He spent his early career in covid times and couldn't break into a midfield that had the likes of DeGoey, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Daicos x 2, Crisp etc. With a fresh chance, he could make it at another club. I really liked him in his draft year and was hopeful we'd draft him. He performed midfield at underage level and his key strength was his disposal skills. He was one you'd want as the kick inside 50.

It hasn't worked out for him at Collingwood, but he's only 23 and could be had for nothing as a delisted free agent. Worst case, he'd add midfield depth. Best case, he becomes the player he promised to be pre-draft - a classy midfielder.

Should chase him IMO.

Funny when you follow the draft so closely and you become emotionally attached to a draftee with hope that they fall through to your pick.

Fin McRae was one for me.. genuinely thought Collingwood got an absolute steal with him at the time.

I wouldnt be against him coming through as a delisted free agent for midfield depth.

It's a no for mine. Sparrow and Rivers are much better midfield depth players than Macrae. But each to their own.

Rivers aim next year should be a transitioning into a full time midfielder. We shouldn't really be speaking of him as midfield depth

McRae would be a much better acquisition in terms of depth ahead of Bailey Laurie and Harry Sharp who both havent shown anything at AFL level.

McRea showed some strong glimpses even in his first year in 2021 where he showed good ball winning ability and composure as an inside and outside mid.

Limited opportunities due to having an elite midfield group that would be a struggle to break into.

Had a significant injury problem this year and only played the 6 VFL games this year because of it. Even when he did play his numbers at VFL level was strong.

I was the same with Matt crouch. I was so flat when we traded the pick for Bernie Vince that became crouch. I thought he was going to be an absolute beast.

Another I really liked was dom sheed!

Last year as @Adam The God knows it was Harvey Langford coz I didn’t shut up about him for months in our private messages, so wrapped we finally got one!

I remember thinking we made a huge mistake picking Christian Salem over Nathan 'The next Luke Shuey' Freeman back in the 2013 draft......

YES! the dangerfield comparisons pre draft i think had everyone a bit flat!

We probably did lost the Tyson/Salem - Pick 2 trade in hindsight though it sounds like we'd have passed on Kelly or Bont and gone for Billings so maybe not.

Perhaps, I think he could be a good defensive and burst mid, but I think he's a better half back.

I really wanted Sam Powell pepper. I was all in on him getting drafted by us 😂

I've been here a long time. This is standard. Last year some people were begging the riddler to come back just to make up stuff.

Calling Chilliboy......

I dug around a bit and collrctrd a pile of Collingwood supporter opinions on Finlay McRae.

Long story short... He's their Bailey Laurie.

Not going to unleash a secret monster there, I think.

Yes, under the guise of having some fun…

Give me Nudge/Chilliboy making up stuff any day of the week. At least it’s rudder less and riddle less.

Mason Cox has been told he’s not wanted. If anyone on this forum suggests him as an option for the Dees, they need to be banned 😏

Wow. The Suns are going to be hard to beat aren't they?

He could probably be our new social media person to replace our crew.

Now they might persuade Mihocek to stay if true.

Imagine we finish the trade period losing Petracca and only getting Derksen and Heath.

Tim Lamb will still have his defenders.

Would be so Melbourne, wouldn’t it.

Well you know that can't happen, because there has to be a trade for Tracc for picks, or picks and players.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
