Really don’t understand why people are against bringing in Mihocek

He’s been playing through a foot injury the last third of the season

If Pies weren’t in finals he likely wouldn’t have been playing at all

Get that right over preseason and at minimum he’ll be a serviceable tall forward for us next year

And if that’s a low bar - it’s because we haven’t had anything close to a serviceable tall forward since Ben Brown

We’re crying out for someone to lead and provide structure to our forward line, while also helping the development of JVR, Jefferson etc

He’ll cost us nothing and will give us cover for a few years

Posters have been moaning about the fact we haven’t brought in a forward over the last few years (not through lack of trying ), now we’re linked with a forward and most of DL be like why this bloke. Someone even brought Jacob Koschitzke up as an option, eesh.

Club can’t win.

Well a 33 year old, pretty banged up, 192 cm forward is not my first option as a tall forward.

Another poster suggested McVee to the Eagles for Jobe Shanahan, in some sort of deal. Maybe we throw in Laurie, who would get a game in the Eagles midfield at the moment.

I would do that deal.

Played roughly 20 games a year since 2018, that’s not banged up to me. People were bagging the club for not going after Tex and Tom Lynch and the latter is more banged up than anyone.

And you have a lot faith in Laurie, it’s admirable.

playing with a torn tendonin his toe ( I believe)

Which is not only painful, but if bad enough requires surgery, don't rule out news he has gone in for sugery! Having said that I think he would be a very good recruit!

A player like Mihocek needs respect by opponents defence. This provides opportunities for developing forwards.

I’m not sure he really will, certainly no key backs will be sweating the Mihocek match up, but what he does do is:

  1. Run hard and to the right spots, giving the other tall/s space to work

  2. Busts his tail defensively and is a great tackler

I think as a mentor/competition for JVR and Jeffo there’s merit to it. Doesn’t solve our need for a real main guy to. Or possibly our need for the kind of quality role playing tall - Shannon Neale at Geelong is amazing to watch - so little disposals and talent but makes a big impact.

That makes at least two of us Mr. Leg.

Three.

Mihocek acquisition is more about providing support and education to JVR and perhaps Jeffo. JVR will be much better with another decent tall in the team and means he doesnt get too banged up early in his career

This is exactly the point.

West Coast would laugh at you. They know what they have with Jobe and he recently re-signed a contract extension.

Viewed as mentorship, leadership etc, and an improvement on what we have now, he’d be a good pick up.

But that sort of pick up is not a 3-year large contract sort of thing. It’s 2 years and a reasonable wage. If that’s enough to get him out of Collingwood, then away we go.

So I cannot say the rest of the world is in a terrible state but Collingwood losing makes it good !

A player who dominates VFL games in the midfield, is the type of player teams with poor midfields would look at. Laurie is always in the best players for Casey.

Are you saying Laurie is a dud no club would consider? I disagree.

Ok but it is just a suggestion.

I note Mitchell wining and dining better contracted players than Shanahan.

Maybe if chased by a Victorian club he gets a bit homesick.

I reckon Bill will find a bit of interest. He's far more Meat and 3 veg than anything Cordon Bleu.. but he's quite serviceable. Never really been given a block of games to incubate at the higher level, other clubs with needs might consider him.

But as to Brody.. if you think Bill is a suitable choice for the right team I dont quite see how Mihocek ( Pies leading goal kicker btw .... they got to the prelims.. well they did ) can't be serviceable to us.

Add 30 goals to our year and it would look a bit more appealing ???

He re-signed less than a month ago and extended til the end of 2028. Mitchell is wining and dining players who are wanting to leave not those who have just re-signed. Shanahan looks like a key you can build a team around in the future. I suggest that is why the Eagles have locked him in asap. That for a good quality half back and a small mid we refuse to play in season is not going to get you close even if he was interested.

This trade at the end of 2023 would have been the perfect time but alas

I was adopting another poster’s suggestion and accept what you say, that it is not a deal that will happen.

To put it more succinctly, I would like us to target better players than the ones we have traded for recently.

To be fair this off season we have been mentioned in connection to some better players, though at this stage we are looking at Derksen, Heath, Mihocek and hopefully Flanders.

McRae knows his list has zero depth.

No other reason to play Howe, Mihocek or Pendelbury

Massive risk that backfired beautifully

I think McStay and Hosken-Elliott in place of Mihocek and Pendlebury would have been a good move.

Daniher = free agent

Allen = Free agent

Hipwood = Lions academy.

Logan Morris was find though, yes.

They’re hardly a factory for young KPFs.

Laurie isn’t an afl athlete, doesn’t dominate contested ball to be an in and under player and doesn’t have the skills to make up for it on the outside. He’s positionless at AFL level. The Eagle are also going all in on speed and pressure, trying to build a Richmond style team, Laurie has no place there.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.
