Just where we are I am not sure. The week before against the dogs we tried, we ran, linked up, transitioned the ball from D50 to I50, delivering the ball into our forward line in different ways that allowed us to rack up a competitive score against a better, inform side.

I suspect a fire sale of senior players will not gain us much in return and there may not be many suitors.

Our performances are suffering from having experienced players struggling who should be in their prime in their late 20’s. Tracc, Oliver, Langdon are all playing well below their best. Along with Viney their butchering of the ball, lack of poise in traffic is just baffling. Can a new coach change this around? Viney as a defensive forward, Oliver back to handball first, kick second, Langdon back to the wing and new faces (Langford, Windsor, Rivers )for the majority of CBAs. Tracc an extra year from his traumatic injury to regain his ability to operate in traffic. Most importantly in my mind if the old firm starts the get ball and blindly bang it long stuff we are so familiar with, the new coach has to act and drop the offenders.

In my view, our biggest weakness is that we don't have any players (apart from Gawn) who can impose themselves on the game

When crunch time arrives, we go missing ... and that trend started midway through 2024

To win games you need impact players and lots of them

Even though the make-up of the current team isn't all that different to the 2021 Premiership team, the differences are quite stark

For starters, the game has moved on sharply and our players either can't adapt or won't adapt

And then there's the hunger for success which just isn't there

It will take more than a simple reset. We need a whole lot of new players if we're to seriously challenge again

2 off seasons might do the trick in terms of being a finals contender as the list isn't bereft of talent like we were when Roos took the helm

But to get what we want, we're going to have to give up a bit (in terms of ultimately strengthening the list)

And if a few players end up requesting trades or if we facilitate a few players into moving, then we'll get the chance to revamp the list with draft picks (or players) coming back our way

In a nutshell, the current list will be lucky to even compete for a finals spot next year (or beyond)

Moving Goodwin on is only the first move (if we're being serious)

It's highly unlikely the club can afford to pay out both Goodie and Richardson in one year (Richardson also has a year left on his contract). They wouldn't have enough over to pay their replacements, although I'm sure some back-ending of contracts would occur.

Murray Davis is someone I hope applies just as someone to potentially consider if Danny Daly isn't interested. Listening to Fagan on SEN and he said from a pre-season game against Adelaide he could see similarities to how Adelaide were playing to Brisbane and even heard them use same lingo amongst the players. I guess it shows the immediate impact he's had and now Adelaide is sitting first.

If Buckley doesn’t have the awareness or insight to recognise where the club truly stands, both on and off the field, and we feel compelled to shield him from that reality just so he isn’t scared off, then maybe he’s not the right candidate for the job. The same applies to anyone else. Our challenges are out in the open for all to see. Any prospective coach should understand exactly where we are, come prepared with a plan to fix the on-field issues, and be capable of navigating the off-field ones as well.

Matthews said we are unstable. Changing the coach doesn't fix all the problems. Any coach taking over needs to be able to bring in all of his own people. From assistant coaches to fitness guy. Essentially taking full control of the FD.

Definitely. Is very overated. That's not to say the list is devoid of ability and talent it's just where they sit in the life cycle of footy that i sense many are getting it wrong.

We need to be a bit more Aldi, a lot less NQR and a visit to a Farmer's market or two as well as a decent wholesaler wouldn't go amiss.

Yes. The new coach might make us better and we could play finals but we won't be a serious contender with our current list. We're better off overhauling the list and going backwards for a while until we have a real chance of a premiership. Look how stacked Adelaide and Gold Coast are. That's who we'll be competing with in the next few years.

How much further backwards can we go: consecutive bottom 5 finishes !!!

maybe just my MFCSS, but if we bring in Danny Daly, I think we are absolutely stuffed. I have no doubt he is a very accomplished assistant. We, as a club, are seriously at the crossroads. We have an ageing membership base. We have attracted no new fans in decades. We have sacked a premiership coach. Our list is in shambles. If we think an untried assistant can come in, make his mark, enthuse the fan base, then we may as well pack it up. A bloke like that will take years to impact..maybe we have been sucked in by the McCrae example...but his credentials are very different..maybe it's the Fagan example...again, I'd argue very differemt. This club needs to be put back on the map. Danny Daly does not offer that...It could be Fagan. it could be a Neeld...are we taking that risk?

whoever is coming in needs to galvanise the group, develop the culture, and go from there

it's a big ask given how consistently awful the majority of the last 60 years have been

The nuffs that are against Buckley cause he didn't deliver them a flag are unbearable.

I like the outside the box thinking with Daly.

There's no rule saying you have to stay inside a certain box, I'd be disappointed if they weren't thinking this way.
