If he doesn't do MFC he could be forced to move to Tasmania.

Geez we're sensitive bunch on here lol.

Caro drops a story that people would rather not hear and she gets called all things under the sun.

Personally I found nothing wrong with what she said at all. I absolutely have no doubt that there would be some close to Bucks who would have advised him not to take the Melbourne job.. so what?

You will get those opinions from friends and close colleagues with any big decision that has resulted in a club that has been a mess on and off field for the best part of 2 years.

If its not Buckley, then its Brendan Lade for me.

I think she’s a horrible journalist and have never respected her, her stories or what she’s had to say. This hasn’t changed because of her attempting to sway Bucks.

I do get more annoyed when regardless of my opinion, she has a platform and people listen and she’s actively attempting to sway for whatever purpose that may be, no one will know her true reasons.

She should be giving facts and not attempt to stop people from paths, because at that point you’re no longer a journalist.

People should be able to make their own decisions without the media adding in, because they have a lot of weight.

You’re bang on though, his friends/family might be saying don’t do it, but at least it’s not to the public and doesn’t add extra weight and pressure. We all know the power the media hold, they can change views and public opinion so easily.

Fingers crossed he listens and doesn’t take it on.

Sure, if he had his choice of clubs Buckley might not choose the dees. But he doesn't.

And there is unlikely to be a better option in the near term - obviously the pies are out, the hawks and the crows are on the rise, the lions have Daly in the wings, Scott doesn't look like he is going anywhere at the cats.

The blues and perhaps the dogs and freo might have a vacancy next year, but none are anymore attractive than the dees - and besides next year he might have to compete for any vacancy with Longmire, Simpson and perhaps even goody.

And I just can't see Buckley wanting to coach a team in full rebuild mode, let alone one that is two full seasons from playing its first game and realistically won't win a flag for at least 7 or 8 seasons after they enter the competition (meaning, no flag until at least 2035, a decade from now).

Bucks' best chance of success at Tasmania is if he inherits an 'almost' team like Gold Coast with lots of unrealised potential like Hardwicke did. So, yeah, he'll probably be in his 60s by then. Even if that appealed in having that chance in ,say, 2033 a potential 12 years not coaching ( and potentially a few current coaches becoming legends in the meantime now comparing so much more favourably to a now outoftheloop Buckley.)

It's still unlikely. But his best chance of success with Tasmania would be by having a successful stint with Melbourne, as one example, and then moving across next decade.

Caro has also been shut down on this before but you’ve got a team that actually exists and plays at the MCG Every other week and is a real chance of playing ans winning finals in the near future vs an idea. A hypothetical team that might not ever exist and even if they do they’re minimum 5 years of getting belted every week off even being a chance to make much less win finals

Skipping our job for a complete ground zero build that may or may not start in 2028 in Tassie is crazy.

But Carlton, Essendon and perhaps the Bulldogs could all come open next year.

It wouldn’t shock me if Bucks is eyeing off a better job

Dogs, fair. But the Melbourne prospects are significantly better than Carlton or Essendon

Caro would probably claim that she's just thinking the unthinkable.

However, history shows that such an event involves an itheberg.

Isn't the Tassie team dependent on a stadium that is still in doubt?

100%. I posted a while ago that it won’t go ahead and still believe it won’t (the Tassie team that is). It would be silly of Buckley (if offered the Demons coaching job) to pass on it just because he may be the preferred coach of a team that may/may not enter the competition.

Caro is a mouthpiece for Brendon Gale and the Tasmania Devils.

Wilson is pushing the Tasmania agenda as a favour to her Richmond buddy.

She has been doing so for the last few weeks. Look at all the articles and "stories" she's been running to paint a poor picture of the Dees both in the paper and on TV.

i'd advise him not to take the MFC gig.

i'd advise any coach out there not to take it.

It's a poisoned chalice.

The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true

You'd think that Scott will get at least another 2 years at Essendon. They had a horror run with injuries and have a heap of good kids coming through - including two high first-rounders this year.

Hard to see anyone except Carlton coming up next year, but as we've just seen, you never know. 2027 could be another story, but Buckley isn't getting any younger and the longer he leaves it the more likely that other second-timers come into contention. Hinkley, Longmire, Goodwin, Simpson ...

Essendon's 20+ years in the wilderness seem to suggest no but if they actually bottom right out yet again with another poor season next year and have let guys leave and had a super strong draft they might actually set a new coach up with a talented young list to actually build the right way for once.

Carlton are in a similar position to us but they've hired a serious operator as CEO, who's then gone and got one of the best Head of Footballs around in Chris Davies from Port. Linked to some quality assistant coaches too. I get the feeling they're thinking long and hard about making the tough call on Curnow and retooling their list. Voss might be a victim of that retooling but I wouldn't at all be surprised if they're looking pretty decent under a new coach in 2027.

She would have to have rocks in her scone if she really thinks Tassie is a realistic chance of scooping Bucks.

They're not even a functioning club yet, what is he supposed to do for 2.5 years before a ball is kicked in anger Caro?

He hasn't coached since halfway through 2021 (4.5 years) do you really think he is going to wait another 2.5 yrs to coach another game of AFL footy?

Caro you are a insufferable piece of 💩

Stick to reporting on your Richmond buddies.👎

We really don't know whether right now if those teams are better prospects. Besides they are so many ways we could possibly improve next year (even without choosing Buckley) and then surpass your mentioned teams. The other thing is those other teams may not end up losing their coach(es) for a few years and by then Longmire, Simpson ( and maybe Goodwin, Beveridge, Hinkley and an assistant coach whose stocks have risen even further since then) all push ahead of Buckley for best next coach. A bird in the hand .....

This year was a write off for Essendon but if they have a very low win total next year I don't suspect he'll have bought any goodwill for continuing in the job. Not many coaches get 4 years of no progress.

There's certainly a good argument to go as hard as possible for the job that's open now, but it's not like Bucks needs the job for the money or to say he's been a senior coach. The chance of a flag is really what he needs and I think he has to go somewhere that at least provides a chance for that with a timeframe that suits his plan.

This is exactly the opinion that for me is why I read and listen to responses given on this platform.

She is not Gods gift to anyone let alone the public.

Our opinions on here will not be trivialised by her or anyone else.

I think most are overthinking all this. Caro is a journalist. Journalist job = get clicks. She hasn't just walked out of the secret AFL Powerbrokers room on the secret level at Crown Towers with orders to publicly convince Buckley to go to Tassie.

Still in Venice and I have to say, the joint has lots of water, secret passages, laneways, spooky alleys, dodgy types and many many women looking in admiration at the Aussie Icon. If anyone asks me my name I say Solemnly Picket Fence. Signed quite a few hankies, and left a few heart flutters in my wake. Ah um Mrs.Fence keeping an eagle eye on things so nothing untoward! Next stop Florence, then Rome then... Home, yeah and have to say after 6 weeks happy to be going home. Best to all, And for me its Buckley's or Nunn and or Lade, or Skipworth.

NOW WHATS THIS ABOUT JEFFO???

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
