Here you go Ghosty - a little on her backstory - another Glen Iris Galdiator in the big league

Nice to see max, lever & I think Mcdonald there to

… and Judd, of course!

Soooo good to sing our song! Super proud of our team, they did us proud. The atmosphere was crazy good, and as cold as it is we didn’t feel it… too much to be excited about!

PS fourth Red Bull wearing off… about to hit the wall… hard. 😅

I know Purcell got a lot of it and was very good. To me though she was still only the second best on ground.

We should be used to it but how clean is Tyla Hanks! Also for one of the shortest players on the ground she is stupidly good getting the ball out to a player running past when being tackled.

But easily the play of the day for me was with a couple of minutes to go in the 4th there is a ball up at CHF. A WB player has a hold on Hanks and the ball goes to ground. Tyla takes off, gathers the ball clean as and sprints away from the pack. She has a look around and decides she is on the best position and, oh so casually, puts it over the goal umpires head. I don’t like comparing with the men’s game but you won’t see anything more pure than that over there either.

That was a joy to watch: relentless pressure, slick movement and a team playing for each other.

This should be on the main board.

What a team this has been to watch. So hard at it for so long. Purcell is a machine and she in unfairly compared to Tyla who is a cleaner, more efficient machine…

Love Heath and McNamara for their dare and run.

Ebert looked good I thought down back with Lampard and Chaplin.

And hope Tayla is ok - I have a soft spot for selfless CHF who demand the ball in the right spots and put a knee through that spot. Just love having her there. You’d walk taller with her there.

Powerful Hanks streaks clear to put on the icing

Tyla Hanks streaks clear of the pack to nail this sensational running goal late in the final term

I have a new fave player (sorry Shelley).

Maeve Chaplin, wow. Tough, balanced, explosive. What a game.

Are we doing votes for the game?

Lets

6 Hanks

5 Purcell

4 Chaplin

3 Heath

2 Mahony

1 McNamara

Fantastic game..have watched this team & been a member since inception. The growth is amazing & exciting. Should have opened the season with the Dees..they showcase the improvement of women’s football. It isn’t the men’s game ..it’s a different game but so exciting because we are now seeing the girls who have played since they’re 6 yrs old transitioning into experienced players. Shocking the timing of our game ..just impossible for me to go to MCG & then out to Mission Oval but the AFL is useless on most things unless you’re the big 4 in Victoria..but get behind our girls..you’re in for a great ride

They're a delight. Brightened my mood after a deeply depressing showing from the men.

Absolutely loved Maggie Mahony's game. I reckon we've found one there. The tackling was obviously excellent, but I think she just looks a natural footballer. Brilliant hands in close.

I reckon this is it. Was really impressed with Mahony's pressure.

I wasn't able to watch last nights game live so lived it through the score updates/stats (AFL site) and comments on here, is there a replay available anywhere?

Great start to a hopefully successful year.

@rjay it should be on Kayo?

Thanks, I've tried to avoid Kayo this season.

They annoy me with their fake offers.

Great first up game by the girls. Started a bit slow and they have to adjust to the new holding the ball rule which is a lot stricter.

Chaplin, Purcell and Hanks. But what's with Tayla. I think we should just sit her out of game 1 every year :( Hopefully it was better by the end of the game. though her pack marking was great.

Gee it was crowded around the ball. It would be nice to see some big long handballs out of packs to space to break, but its a different game.

Do Adeliade recruit any other type of player besides big-bodied brutes

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
