The occasional responses seemed to be emotionally led. Wasn’t convinced by his communication or personnel to change game style on the fly.

The board obviously didn’t agree with SG on the solutions – there was a disconnect.

Still believe SG to be a good coach. He will probably be a better coach with his next club.

I expect one or two experienced operators to be entrusted with the recovery. Hopefully, this will take 2–3 years or less.

Whilst it feels a little shocking, I think this is a good thing. Rare that we go early ...we could have easily held on for another year and I firmly believe we would have been the same in 12 months. Langdon's interview today actually probably confirms we made the right decision...players have been comfortable for a long time. Overdue that things are shaken up.

What does feel sad is this is officially the end of the era. May is just about done, Gawn still going but done soon, and I now expect one or both of Trac and Clarry to leave.

I am not all that upset about the sacking as i knew it was coming after the St Kilda debacle. Did the players know Goody had to present to the board days after? Did they vote with their boots?

I am more angry with the playing group tbh. (Not Fritta and Turner ok?)

Paul Keating said the Bob Hawke created political capital and he spent it. In my eyes the MFC gained much 'capital' by being unbeatable for like 2 seasons and winning that flag. Won (sic) for the true believers. That capital has now been spent. Norm Smiths, AAs, Club awards etc mean nothing to me; just momentos of a great career. Go wave them at St Kilda.

I was pleased to read that Green, Angela Williams, Richardson and Chippindall went personally to Goody to break the news and explain the boards decision. Some decency there. And also that Goodys payout may be spread over 2-3 seasons.

Now for a rebuild. If players want to go elsewhere in the twilight of their career, let them go. with due compensation. Clear out all the fringe players and if some are still contracted for next year tell them to start looking elswhere.

Some of you need to get a grip, my goodness. Honestly, if you're feeling like someone has died, I think you might need to take a step back and re-evaluate your relationship with football, that isn't normal.

While I'm sure Simon is extremely disappointed to get sacked, he will be a million dollars richer next year for nada, and will be able to get another job in the industry easily.

Staying away from media - and sick of the trend that if opinions (or even lies as we see in US politics) are published for long enough they seem to eventually be accepted as fact. If anything of note happens, i am happy to find out via demonland.

I feel the management of the club has been dysfunctional and hope this is the circuit breaker that is needed. I do fear that Goody was actually doing an ok job with the playing group in the circumstances, and we may see a bit of a player dummy-spit in the next 3 games as a result.

I think part of the rationale for the decision is that the club has to flush out those senior players who are much more invested in themselves than the club, as sustained success requires some sacrifice from the highest paid players, but that couldnt happen while they had such a co-dependent relationship with Goody.

Given we actually playing ok at the moment (one notable 30 minute exception), the next 3 games will tell us a lot about what the club and jumper mean for each of the players, versus who is more worried about the ex-coach and themselves, and if whether they are more focused on the trade period.

For me it is a myriad of memories and actions that started in 2014 and reached its glorious peak on the 25th/09/2021 at Optus Oval way over there in Perth, when our family had to defy the Law so we could share that amazing experience together.

The sacking off Simon has broken that last link in the chain that joined Peter Jackson, Josh Mahoney, Andrew Demetriou, Paul Roos and Simon Goodwin together to create our climb to relevance.

Now although sad for Simon I am hoping like mad that Smith, Guera and whoever is still standing can mould Goodies list into another champion team But I have my concerns, I probably won’t be here to see it.

After the self-induced anaesthesia of yesterday, now the gathering pace of the reveal and assessment of new coach options has me feeling like a kid on Christmas eve. I'm antsy for morning to come!

Think about it people, you can work your whole life and still not have anywhere near a million in Retirement.. Many don't even have half of that!!! Simon will be OK!

Feel saddened whilst I did say he’s Goody time was up , it’s a scene we as members. And supporters have lived through for many a decade, Goodwin is the fall guy but the instability off field issues played a role and that’s what’s frustrating as why our club just can’t get its [censored] together! They will need to sell a stability of vision and a home base training centre to any candidates!

For Goody thanks you will ever be a Demon Premiership coach and the joy you brought us in 21!

It's interesting we don't feel the same emotion or empathy towards the myriad of delisted players. There's a lot of kids out there shown the door after a couple of years.

I know Goody did something incredible that many failed at. But the club was moving in the wrong direction and we could all see it.

Did I want him sacked? Id have preferred a more graceful departure. But they usually get pushed instead of nudged.

But I do have a twinge of guilt for hoping for it.

As a person he's probably a top bloke. But going forward as the coach of the greatest sporting club in the world......wasn't the best choice.

So thanks MFC for the move and thanks Simon very much for the memories.

10 days ago after that disaster afternoon of the saints game I said I was taking 4 weeks off from the MFC. I felt change was necessary but I was very surprised that it happened this week. I didn't go to the last game and have not watched it on replay. My decision is do I go on Sunday or not as it is my last chance to watch a game at the G this season? Do I need to see first hand how the players handle the first game without SG. I suspect a few will not have their hearts in this last 3 games of the season. In the end it was not the president, the CEO, the cheer squad or the members that cost SD his job it was the players. Am I going to the G on Sunday? No idea at this point.

It's two days now, and I still feel absolute anger at all the people, many of them on this site, who have been relentlessly critical of him.

The talk about money is sickening. If they think that money is what motivates the coach or the players, they have no effing idea. I am really worried that some great players are going to leave the club. I fear that it is going to be a classic case of, be careful what you wish for, with many of the people on this site. And then, will they say, I was wrong? No, they will just be more and more critical, criticising from the sidelines.

Then he was delusional about the midfield and forward line the players skill level by hand and foot and decision making one could see the game change in 22 onwards even he admitted problems with connection with the forward line and what changed how have players been educated on forward craft not one has stood out, this fell on him, now I'm happy that he guided us to a premiership with the gameplan that worked for us. Still, if you you cannot evolve as the game changes then you fall behind now I didn't see the sacking until or maybe at the end of the year if at all but it's done and now we move on.

Thank you Nasher, I was worried for a second that being sad about it was silly.

As mentioned it may well be the correct decision and they can be brutal in this business, but it doesn't mean that for a moment we can't process a feeling of loss.

I encourage everyone who has been hit hard by the news to go by this mantra which is helped me a bit these last few days:

"Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened."

Simon is not like other coaches we've dismissed that have receded into the night. 9 years and the ultimate success sees him as one of us for life and he'll always be welcome at our club.

Makes you think why the club never entertained a succession plan with Yze. That would have been a perfect transition and more 'honourable'.

Yze legend of the club, well liked by the senior players.

My guess is if that was ever brought up to Simon back in 2023, he probably would have not taken it very well.

I'm keen to hear more about this, genuinely.

A player delisted after a couple of years who may have played a handful of games, minimal spotlight from the media, opportunity to pivot their career while still young.

Versus

The face of the club for 9 years who led us to the ultimate prize, under the microscope in the media often with many sleepless nights and had to deal with peanuts like us criticising him every other week.

I understand what you're saying LITD but surely they're different things?
