We could be in the market for Fly Macrae soon?

He sat N Daicos on the bench for the first 10 minutes of the game whilst hawthorn walked in 2 goals.

He may be overestimating his own tactical genius. Which warms my heart.

carry on!

As they say in the classics: you need to be in it to win it! Longmire is thereabouts most years

Sadly he won’t be able to bring with him the Sydney Swans academy (which yielded Blakey, Gulden, Braden Campbell, Heeney, Callum Mills etc in his era for chips) nor a 5 goal home advantage every week.

Fascinating place London, also visted the Murder site of Catherine Mary Eddowes and left a bunch of flowers as well. Tragic stuff in the 1880s London. Anyway..... carry on

Yep they whinged & wined about it. I can still here Adam Simpson saying they didn't cope with it.

But some nth fans want him back at the club to coach interestingly

Can have him 😉

Him too. The way the gws coach treated the captain was disgusting. Same doco? I was very impressed with Adelaide's coach.

I love it when a poster uses the term: [insert club name] coach. Just brilliant work. Has set up my Friday beautifully. Thanks @biggestred.

Keep him far far far away. Smug, sly, c0cky and calculated. Looks like it’s wearing thin too.

Have been , as no doubt are most of us , having a bit of a think about this .

I can only sense that the club will go forcan experienced operator, but that may NOT rule out a very capable senior assistant. Only time will unveil.

I would only want someone with the enthusiasm and energy to take the reigns. They could be there for a few years so I'm not looking for a temporary solution.

I note, well it's my gut feeling ( could just be the farts 🤷‍♂️ ) that not everyone mentioned is there by their own impetus. Horse is high on lists but is HE really that interested or keen to uproot. I wonder. I've moved away from Simpson. I just don't think he is THAT fit for us. He's capable but is he our best option ? Then there's Bucks. My first gut reaction was very nearly a gut reaction... lol But in thinking I've considered the qualities required.

You need to thoroughly understand Football. He does. A very good head for it. He knows where this game is. Also where it might head. Tactically I think hes shown nouse. Can he coach ? I'd have to deduce he can. His time at Collingwood. I think he was on a bit of a hiding to nothing ...and white ants were apparent. He seems keen. Thats good in my book . I don't want someone there who you had to drag there.

Something that is a trademark of Bucks in footy. He took games on !! Both as a player, and i thought a very very good player, a match turner-winner kind of player and in his coaching. He would try to win games. Im not a fan of trying to protect a win ( too early ) .

Horse likes to move magnets. Im not a fan of Simpson footy.

I hope we are not too blinkered in our search.

I want someone to relight the fire in the players.

Any which way 26 will be , imho , a sorting come discovery year. Need to become super relevant in 27.

Who ever comes needs to wrangle together assistants who can impart skills and craft.

Im a little buoyed, excited and at the same time nervous . Simon certainly didn't get everything wrong. Far from it. But we'd stalled... and like a plane that's not good. If someone can fire up those jets and wrestle control back so we can lift well, dare I say the sky's the limit.

Im warming to Bucks , but I'm not sold. Horse is the Horse of course , of course.. and not one talks like the Horse of course.... Just not feeling it for Simpson. Might be a better fit elsewhere.

So who else ??

Interesting fortnight ahead.

Meanwhile.... good luck Troy 👍

Mr Ed would be worth it, considering our likely move to Caulfield in the future. But I'd like Buckley with some provisos.

Yes definitely a focus on skills and crafting a game plan Is what we need from a refreshed coaching panel.

Is Buckley too arrogant or aloof? I'm not sure. Goody was truly loved by the players, we don't want to go to the other extreme and get another Neeld.

Somewhere in between perhaps.

Thanks to the poster that collated the win loss records of experienced coaches.

Horse way out in front.

Yes Sydney had advantages but have a listen to Paul Roos interview on ABC sport a couple of days back.

He really really rates our squad and it gave me a lot of hope hearing him talk about our list

My pies tragic friends say Buckley wasted a decade for them. As McCrae has proven.

Longmire won't leave Sydney and his embedded role at the swans.

Thus I have no idea on the rest. Just who I don't want. But keep posting everyone it's great reading.

But 3 years of a dysfunctional forward system was enough for me to know simon was timed out ( whom I love and will be grateful to) and Board made correct call now.

Danny Daly might be the Steven Bradbury of the coaching search.

Let’s be real, if nick daicos walked into our club this off season we’d be playing finals in 2026 as well. Yes fly has re energised the pies but I have no doubt they’d have spiked under bucks as well when you have an 18 year old walk in and play at near Brownlow level

Buckley came into the job too early and stuffed things up but rebuilt the list and got better as a coach in the second half of his tenure.

I think he did too. But the demise was well set in by then and he paid.

You'd expect a much wiser, savier Buckley 2nd time around. No one is expecting instant success. A more methodical attack up the ladder perhaps.

Interestingly over in Magpie Land, the wheels have fallen off the Fly Love in

A quote from Nicks Bulletin board on their "is Mcrae the best coach since Jock Mchale" thread

"Tonight you got your answer. When the going is tough the last thing you need is a friendly new age coach. The coaches drank their own bathwater after the last bye."

The last thing we need is another 'matey' type coach. We need a performance culture not a love in

Longmire does not sound like he wants to coach next year. My money is on Carlton knowing this and wanting him and are willing to wait hence why they are keeping Voss. Why pay him out when you know you can get your man at the end of next year. I have no inside info. Just a hunch.

Funny, but I was thinking this yesterday.

Have we totally ignored the possibility that a current coach may be up for grabs? Not just McCrae, but a few others as well?

There is probably only 3 worth considering.

Not at all, the mental fortitude to keep his team up in contention most years is far harder than a one-off game

I tend to agree but these performances on the biggest stage sadly became somewhat of a trend under his watch, it's a bit of an elephant in the room.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.
