Akash Deep. Has to be one of the all time great sporting names. Lingers like a velvet secret in the dark, equal parts silk and danger. Not just a name, but an invitation… to fall, willingly, into something warm, slow-burning, and entirely undoing.

What are you and your romantic erudition doing on a footy site!

(Nice, btw 😊)

This oldster will take that from you, QD, given your Deep poetic post.

But it's a teeth-grinder from anyone else...

Its been 1,041 days since we completely pantsed the Dogs on Sept. 25, '21. Look where Footscray are at compared to us now.

I think you may have missed a year, it's 1,408 as at today. Getting a talent like Darcy in our forward line would have helped our fortunes this year.

Not a Beveridge fan but he's had them in the finals most years.

Avoidance mode - should b working on my thesis.

got handed jamara; rules changed for everyone else for a couple of years, badly hurting mfc and the aints

got handed darcy; rules to be changed in 5...4...3...

when this afl administration scraps the father-son rule for first round picks it'll be a serious nail in the coffin for any form of romanticism in the game; we'll still have compromised fixtures to help broadcasters and unprofessional maggots making bizarre decisions and suffering no consequences tho

After watching bits of the Pies game last night, I made a sigh of relief that we didn't sell the farm for Houston. He must be close to getting dropped, his form is so bad. So glad we got Langford and Lindsay instead

Did you see the attempt kick to Zorko? He mustn’t have seen Hill.

Yeah, it looked to me like he was trying to hide behind 3 players in a row between them – as well as a random distracting runner heading towards the boundary.

Not sure why they were allowed on the field at that time? Clever by Hill, and very annoying.

Actually seems to happen quite a lot against the filth. Probably because they put a lot of numbers towards the “get out” kick down the line.

I hope we don't see the father son rule removed. I know the Pies and Lions have been gifted talented players recently but I think the points system is the problem and not the father son rule. It's too easy to get a billion 8th round picks to add up to pick 1, no-one is making that deal. And to get a discount on top of that is just insulting. The academy picks should be looked at too.

But just like the biased fixture, rules won't be changed if it's going to effect their cash cows.

The Saints missed some capable players but they struck the jackpot: Nasiah was part of Port's NGA!

I’m praying like all hell NWM leaves that rabble. Would be hilarious to watch them crumble. Says alot about a club when they over celebrated a meaningless win against a fellow cellar dweller.

I get that it was nauseating to see the St Kilda supporters over celebrating the win, but we also would’ve celebrated like lunatics if we came from 46 points down.

It was a monumental achievement and we just happened to be on the wrong side of it.

That was a high pressure, high standard game

Lions can win it all if they keep up that sort of form

Pies had no answers

Wouldn't it be great if we can beat them in the final round and knock them out of the top 4!!

They are no guarantee to beat the Hawks or Crows

Well played Lions!

Pies can still finish 9th with the right results ❤️😀

Cmon that’s just sour grape, they’re no more a rabble than our mob, they’re allowed to celebrate a come from behind win for Tha ages

Pies had a similar dip in form in 2023 at this time. It was against Essendon in the last round that got them their mojo back. The last thing I'd want in this world is for them to smash us and then carry that form into finals.

Beating them in round 24 to make them drop to potentially 5th would almost make up for round 23 2017.

I think the opposite. I think it hurts the game when plays like NWM leave. St Kilda haven’t had a genuine star player that they could build a team around since Nick Riewoldt. I’d definitely prefer he stayed than give an Adelaide club a free kick like they’ve had with JHF, Rankine etc.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
