Was it Buckley, who not long ago was dealing with financial hardship? Perhaps he will see the $$$ signs with Tassie. But I don't think he would come this far and pull out now....

I think I read somewhere that we will be announcing the new Coach in about a week, round about PF week, so as to not detract from the GF and Brownlow.

Not publicly

Surely it's the other way around - we don't want our news lost in the GF/Brownlow tsunami.

Who runs the game, us or the AFL?

You can bet we have been advised.

Went through a divorce, so yes was impacted. Hardly financially hardship though, he's loaded. He got half of cash from a house sold for nearly $14 million... Add that to all the money he's made throughout his playing career, coaching career, and media gigs, as well as other investments... he's doing more than ok. Money isn't a factor in his decision. He wants to coach because he's driven, loves the sport, and wants a premiership.

OK, I thought I read somewhere he was doing it tough after the divorce and had to sell memorabilia etc. Yes we all know that re Buckley, however he has also been enjoying his cushy media role too.

do you think we'd get better sponsorship offers with Bucks at the helms as opposed to Kelly or one of the others from a personal pov (excluding results)

Most AFL players have boxes and boxes of memorabilia in their garages gathering dust that they eventually auction off. Goodwin was doing the same thing a couple of years ago.

In my opinion Bucks has the brand and charisma to attract sponsors. He speaks well in the public eye and has great connections in the cooperate world considering he is always a guest speaker whever he goes.

I follow him on Instagram and there is no doubt he he has pulling power with the way he conducts himself professionally.

Where we sit currently with memberships and sponsorship, if there was one guy that could really be the face for this footy club and build our brand back up again, it would be Bucks.

Whoever the coach is they will to galvanise the playing group & get the culture right, still think there are divisions & fractures

Not saying I disagree with what you're saying here, but as PJ always said, the core business is footy. And having a good footy team and that delivers on field is how you build sustainable success. Having another Daniher, bless him, that is a brilliant spruiker for the club, but has us yo-yoing in and out of finals without achieving sustained success, isn't what I'd want.

I hope Buckley is the best coach for the club. Full stop.

That’s the problem I see with the process. The Board will lean Buckley because he’s the safest bet and he can likely stabilise and build the Brand…..corporate bullsith for covering our inability to grow the club successfully since winning a Flag. I’d love Buckley doing Richardson’s job or the new overseer role but give me the next best coach amongst the next wave. Do I sound like a broken record? 🙃

The first element is definitely football and on field results. I see a bit of Paul Roos appointment in this Buckley one.

Roos was able to come in and sell hope to our members and sponsors just because he could. Some guys are just natural leaders on and off field and I put Buckley in that category.

To be honest we have gone back to being irrelevant again. Significant drop in memberships, members of the playing group not happy and no official home base as yet.

I feel like a guy like Buckley, with his profile and positive relationship in the media alongside a hopeful appointment of Jimmy Bartel can really galvanise this footy club again and actually bring us back to being respected in the competition.

If Buckley does indeed decide to take the Tassie gig, he'll forever be bashed by the likes of Cornes and other media personalities for giving up a real shot of success as he coaches a bunch of kids to 3-5 years of bottom two finishes before eventually being moved on just like every other foundation coach. It'll be an absolute disaster for him.

This is close to the reality.

Little doubt that Tassie will follow the GWS model as against the Sun's model. Draft in and then trade the "good" but not best draftees for more picks.

Meantime add in some senior journeymen. If they were starting this year Billing would be a good example

I think it was more the case that she wanted half of everything which included any memorabilia. Putting a price on it was hard so he auctioned it off. Bought back the stuff he wanted to keep/pass onto his kids and was then able to split the results.

I see Buckley as nearly a win win situation...

We win if he coaches us to a flag, We win if we get to sack his filthy filthness

I sympathise with Buckley. I got a divorce once. Killed me financially. Had to liquidate my St. James Glen Iris Cricket Club memorabilia and all. She got 50%. So down to my last $7.85M.

[Oh, and I had to rollover my Rangy lease for an additional 12-months.]

My strong preference is still Buckley but I can’t help but be intrigued by James Kelly. I’ve got a feeling he’s going to be a very good coach when he does get a gig with us or someone else

It's a bit of a quirk that so few senior coaches have come out of Geelong's assistants. A bunch of former Clarkson and Hardwick protegees but no one seems to get the guys who learned the craft under Scott.

Think Hinkley is the only one but he was only at Geelong during the Thompson years.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
