He'll be ok. A bit like Jordan Lewis was. A solid first year, middling second and probably a mix of Casey and Melbourne games in his third. What he does offer is forward nous. Other than Melksham, that is something we've not had in many a long year.

Today's winner.....

I would expect this will be announced today.

If the trigger for a third year is that he has to flatten Maynard in a football act sometime during his first two years then I'm onboard.

Any word out of pies B&F last night?

Apparently Mihocek’s departure was written on the big screen at the event but went largely unnoticed due to the crowds’ inability to read.

Brilliant 😂

I heard Fly had to sound it phonetically for them.

Also largely missed by the crowd as they struggled to hear anything over the constant slurping of their dentally-approved 6 course soup degustation

I have a different 'take' on Lewis. I don't think he played particularly well. However the fact that a high profile player (albeit well past his best) wanted to come to MFC sent a message that perhaps we were (or could be) a destination club. Perhaps it assisted in encouraging others to come to the club? (I'm thinking Lever, May, Langdon, Brown.)

Apparently the big Cheque has been sited wearing a Melbourne guernsey for a photo shoot this morning

Does Petty go back ? Only if May departs ??

But the backs have TMCD Adams Turner Lever already

I am guessing King will push Petty back, but imo he is too slow to play in defence and is better as a forward. He finished the season well.

My pies tragic friend who absolutely warned about Buckley- "don't take him", is a massive fan of Mihocek and says he's thrived even though playing a lonely hand as a sole big forward. Says he'd be a great get for us.

Lewis was the first green shoots of credibility. Big impact in that regard. And still kept up sniping approach for us. Excellent footy brain must have been a bonus in the locker room too.

Petty will go back. TMac is already on record stating his role is to help develop our young talls in the VFL which I'd say is the reason why he was dropped from our side for Lever this year despite being probably our most in form key backewrly in the season.

Mihocek is a good pickup in that he will work well with Melksham and JVR while.also allowing Petty to play back. Also I think playing Petty forward for the past couple of seasons is good in that it provides us the flexibility to swing him forward depending on the situation.

Will Checkers wipe out our SparGod compo pick?

You'd think so. That might be why the AFL didn't announce the Spargo compensation yesterday.

Spargo for Mihocek is a nice swap.

Has requested a trade, presume there will be a token 4th rounder to not dilute the compo

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
