

The club isn’t going to come out and say that all three will be offloaded, that’s why the messaging has been the same for all three.

They are welcome to look at opportunities at other clubs, otherwise they will be welcomed back at the Club next year.

The moment you look to move players on and start making public statements about not wanting them at the club, you lose all credibility and any semblance of bargaining power.

I’ve posted on another thread about this, but the Club is absolutely wanting to move Petracca, Oliver and May on. The reasoning behind each isn’t necessarily the same, but they are seen as detrimental to the culture that King wants to build. This is supported from the top down, from the Board to the playing group.

It’s categoric that Petracca and Oliver will not be at the club next year and if I’m wrong about this, I’ll gladly admit it on here.

We would be a bottom four side next year whether Petracca is with us or not, and are at a crucial point regarding the rejuvenation of our list. We’re looking to fast-track as much of this as possible prior to the Tassie Devils packages and compromised drafts. Fortunately, King had the foresight to understand were we stand.

What’s the issue with may? I am sure we’d pay some of his salary to get him out the door and clearly there are teams he’d make better

Maybe it’s one that just pops up late in the piece but not a priority?

Pleased to hear someone else has a similar view - I was trying to refrain from being outrightly derogatory, but 'drivel' is indeed the word I use myself to describe much of it! 🤪

Good! You didn’t forget about Dre!

It’s a real problem apparently

Fritsch, Salem, Chandler, Bowey, Sparrow & Turner are all out of contract after the 2026 season

Would any of the other clubs offer 2, 3 or 4+ year deals for any of the aforementioned 6 players?

Turner, Bowey & Chandler the most likely (?)

I wouldn't like to lose any of the 6 but all the clubs are trying to improve their lists

A lot of long term contracts are bandied about these days along with player managers constantly on the lookout for their clients

For instance, a 4 year deal at $700k per annum means $112k goes in the player managers pocket (4%)

I would buy the rumour that Walter is disgruntled.

Ethan Read was selected ahead of him for the finals and he did 4/5ths of stuff all in September.

And now they are the only club talking to JUH.

Not just King. The Trac meeting happened in GF week without King. List management décision, as King acknowledged.

That's not what I heard King say re Petracca in his interview on SEN, he wants Petracca to stay.

Of course he did. He has to. All posturing around getting the best deal we can for Trac.

The minute anyone from the club says that we want him gone, we’ll be lucky to get a future 2nd rounder.

It doesn't have to be. We can take a stand and hold Petracca to his contract and send McVee to the PSD.

Only in the delusional world of football supporters. We will never do that, nor would any club.

If I recall correctly, Saints sent Luke Ball to draft and Port sent someone whose name I forget, think he went to Carlton.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
