Buckley's 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons impressed me.

In 2018, they were projected to miss the 8 but ended up 3rd. They played the #2 seed West Coast at Optus Stadium in week 1 and lead for most of the night only to fall short. However, 2 weeks later his crowing achievement as a coach was flogging Richmond in the 2018 prelim whereby nobody gave them a chance.

In 2019, they won 15 games (like 2018) and finished 4th but in week 1 finals they went onto beat the minor premiers in Geelong by 10 points in a game I'm sure they were underdogs.

In 2020, they snuck into 8th and were expected to be no match for West Coast at Optus in the 2020 first elimination final. The reason being is that it was COVID and the Pies had to fly from QLD to WA under COVID pressures and instabilities whilst West Coast were settled in their own state. Buckley/Pies pulled a rabbit out of the hat and won by a point in a boilover.

The point of the above is not to fawn over Collingwood's memorable wins but to highlight that he's proven that he can motivate and then steer his group to win big finals whilst being the under dog.

We need a coach that can take the next step from honourable loss to upset win (aside from the Brisbane win this year).

I have no opinion on whether Buckley would be a good coach or not, but he's done great PR to become favourite by being the only person to express an interest in the job.

P.S - How many two team coaches have ever moved to the club they had their last win against?

Slightly different but Robert Walls got sacked after losing to the Brisbane Bears and was their coach two years later.

According to Green "A world wide search" I hope the club follows a process as originally suggested

Given that it’s an Australian sport, why was it declared “a world wide search”?

I can only imagine that either he copied that term from other “world wide searches”, such as for a corporate CEO role or a police commissioner vacancy, or he wants to include other regions, to capture any ex premiership coaches who may now be living in say…Hawaii, for example ;)

Ah yes Buckley was found riding repeats up the Ventoux like Superuknown and Lo and behold he fits the bill .

So the board could go to Switzerland to scout options on the clubs dime, obviously.

Keep living in denial mate, problems don't disappear just because you want them to. You want the club to be a success stop tolerating garbage and excusing poor behaviour/performance.

Denial? I prefer to think of it as not outsourcing my thinking to the freak shows in the media or the loudest voices on 'Land.

Also, I get that reading comprehension isn’t everyone’s strong suit, but spraying out content that doesn’t even graze the question isn’t a “gotcha” — it’s just proof you didn’t understand it in the first place.

Just like Ross Lyon has mellowed and coaches differently to his previous stints no doubt Buckley will as well. These guys are smart and adapt to whatever is thrown at them just as the players do.

One thing is for sure we have a far better list than the Saints did when Ross took over and our list is still way better.

We need a natural KPF who can find space ala BBB and a plan for the eventual retirement of the irreplaceable Gawny.

Maysy is 33 and not long left. Lever will be 30 next year so a few up his sleeve. TMc is 33 next year. But we have Turner and Howes developing and Petty can go back.

Mids covered with Windsor, Langford and Lindsay coming through. Kolt as a forward/mid.

Kosi a gun mid/Fwd and Prasad as a small quick fwd in the 2026 draft.

So far its all media talk about Buckley. No real substance to it coming from the club, is there??

Be staggered if it's not Buckley. Given we are seemingly canvassing assistants, that will have the okay from the incoming coach. ie the guy who's been jumping up and down with excitement in the media about our coaching position.

You mean a coach that can win a flag like Goody?

Sure, we can talk about Buckley's impressive backs against the wall victories, but it'd be bad faith to not give Goody credit for making a prelim and then winning a flag with one of the most powerful finals series ever.

You were a Goody knocker, so I find this post particularly ironic.

Grass is always greener, hey?

You must be watching and listening to different interviews or shows than I am. He has not exactly been doing a Tom Cruise on Oprah, nor has he been coy and then declared no interest like Simpson and Longmire. I assume he is our preference and I will concede that he has shown more than a mild interest, but I will not be surprised if in the coming weeks he were to come out and say he is not ready to begin coaching again.

Putting aside the financial feasibility that will satisfy him and meet any hurdles within our soft cap, there are definitely many cons that could turn him away. These include perceived board or club instability, the lack of a home base, the unattractiveness of Casey’s location, and any other perceived problems associated with the club.

No doubt there will be pros that appeal to him, but we should not be naive about all the noise, whether genuine or not, that could potentially scare him away.

A lot of these issues, whether perceived or real, might not be a problem for a highly touted assistant who is craving a crack at the big time.

That's what he's shown publicly

One benefit of having bux is he would be looked up to by the likes of trac which may flick a switch and keep him in red and blue. Hooefully mcvee, fritsch, and Jackson are past pie supporters as well

I gave Goodwin his dues last week in another thread where I commended him for his 9 years.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
